31. crazy is as crazy does
Jewish Whale ,   Haifa, Israel   (02.29.12)
Anyone who actually thinks that walking around in black garb akin to 18th century christian clergy is somehow more Jewish than their modern fellow Jews is insane. As such, insane people act insane- the religious world needs leadership. These haredim are not living by the Torah, but as animals.
32. Dear Professor Z . Seculars don't have Rebbes,we frummies do
PETER SM ,   AUSTRALIA   (03.01.12)
this is a terrible Chillul H'. Iam sure you know what the good book says about Chillul H'
33. Will the police arrest these criminals already?!
Roman ,   Lod, Israel   (02.29.12)
Arrest them. Prosecute them properly. Prove their crimes. And jail them away from society. And people - it's Haredim these people are attacking, as a *rule*. Did you notice that? Did you also notice that they did the same thing to a prominent Judaica and book store in Jerusalem, terrorizing it for months? Or the cases before that? Or the cases before *that*? Did you also notice how the police did little to nothing, and the people who opposed it gave up? Wake up already! Haredim have no private police! These "Modesty Guard" are criminals, dangerous criminals, they have their own shut-in group and they do as they please - they're a gang like any other, just with a religious marker. People either avoid them or are in fear of them, mainly because they're used to the norm of it - that no one will actually go and arrest these people, and that in this country when someone defends himself, he gets arrested and charged for it, while the criminal gets away. My prayers and best wishes to the victim - Refuah Shlemah. And I hope and pray that this won't happen again.
34. That's their real face ,...
split ,   US   (03.01.12)
Lynching working woman hanging posters, beating up a woman on the front of public bus because she refused to move to the rear, burning mosques, tagging churches, spitting on priests and pilgrims, burning bibles, now lynching a 70year-old grandmother ,... Anyone wonder why no one likes or misses them in Europe and some are thankful that they're gone ? ,...
35. Split Ignorance and spite The vast majority
PETER SM ,   AUSTRALIA   (03.01.12)
of ultra orthodox just want to lve in peace within their communitie, live the lifestyle, pray, study & conform. They have little or no interest in the outside world.
36. National Revolt
Baruch Yonman ,   Paris, France   (03.01.12)
there should be a national revolt against these hooligans. Haredim should be confined to their quarters, yes A GUETTO!!! and finish with them
37. Keep the harideem out of our neighborhood
Aviva ,   Ramat Aviv   (03.01.12)
Recently the haridem have been trying to get a foothold in our neighborhood. And people wonder why we dont want these people any where near us !
38. 33: No.
Paqid Yirmeyahu ,   Ra'anana, Israel   (03.01.12)
Yad la-Akhim, which is responsible for many of these incidents, posted pashqivilim ("wanted" style posters) against me at the end of last year, which sets the stage for this kind of attack. Like the woman attacked in this incident, I teach non-Jews to abandon idolatry and come to the Light of Torah. I filed a police report and the police officially reported no basis for any action on their part. Apparently, there is no such thing here as a "hate crime." The police are far more afraid that these "zealots" (whom they and the Rabbinate and rabbis secretly admire and with whom the Rabbinate cooperates--and I can provide proof), will call the police "Nazis." The hate crimes involved here are no different from the lynchings of blacks in the old American South; and if it's not stopped, lynchings will expand in the same way to include murders and "honor killings." Torah forbids standing idly by the blood of one's brother. They came for him and I did nothing, then...
39. Hilter Would Be Proud of Them
yaakov ,   TA   (03.01.12)
These so-called Jews have perverted the real meaning of Judaism and should be deported as enemies of the State. Nothing csn justify beating a 70 year old woman ...Hilter must be laughing in his grave---his work is being continued by alleged Jews.
40. ORA ! They are holy hooligans protected by
J.K. ,   Brooklyn USA   (03.01.12)
the holy coalition.
41. # 28 violence and violence
J.K. ,   Brooklyn USA   (03.01.12)
Profesor ! when an secular commits an act of violence against his wife, children, neighbors,he is doing it because he is a barbarian, but a haredi is doing it as a mission of God.
42. #34 - what a racist dick you are!
William ,   Israel   (03.01.12)
First, the religious community didn't behave this way in Europe. For some reason they feel protected enough in the Jewish State to behave this poorly - and I agree it must stop. Second, not all Jews behave this way, in Europe or elsewhere. Finally, per your logic, Europe detests those in the Jewish religious community who beat up on non-conforming religious Jews, but are all welcoming to a certain population which glorifies subjugation under Islam and blows up subway stations.
