1. Environmental concerns
BH ,   Iowa   (02.29.12)
Like busses burning fuel an extra day each week?
2. #1
Eugene ,   Israel   (02.29.12)
No, like buses substituting the typical heavy private car traffic on shabbat. Shame on Avoda, more decisions like that and they might may as well lose my vote.
3. Labour's wet dream...
Michael ,   Haifa   (02.29.12)
...sitting in a coalition with Shas and Agudat Yisrael
4. Another party
Ethan Schwartz ,   Eilat   (02.29.12)
no Platform, no ideals, no personality,. I don't want to vote for nameless faceless, empty parties anymore. I want a Representative Knesset, i want to know who represents me.
5. #2 Public transport reduces private car use on regular days?
Roman ,   Lod, Israel   (02.29.12)
I think you and I live in different traffic jams. If public transport here doesn't put a tiny dent in private car use in times of nonstop traffic jams, on *work* days, why would it suddenly do anything to reduce it on Shabbat? It may be possible, in some theoretical country that isn't run by us, to reduce private car use via public transport. Me? I barely even see car-pooling, least of all public transport doing anything to reduce constant private car use. If the goal behind the Meretz vote is an environmental concern, then why aren't they working nonstop to improve the existing public transportation infrastructure, to the point where more people might actually use it in the first place? Or to the point where people will be *able* to use it? I don't see them fighting against the rail union. Or demanding that the rail management be replaced due to constant mismanagement. Or their work toward improving bus lane designs and road planning (because right now, buses get stuck in traffic jams with everyone else).
6. They will , i hope , loose many votes
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (02.29.12)
for this . Sad , very sad "labor" [ ? ] party . Now we know , you are against the citizens without car , you want them to stay home on Shabbat too . Shame on you !
7. Great News
Yehudi ,   Jerusalem   (02.29.12)
What the secular people don't realize is that observing Shabbat is for the good of everyone including themselves. They may be upset but if they knew the reality they'd be jumping for joy.
8. #2
Simon ,   Canada   (02.29.12)
#2 "the typical heavy private car traffic" is aleviated by the thousands of religeous people who dont drive on shabbat. Even without busses, do you really think there are more cars on the raod on shabbat than the typical weekday?
9. LABOR! SHAME ON YOU!
Ze'ev ,   Nbg, germany   (03.01.12)
Never thought would get ever such a slap in the face of religious freedom from members of awoda! Coulndt believe that Shally sacrifice freedom to gain some religious votes! SHAME!
10. What's so hard to understant ?
Eugene ,   Israel   (03.01.12)
buses on shabbat=less need for private car usage. if one bus takes even 10 passengers it potentially replaces 10 private cars for the same route, which would be more polluting than a single bus.
11. Develop automatic shabbat buses, like shabbat lifts
Yossef   (03.01.12)
and respect the day of rest for everybody.
12. Stupid Yehudi #7
Gideon ,   Tel Aviv   (03.01.12)
You stay at home and jump of joy, let me live my life. This will end in Civil War
13. Run the buses anyway!!
Mr Bus on Shabbat ,   Rishon Le Zion   (03.01.12)
make a new company, who runs the buses on Shabbat, rented to Egged!!!
14. Who runs this country?
Ussishkin ,   Tel Aviv Israel   (03.01.12)
This is proof that everyone is scared of the orthodox influence in our political life. It is almost too late to break this stranglehold and ensure both a state that is separate from synagogue and a state that is not in fact a religious hegemony.
15. JESUSALEN

16. # 14 state and synagogue
J.K. ,   Brooklyn USA   (03.01.12)
Ussishkin ! Ephraim kishon : in Israel, since the separation of synagogue and state, only synagogue rules.
17. It's political games!
Roey   (03.01.12)
Even if Labor agrees with allowing public transportation on Shabbat, they will never do it because they might be in a position that they need some of the religious parties for a coalition so they don't want to shoot themselves in the foot by angering them. Cowardly? Yes. But it's the smart decision on their part. Meretz does not care since they would nevr joing a coalition with religious parties anyway.
18. THIS IS NOT A RELIGIOUS ISSUE
stude ham   (03.01.12)
and therefore doesn't need knesset assent. this is an issue of essential public services. let the crazy haredim do their own walking on shabbat. and let israel stop disadvantaging the rest of its people on shabbat because of these haredim.
