1. But they are not refugees!
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (03.13.12)
South Sudan is now an independent nation. There are no shortage of agencies upon which South Sudan can draw upon for help, including UNIFIL forces to keep the peace. The United Nations has several well-funded agencies charged with the task of caring for refugees, and seeing to their basic needs. Israel is not a dumping ground for all manner of economic refugees who have no love for or loyalty to Israel, but rather seek only to take advantage of Israel's social service programs.
2. where is the UNHCR?
tom ,   toronto, canada   (03.13.12)
where is the un (useless nudniks) in all of this? why isn't the UNHCR, the organization created to look after refugees, looking after the refugees?! why aren't western countries lining up to accept their share of these refugees?
3. Deport them anyway.
Reuven   (03.13.12)

entebbe C130 ,   4 all of em   (03.13.12)
since they didnt they became economic migrants, and more importantly illegal infiltrators. It wouldnt matter if every artist in TA signed it, it wouldnt change the facts
7. Brain dead "celebrities' try to keep their names in the news
Chaim ,   Israel   (03.13.12)
That's really what this is all about. NOt about justice and certainly not about what is good for Israel.
8. Postpone Deportation
Zivron   (03.13.12)
The deportation ought be postponed and the fascists ought chill out.this is a post Shoah state and ought act with extra chesed.Tzipora and Yitro gave Moshe sanctuary.
9. If it's safe enough for Israeli businessmen ...
Raymond in DC ,   Washington, USA   (03.13.12)
As things settle down in South Sudan, Israeli businessmen will be well placed to take advantage of the opportunities. Better placed than Russia or China. What Israel needs to do (and has started doing) is preparing these refugees with the kind of skills that will be needed to rebuild and develop their country. But sooner or later they should return home.
10. To: No. 8
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (03.13.12)
Yours is a ridiculous and completely inapposite analogy. Moses was just one individual, who lived 6,000 years ago, when concepts of hospitality in a harsh desert environment were quite different than they are today, and long before there was a United Nations with a great many relief agencies. How many illegal Sudanese are there in Israel? However, you can pick your "Moses." He can stay; everyone else must go.

How do you propose to teach them? In what language? Are any of them actually literate in ANY language? The answer appears to be "no." So are we supposed to school them for twelve years, send them to university or trade school, and THEN send them home? By that time, there will be 70,000 of them!
12. Postpone Deportation
Zivron   (03.13.12)
The deportation ought be postponed and the fascists ought chill out.this is a post Shoah state and ought act with extra chesed.Tzipora and Yitro gave Moshe sanctuary.
13. sudanese refugees
milson   (03.13.12)
the thousands of refugees should be screened and those that are fit and willing should be educated and fed and then after a course injudaism and israeli history they should be taken into the idf which they would love and then payoff their debt to israel. In this way, idf could add 10,000 new soldiers.
14. celebrities against return
arne ,   chicago usa   (03.13.12)
so why not have them live with them. there's a saying here about American Jews--"They vote like Puerto Ricans and live like Presbyterians"
15. Postpone it by a couple of months
Michael ,   West Jerusalem/NY   (03.13.12)
Or at-least wait until the end of the school year, so students who are going to be deported could spread their knowledge.
16. Better still deport Eli Yishai
Haim ,   TA   (03.13.12)
17. The Israeli intelligentsia are simply not intelligent
Cowboy Joe ,   Calgary, Canada   (03.13.12)

Can't speak for other western countries, but we are currently already stretched to our limits, apart from the happy band of brothers from muslim countries who are currently enriching our society. Which doesn't stop the EU from demanding we accept still more.
19. send the sudanese to the nicer parts of Tel Aviv
Zionist forever   (03.14.12)
All these illegals need to do is go into the street with a banner saying DONT DEPORT ME I LOVE ISRAEL and the bleeding heart intellectuals are demanding the government give them all Israeli passports. I wonder what these intellectuals would be saying if the government said ok but if we let them stay we will have to house them in the nicer neighborhoods of Tel Aviv like the ones where you live because we can't leave them to rot at the bus station? Lets see how far their compassion reaches when they are living on their doorstep. There are an average of 3000 illegals a month coming from Sinai alone and this country cannot continue to act as a haven for every third world refugee & economic migrant. South Sudan might not be Israel but it is a safe place to send these people and its where they belong to deport Bibi deport and do it on a large scale not little gestures so it LOOKS like your actually doing something about the problem which so far you are not.
20. refugees
Magda ,   israel   (03.14.12)
i already have taken some into my home here in Tel Aviv, one, came here when he was 14 after watching his father being killed. he is studying to get into a college in the states, though it is very hard for them to come to the states because israel doesn't recognize refugee status, and so he, like most, are statusless . israel doesn't abide by the laws of the 1951 u.n. convention protecting refugees rights which ironically they helped to bring to fruition when it was convenient for them (when jews were world's refugees). also, according to a report published last year by a neutral committee of the knesset-- the community has among the lowest crime rates in israel. what is great- is that some of the young men i know fought for certain rights here and have been GREATLY helped by israelis and schools, and they see israel as a place where they can forget the horrors of their pasts, even when they are not guaranteed a future. israel has a natural inclination and intrinsic structures already in place to take care of refugees, to rehabilitate them, give them a place of rest. this is what israel should be most proud of and show the world. people who live outside and inside of israel hardly hear about this.
21. To: No. 20
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (03.14.12)
Then why are so many criminals, illiterate and not particularly interested in education? Israel is the natural home for Jewish refugees. All others can go somewhere else. The intrinsic nature of our state is so fragile, it must be protected, and there are plenty of other places for these Sudanese to go. Sorry. Reality trumps, in this instance. But if you really feel that strongly, why not adopt those children? Then they become your headache, not Israel's. Save a soul on your own dime, sweetie. I prefer to see Israel's resources devoted to Israelis. By the way -- how many of the Sudanese have exhibited absolutely any interest in the Jewish faith, or the history of the Jewish people? A big resounding "none." They are interested in making money, sucking up as much of Israel's social services as possible while giving back nothing at all. Now that South Sudan is a country with all the rights and privileges accorded sovereign states, it is time to send these Sudanese economic "refugees" home, and let them become the problem of the world community and the deep pockets of the United Nations. We have done enough for them, while Jewish children in depressed communities do without. Let us not forget our purpose. Chesed is all well and good, and I will contribute generously to any fund created to support the South Sudanese -- in Sudan. But Israel's chief concern should be Israelis. And Jews. Let the U.N. find a way to be proud of all the good works they do on behalf of refugees. Let Israel take care of its own. I am all for sending a Sudanese child to college -- on the U.N.'s dime.
