1. Great news. Tough standards, just separate. Thanks.

Now we don't have additional hurdles in order to attain higher education. Excellent.
2. Too bad many/most of the BOYS can't pass
Raymond in DC ,   Washington, USA   (03.20.12)
They, after all, don't study history, English, math or grammar. Which is a tragedy, and a negation of past practice. In 12th century Spain, rabbinic students were *expected* to study mathematics, philosophy, astronomy, medicine, music, and a lot more.
3. Please compare the two.

The article is incomplete without telling what is taught in the Haredi system from the basic subjects. Merely mentioning the subjects is not enough. Can those girls count to ten and recite the abc? Can they later perform some minimal skills at the work place? If not comparable, awarding Haredi girls certificates on a par with Bagrut will only degrade the real education in Israel.
4. External Exams

Kudos to Gideon Saar and the Szold Institute on a smart move. Much can be accomplished in this country when one does not approach problems with ingrained hostility.
5. Again special privileges for one sector.

Well those women need to get jobs in the real world to feed their families since their yeshiva boy husbands are not taking care of that. So if it means less of the tax-payers money being wasted, I guess I can live with it.
6. #2 Raymond - you are spot on!
Dorothy Friend ,   Tel Aviv   (03.20.12)
The High Middle Ages was indeed a time of glory for the Jewish people. Things started going down later, in the 16th-17th centuries. I never say that our Jewish fundamentalists are living in the Middle Ages, that era was far too educated and liberal for them.
7. I actually sent TB that said"cue Dorothy:"but it didn't post
(03.20.12)
It's Pavlovian, Dorothy, nothing less. A "Jewish fundamentalist", perhaps, but I'm certainly not yours and I'd dare say "far too educated" to mince many words with Pavlov's subject.