19. Well, well...well. Finally Labor got seichel
Israeli 2   (03.01.12)
Mapam! Mapai! They all opted for no public transportation on the Shabbat. This is Eretz Yehudi - Chabibi!
20. I am amazed that I'm still allowed to buy milk &pastrami at
tom ,   tel aviv   (03.01.12)
the same time at my supermarket! I don't think it should be permitted for much longer. #7: I want to jump for joy too....... By contrast, an Arab lady-cashier at my Super, (that I've known for 25 years) suddenly refused to handle a bottle of vinegar, because it was "Wine-vinegar"! Now that's being pious. We like that, don't we? Which way to Mecca...?
21. Yachimowich the super wimp
Philip . ,   Afula, Israel   (03.01.12)
Such a weak and pathetic "leader" that she cant deal with this simple issue. Imagine if she was required to make decisions on real life and death issues. Run the buses on Shabat and let the people live a life of free choice.
22. This is a Heavenly dispute - you will lose
Avraham Yitzchock ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (03.01.12)
When things go right then G-D is an okay entity and then when things go wrong you are cursing out G-D. It is we Jews that have days on the calendars called Sabbado – the Shabbat but yet you think of it as just another day in the week. The siren wails on Yom HaShoah, everyone stops what they are doing and stands at attention and after the siren stops everyone goes back to their mundane actions. So what did you gain from the blast of the siren? What impact did it have on your day or your week? The answer is, it had nil effect as life went on and after the siren you went back to munching your sandwich, heading north to Haifa or wherever and your life did not change one iota. Shabbat on the other hand, is a day of reflection not a day at the supermarket or the beach. You do not see your husband or children all week as you are always missing them as you and they are going somewhere and Shabbat is the time for all of you to get together. To eat, to sing, to talk, to be thankful that there is a roof over your heads, that yes, you are not like any other people, you have the privilege of being the people of the Torah. You even have a chance to say, Thank you G-D for making it a good week for me. You want to start violating the Shabbat publicly and you will see that the end results will not bear fruit but will bear unfortunate things. Look at the second paragraph of the Shema prayer which starts off with V’Haya Im Shamoah . You are not turning against man's instructions but you will be turning against Heaven's. Meretz are the erev rav.
23. Labor betrays voters AGAIN!!!
Dorit Glass ,   TA IL   (03.01.12)
After Barak back stabbed the labor party, I thought Shelly would be different- clearly I was wrong!!! Never again will I vote for the souless party again! Ps. Gas is 8nis / liter
24. Labor
Mel ,   Chicago   (03.01.12)
This is Labors death certificate.
25. Even a stopped clock is right once a day, good vote.
Bunnie Meyer ,   Los Angeles, CA USA   (03.01.12)
26. Good public transportation reduces
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (03.01.12)
the use of private cars . Public transportation is prometed in many countries and towns . See how it goes in Zurich . In many towns private cars are more or less banned from down town in favor of public transportation . And now , in this country they will do the contrary , in favor of the non contributing religious ones . Sad , and a shame on the so called "labor" , let call this party a shas wing .
27. Labour will never get my vote.Vote Yair
Dyslexic.... ,   Israel...   (03.01.12)
Lapid a good guy.He will get the buses running.
28. #14 Proof that not everyone wants buses on shabbat
rebecca ,   Modiin   (03.01.12)
even in Tel Aviv. Honestly, you have the sheruts going. Are they full? NO. Will having buses stop anyone from using their private car on Shabbat - not a hope. It is clear to some that this is more about a snub to the Religious than a public need.
29. Private bus service on Shabbat will never happen
rebecca ,   Modiin   (03.01.12)
No private company will take on a service that will never pay. There simply is not the demand for this service. You have Sheruts on shabbat for the few who want to go out with out their own car. They are seldom full now.
30. Labor Party? What's that?
David ,   Karmiel, Israel   (03.01.12)
Typical Shelley Yachimovich. Appease and sell your people out! That's why the Labor Party, once THE Party of Israel, is so dead it would take a miracle to resurrect it! Even MK Vaknin of Shas maintains their is a necessity for buses on Shabbat to help those who earn the minimum wage and have to work on Shabbat to get to work without paying for taxis! Now Yachimovich is enforcing religious coercion the Labor Way! No one tells the religious how to live and how to spend their day of rest. The religious DO NOT have the right to tell others how to live their lives. They want tolerance but are not prepared to be tolerant!
