1. Walking Barefoot...
Rachel   (03.16.12)
Give me a break! We have brought thousands of Ethiopians here when nobody gave a horse's patoot about them. Are there some people the opposite of nice, or course--this happens in every country. If he is so hard done by let him go back to Ethiopia--see how he likes it.
2. Instead of regarding themselves as Ethiopians, maybe the..
Alexander ,   Tel Aviv, Israel   (03.15.12)
...Ethiopian Jews should consider themselves to be Jews and part of the Jewish people - instead of differentiating between Jews and Jews. I doubt very much that Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Moses, Joshua, the judges, the 12 tribes and the ancient kings of Israel and the ancient Jews of Israel were "Ethiopians". If Ethiopian Jews are serious about them being Jewish and serious about idenityfing themselves with the Jewish people, then just maybe should the Ethiopian Jews be concerned about ALL Jews - and not only the Ethiopian ones. And instead of victimizing themselves maybe they should study at the university and try to find a job. Because that's precisely what Jews have done for centuries across Europe and Middle East and indeed in Israel in modern times. But it seems that many Ethopian Jews are more concerned about their skin color and them being Ethiopians and less about being Jewish. Israel is not a country for Ethiopians - it is a country for Jews. If the Ethiopian Jews are Jewish - they're welcome. But maybe the problem is that they are not Jewish? That's maybe they place more emphasis on being Ethiopians and less emphasis on being Jews.
3. These people need to work, its simple as that
Mark ,   U.S.   (03.16.12)
Ethiopians do have problems, serious problems,, the males need to be employed, these males need to be integrated into the labor market in Israel,,, work, take pride in their labor, and paid conmmensurable wages. From here where I sit, all I see are some dolent, dormant males, just a race of black people(no pun) that aren't doing sh-t. Israel does exasperates this problem with it's virulent racism towards these people, as is practiced in the lighter skinned Middle East and by most Euro-Jews. How do you integrate Jewish immigrant people into Israeli society? Get rid of the racism, in America the Latino male works, takes pride in his labor, feels and becomes a part of America, how long is it going to take for the stone, a stone, that the builders are rejecting to get this nation of Israel on it's feet and walking in HaShem's light. Basically why did Israel bring these ETHIOPIAN JEWS to Israel if there are no opportunities to grow, work and be productive?

Ethiopian Jews are beautiful, strong, respectful, hard-working people and they are a gift to Israel. I support his efforts to end racism and hope to do more to help the cause!
7. wow and i thought the US is Bad
Adam ,   Tel Aviv   (03.17.12)
Listen to all of you. honestly, you sound like racist XXXX. Yes it is better in Israel than Ethiopia but come on. Since i have moved here all i have heard is, "their not really jewish", "I would never higher them:", "Yea, i would never rent to them", "They smell". Bottom line Israel has a lot of work to-do in regards to the integration of the Ethiopian community.

"I doubt very much that Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Moses, Joshua, the judges, the 12 tribes and the ancient kings of Israel and the ancient Jews of Israel were "Ethiopians"." You don't have to doubt, you can be SURE that they were not Ethiopians. Sorry to reveal this, but they weren't Europeans like you either. They were from middle east just like we Mizrahi Jews and other Semites in the region. They weren't white with blue eyes and blonde hair. Sorry to say, but you too fall in the same category like the Ethiopians. -Shalom
9. Ethiopian Jews
LK ,   USA   (03.17.12)
When I was in Israel 2 years ago, I talked with some Ethiopian Jews and have to admit that they very pro-Israel, hard working and very nice and easy going people. We have to listen to their grievances and help out.

