This opinion is correct. However, it does not give any reason why the USA should protect Israel. How is this of value to the USA interests. I find this failure in most of these talkbacks, i.e., the USA interests to be missing. Apart from the dismal quality of this opinion piece I am genuinely puzzled by the strange sense of entitlement that is shown here and in many other articles on this site. Obama is President of the United States and it is his duty of office to put the interests of his country first. If these do not match Israel's priorities (or those of any other country, for that matter), then bad luck for Israel. What makes people believe that he should yield to Israel's demands even if he believes that these might not match US interests? Additionally, all this chest thumping about being "master of your destiny" isn't that credible if you demand unconditional guarantees to get bailed out by the US if being "master of destiny" lands you in a mess.
