They can't patrol all at the same time. They need to return from time to time for refueling, maintenance, upgrades and so on... That is why another two is being built and sub #6 is being ordered. Right now you'll probably only able to keep one sub in the hormuz at all times, later you can have at least three. But the cruise missiles aboard don't require the sub to be stationed in the narrow hormuz. In fact it may be much wiser to patrol the indian ocean instead - Iran will still be very well within reach of those cruise missiles with far lesser risk of Iranian navy intercepting the sub.
11. Very good,
Beary White ,   Norway   (03.21.12)
This gives me a very nice feeling. And for sure the subs will be well equipped.

15. we should have bought a greek submarine
zionst forever   (03.21.12)
Instead of doing political deals with Germany to get a German subsidy for a submarine that Israel won't get for many years to come we should have done a deal with Greece. Right now Greece operate both the submarines that are in the same class as the Dolphin ( Type 209 ) and the more advanced version the Type 214 Greece currently has three Type 214 submarines undergoing sea trials. I am sure that we could have done a deal with the cash strapped Greece for one of its new subs probably for less that $530, fitted it out with our own systems and made modifications we wanted and we could probably have the thing in service within a couple of years. The new sub from Germany is easily going to take about 4-5 years before its even delivered, then the navy will want to install its own systems and take it on sea trials so it probably won't be operational till around 2020. As long as its under construction its nothing but a pile of metal of no use to Israel. Buying a Greek sub would have made everybody but the builder HDW in Germany happy. German government doesn't pay a thrid of the cost, Greece gets some much needed funds, Israel gets a more modern sub which can be delivered to Israel as soon as the contracts are signed.
17. Zionist @ 15, one deal does not exclude another.
leo ,   usa   (03.21.12)
Besides, it does not look like Greece is in selling mode.
18. Perhaps Germany can sell Israel
Bad Assed Jew ,   United States   (03.22.12)
a large enough plane to deliver the biggest buster bombs needed to attack Iran? Hmmm?
19. @15
Max ,   Berlin   (03.22.12)
you should know that the only thing in greece which isn't affected by the bankruptcy is the military section. greece bought the Type 214 subs for it's own army, so you're not the only one who owns german high tech now. @7 buddy grow up and learn that the holocaust card doesn't work for a lot of people anymore, by grandfather wasn't even born, all that you earn is pity

zionist forever   (03.22.12)
Greece originally ordered four Type 214s the first to be built in Germany the others to be built in Greece. There were originally technical problems with the first sub which were fixed but because of debts the Greek government has said they would buy the three subs which were to be built in Greece but not the first one built in Germany. That sub is sitting in Kiel right now waiting to be sold to pay debts Greece owes for not taking delivery of it. So we would not even have had to deal with Greece and could have bought the thing straight from the manufacturers for the same price and then had a new Type 214 which would have been not only good for Israel but also the manufactuers who would have the Greek debt paid. Nobody chasing Greece to pay their debts. HDW not losing out on unpaid debts. Israel gets a brand new Type 214 right now for the price of a debt. Less of a subsidy for the German government. Its just a shame Barak never considered going down that road.
21. drop rodents and snakes vs bombs
Shmuel ,   Jupiter USA   (07.29.12)
Think creative. Bombs are too costly. Drop snakes, rodents, bugs, creepy rodents, infestations, on the barracks. In the City, drop canned healthy food, soup, matzo.