Considering the fact that you don't know me personally you "know" many things about me - despite the fact that you don't know my background. First of all: there are no Semites - only Semitic languages. Second: Ashkenazim and Sephardim have almost identical genetical background - they are both a Mediterranean/Mid Eastern ethnic group of people. Even Yiddish speaking and gefilte fish eating Jews from Eastern Europe and Germany are a Mediterranean and/or Mid Eastern ethnic group of people that ethnically, physically and geneticall resemble Sephardic Jews and people of the Middle East and the Mediterranean a lot more than their German, Russian or Polish neighbors. European Jews are not Europeans. European Jews don't come from Europe. The origins of European Jewry is not in Europe. European Jews CAME TO Europe FROM the Middle East 1500-2000 years ago. Many Polish Jews are actually Spanish Jews that escaped the Spanish Inquisition centuries ago. In order for Jews to enter Europe from the Middle East, Jews had to cross the Caucasian Mountains, the Mediterranean, Minor Asia, North Africa - areas where Sephardic Jews lived for centuries. So actually what you call "European Jews" are actually "Sephardic Jews" that moved geographically from Middle East into Europe over a period that lasted for centuries. European Jews are as European as Chinese people are Aztec Indian. Who are the real Jews? Ashkenazim and Sephardim - in actuality the same ethnic group of people. Sorry to reveal this but most "European Jews" don't have blonde hair and blue eyes - only a small minority. For your information - I'm neither blonde nor blue eyed - I fit in perfectly in Middle East and the Mediterranean. How do you explain that some Iranians, Kurds, Turks and Arabs are blonde and blue eyed despite living in the Middle East for centuries? You are barking up the wrong tree. Shalom

For your information, only few Ashkenazi Jews have identical DNA to the Mizrahi Jews from middle east and N Africa. Recent study shows that Ashkenazi Jews are more closely related to the local European population than it was previously thought. Firstly, the Cohenim DNA from eastern European Jews found that about 50-55% of their DNA is mixed with white local European population. If the Cohenim are so much mixed with whites, then what do you say about others. Secondly, you cannot conduct a DNA test on a few Ashkenazi Jews and apply that to the entire Ashkenazi population. Some Ashkenazi are less mixed while some are more mixed. In US for example, there is a lot of admixture and assimilation. Many whites also convert here. So if you do a DNA test here, the results are going to be very different. You will not find even 15% of similarity between Mizrahis and these US Jews. Secondly, you said most European Jews are not blonde hair with blue eyes. Most of the Russian Jews that I see in the army and on streets and mostly white with many of them with blue eyes and blonde hair. Thirdly, you said how do I explain some Iranians and Kurds having blonde hair. That some you are talking about are 1 or 2 in 1000. The people who have been living on the mountains for thousands of years in these places have given them their features. But a blonde from the mountains of Kurdistan or Iran will have a completely different DNA than a blonde from Europe or a blonde Jew from Russia or Europe. Finally, historically there were Semites. There were more than 15 Semitic civilizations in middle east. Semites are people who lived in these places which includes present day saudi arabia up until northern Iraq. Get some history lessons.

I'm honestly sick and tired of hearing that one is a racist when delivering legitimate criticism against Ethiopian "Jews". They need to work and study - plain and simple. Claiming they don't have to because they are Black is reversed racism. Claiming that they stand above criticism because they are Black is racism. Second, Black people, Asians, Scandinavians, Aztek Indians and so on are not Jews - plain and simple. Why does Israel have to receive the whole world population and accept them as Jews? There are different ethnic groups of people. To be a Jew is not to merely belong to a Jewish religion but to belong to a Jewish nation - a Jewish ethnic group of people. Hating these Black people because they are Black is racism - I agree, but pointing out that they are not Jewish is not racism - it's a fact. How can a Black African be a Jew? Where is the common denominator and common ancestry and common bloodline? Why is it that most Jews don't look like them? Is that a racist statement too - to speak the truth? Why have Jews been a Mid Eastern/Mediterranean looking people for thousands of years? Is that racism too? Should we deny ourselves and commit collective suicide just to make liberals such as yourself happy? Honestly, why can't you simply accept that there is such a thing as ethnic groups of people? Japanese people are an ethnic group of people and so are Englishmen, Danes, Poles, Spaniards, Greeks, Kurds, Iranians, Arabs and Jews. Racism my friend, is hatred of other ethnic groups, not pointing out the differences between ethnic groups. If the Ethiopians really are Jewish, and if they belong to the same ethnic group of people, how can I and others be "racists"?

suzanne Sapir ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (03.23.12)
Stand up Jerusalemites and go to the Ethiopian Tent to support our brothers. Yayo is an Israeli hero. Go meet and talk to him TODAY
16. When will they ever learn.....?
yael ,   Israel   (03.28.12)
60 plus years down the line and we have learned nothing about tolerance, immigrant absorption and true equality. Israel's Ethiopian community is definitely discriminated against and in spite of some successs stories their treatment by the government and the citizenry is shocking. I wish yayo best of luck and hat at least h raises awareness.