43. #4: I am with you on this one
Israeli 2   (03.01.12)
44. I am disgusted! This is NOT Judaism!
Proud Jew   (03.01.12)
You shame yourselves and ALL Jews! You belong in jail! I am a PROUD Jew and I would SPIT on on you animals for doing what you did to this poor woman OR any person. Hashem will deal with you in time, but for now I pray that you are caught and jailed for many many years! There NOTHING kosher about you or your behavior!!!!
45. modesty patrol
marge ,   New York, USA   (03.01.12)
We are not living in the ghetto anymore, we are civilised people of the 20th century. Shame on the world for letting this happen.
46. Peter SM, #32
Professor Z ,   Jerusalem   (03.01.12)
Did I imply anything to the contrary?
47. 33 , it are the same you always defend
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (03.01.12)
You defend their rights , and now you're against them . What an hypocrite you are .
48. #3 - they don't care about civil law
dorothy friend ,   tel aviv   (03.01.12)
It doesn't exist for them.
49. #45
dorothy friend ,   tel aviv   (03.01.12)
Why in the world should the world intervene? The shame is only on the people that let these criminals get so much power, and often be above the law.
50. Lady Tonge was right
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (03.01.12)
We ARE reaping what we sow.
51. To clarify
Paqid Yirmeyahu ,   Ra'anana, Israel   (03.01.12)
There are an increasing number of Orthodox rabbis attempting to stand up against this widespread toeivah perpetrated by Ultra-Orthodox rabbis in collaboration with the Rabbinate and Yad l-akhim. Not all Orthodox rabbis are guilty; nor are all Orthodox rabbis--including the Rabbinate--innocent.
52. Modesty Patrol Lynched Me
Lewis Peters ,   Jerusalem Israel   (03.01.12)
I am not charedi and have a strong dislike for their extremist but I believe that you should acknowledge your very shoddy reporting. The Yediot reporter fell hook, line and sinker for her story. The truth is that she has been involved in very nefarious behavior relating to children in Nachlaot. This was the motivation for her being roughed up, not her bogus involvement in regarding converts. Next time, have your reporter do proper investigation and not malign an entire group. The Charedim mess things up enough for themselves-they dont need Yediot's assistance!
53. Is she i a missionary
Michael   (03.01.12)
Something doesn't make sense about this story. I suspsect Ynet has not actually investigated the issue but is just reporting a small part of a real issue.
54. to 37 keep out the ethiopians too right
Mordechai   (03.01.12)
What racism keep out all the haredim for the actions of a few. Thats called racism. I'm sure you also want to keep out the Ethiopians and the Separdim and the Arabs too. Too dark right. Secular racism is just as wrong and should be fully prosecuted by the law. People can live wherever they want without your permission
55. #53 - so are you saying...
dorothy friend ,   tel aviv   (03.01.12)
.... that it would be okay to beat up an elderly missionary? hope that isn't what you are saying!
56. #51 -- this has been going on for years, if not decades...
Dorothy Friend ,   Tel Aviv   (03.01.12)
...you should have protested sooner. Were you afraid to raise voices against "your own?" Now you see it isn't only the secular Jews that they attack. So you waited, as the quote goes, "until they came for you." Too little, too late.
57. J.K., #41
Professor Z ,   Jerusalem   (03.01.12)
Fair point. However, in my opinion, condemnations are rarely, if ever, effective. Whatever convinced these deranged individuals that they are performing "a mission of God" will not be changed by a condemnation. I think it is a fair to assume that Haredi rabbis denounced these actions to their respective congregations. Everyone asks "But where's the official public response?" My question is, what is the specific benefit of a public condemnation?
58. #47 When did I defend violent hooligans?
Roman ,   Lod, Israel   (03.01.12)
I neither condone nor defend violence - quite the contrary. And I commented more than once (to say the least) on how the police does nothing to curb violence, and that the actual criminals should be arrested. What I do, however, is try and defend the rights of the non-violent majority. A majority you often forget about, or pretend doesn't exist, or claim is to blame for the violence of the few, or should "do more" against it. What is left for them to do, Charles - set up vigilante groups to stop the criminals?
59. # 57 haredi rabbis denonce this actions,
J.K. ,   Brooklyn USA   (03.01.12)
this is not enogh, how about the neighbors helping the police arrest the "do gooders"they must have seen the three men entering and coming out the poor woman's apartment, after they carried out God's will, the problem is,that the police are reluctant to investigate crimes in the haredi ghettos, because the haredim consider cooperating with the state of Israel like cooperating with Czar Nikolay, the haredim have created a state within a state, where self appointed commisars rule, and nobody dares to stand up to God's military police.
60. #50 - nice try, Imposter
William ,   Israel   (03.01.12)
FAIL! You make this too easy for us because you're too blinded by hatred and lazy.
