1. Who Is Rabbi Eliezer Melamed?
Yoni ,   Shomron   (03.26.12)
Thank God, Israel has a true leader in Rabbi Eliezer Melamed, who is not afraid to speak the truth, and is willing to pay the price for it. His yeshiva was thrown out of an army program (Hesder), losing substantial funding from the Ministry of Defense, because he had the guts to criticise corruption in the senior ranks of the I.D.F., and rule that according to Jewish law, it is forbidden to expel a Jew from his house, and a soldier who receives such an order must refuse to fulfill it. For his brave and courageous stance, God has blessed the work of his hands, his yeshiva is growing faster than before, his series of Jewish law books are selling and being learned in the thousands, and are being translated into numerous languages. If Israel only had more men like him -- capable, God-fearing men -- men of truth, who hate injustice -- we'd be a lot better off!
2. 'Netanyahu, Barak seek to boost ego with attack on Iran'
Nikos Retsos ,   Chicago, USA   (03.26.12)
To boost their ego, Barak and Netanyahu have to score a decisively victory against Iran, and all military experts agree that won't happen! Iran is not Idi Amin's Uganda, and there will be no "Entebbe Airport" glory to obtain by attacking it! And looking at the 2006 Israeli abject failure to damage Hezbollah after 68 days of bombing Lebanon, I don't see how the Israeli air force can do better against Iran. Barak's and Netanyahu's ego is just a hot air balloon that Iran is waiting to prick - if they dare! Nikos Retsos, retired professor

4. ya the rabbi's aren't? they are the most ego driven bunch.
ralph   (03.26.12)
5. Who is Rabbi EM
Marc ,   Beit Shemesh   (03.26.12)
Talk about an ego maniac. He acts like G-d speaks directly to him. A little humility dear Rabbi. Know your place. Read some Pirkei Avot. Speak little and do alot. Who asked his opinion? The problem with R EM and his ilk is that they speak with authority but have no basis for their viewpoints. They manipulate the holy torah to fit their own purposes.
6. To Marc
Yonaton ,   Har Bracha   (03.26.12)
Maybe YOU, my friend, should learn a little Pirkei Avot! "Warm yourself by the fire of the Sages but beware of their glowing coals so you will not be burned; because their bite is like that of a fox, their sting is like that of a scorpion, their hiss is like that of a serpent, and all their words are like fiery coals" "Seven qualities charachterize the CLOD and seven the wise man. 1)The wise man does not speak before him who is greater than he in wisdom and experience... he is not hasty to reply...he acknowledges the truth. And the opposite of these traits apply to the CLOD!" "I have not found anything better for a person than SILENCE!" When you become a Rabbi with thousands of students, publish books on halcha, and build a community in Eretz Yisrael, then we'll talk. Until then, של נעליך מעל רגליך
7. Netanyahu is perfectly correct.
David T   (03.26.12)
Netanyahu is perfectly correct. Imagine if Israel had not bombed Osirak (against American & European objections), those Scuds that hit Israel in the Gulf War in 1991 would have had Nuclear warheads on them. And the Ayatollahs are 100X more fanatical & extreme than Saddam ever was !
8. Melamed, did you make an appointment with the messaiah?
Yossi   (03.26.12)
9. Rabbi Melamed makes no sense whatsoever.
Chaim ,   Israel   (03.27.12)
Rabbi Melamed makes no sense whatsoever. How can any sane person NOT see the existential danger of a nuclear armed Iran? Torah education certainly can't make a wise man of an apparent fool.

john Darren ,   cairns-Australia   (03.27.12)
Well retired professor -you certainly do not know much about the "abject failure to damage Hezbollah".Their obese leader still resides in a deep bunker.Pressure from the world stopped Israel from finishing the job and not IDF"s incapability. That pressure will be ignored where Iran is concerned .
11. Yonaton
Marc ,   Beit Shemesh   (03.27.12)
The Rabbi should speak about his Torah views and not issues that he is not qualified to speak about. He is extremely irresponsible when he speaks about things that he admits he does not understand. Also his arrogance has done terrible things to the image of the Dati Leumi world. Finally, just because he has followers does not make him correct. A little humility would go along way.
12. Nowadays, the word "rabbi" means the
jason white ,   afula,israel   (03.27.12)
village fool. We do not need this position anymore. They are leaders without any idea of where to lead. We need scholars in Judaism, but not rabbis. Let them fade away with time.
13. Rabbi Melamed is 100% correct
Steve ,   San Francisco   (03.27.12)
In all his points he has taken the words right out of my mouth. There are two PMs now Barak and Netanyahu, both are leftists, and both sacrifice Jewish rights to please their lords and masters in Washington.
14. The knowledge of Rabbis
Phil ,   USA   (03.27.12)
I will agree that most Rabbis knowmore about theTorah and the Talmud than most lay people do. However, that is the extent of their authority. Some Rabbis are wise, some are stupid, some are kind and compassionate, some are cruel and vindictive, some are moral, some are immoral. In other words, in most areas, Rabbis are like the rest of the population Unfortunately, this Rabbi seems to be an intolerant and ignorant man who has psychoanalyzed the inner sould of Barak and Netanyahu and somehow has insider information that has escaped the Mossad and most other intelligence circles. Can you imagine that even one person wil sleep more soundlyy knowing that the Rabbi has prophesized that Iran will not nuke Israel?
