yossi   (03.23.12)
Mr. dovutoglu' why don't you slam your head against the wall, maybe it will enduce som common sens, not available in your country and greatly in demand. while we're in the demand mode, why don't you go the hell out of Cyprus, apologise to the Armenians for sending them to the slaughterhouse, or to Israel for sending your gangsters aboard the Marmara ??. That shouldn't be to great a request for a country of your stature, should it?

I had a reply to Anton but not published. Here s an reply to Serif: When your economy is at the bottom it s easy to make big advances. In Turkey's case the expansion thanks to Israel's help in lifting the crippling US embargo that was imposed in 1974 after Cyprus invasion. However all of that expansion based on growing foreign debt and growing borrowing. Additionally per capita income in Turkey s half of Greece and Israel. What that means is only a group of AKP yandslasri (AKP supporters) are enjoying the wealth while the majority of Turks are still poor and in need of AKP's care packages from election to election.

Actually today's Turkish government is a typical dictatorship. There are thousands of dissidents for over 2 years in Jail. Phones are listened by the police intelligence, people are illegally videotaped in the privacy of their homes by the authorities and when convenient to the government served to the media. People who raise opinion against the government are beaten and intimidated. Not much different then Stalin's SSCB.

validus ,   new york usa   (03.23.12)
There is absolutely nothing of relevance to come out of the current Turkish Govt....Worry about their abrogation of civil rights [war on journalists]. Murdering of Kurds, Occupation of Northern Cyprus. Tayyip, STFU.
37. Turkey
Allan Freedman ,   Toronto   (03.23.12)
Turkey should shut the f...k up already! Who asked them for an opinion and why should they have anything to say anyways? They are a bunch of hypocrites and should be more concerned with their own country and the genocide that they have done to the kurds.
38. Nr 7 Simon London
Mary ,   Cyprus   (03.23.12)
"They( turks in Cyprus) don't try to steel more land!! Dear Simon yes they do! they used to be 18% of population and after brought settlers from Turkey they want EQUALITY. That means- we are owners of half of Cyprus by force, and we want your signature to be partners on the other half also!- Not to mention the violations they do in the Agean sea, Greece every single day. Little davoutoglou is not in a position to slam anybody. His hands are full of blood.
39. All of Turkey is occupied
AL QUDS ALYAHUDI   (03.23.12)
The whole of Turkey is occupied by Muslims by the Islamic Sword. First give the newly called Turkey to their real owner such as, Greece,Bulgaria, Romania. Turklsh Muslims should go to their hole where their ancestors came from
40. Simon #7
Geoff ,   London (UK)   (03.23.12)
You're right, Simon - the Turkish settlers do live peacefully - because they expelled the Greek population with whom they could not live peacefully! If Israel copied the Turks and expelled the Palestinians from the West Bank they too would live peacefully.
41. To:28 democracy
serif ,   Turkey   (03.23.12)
As a software engineer I lived and worked in France and Australia 7 years before coming back to Turkey. Comparing western countries to todays Turkey, I am pretty happy about the level of democracy in my country. Sure, there are problems but this government is doing utmost to solve them: new constitution, more freedom to ethnic groups etc. We have saying 'true friend says harsh things'. Davutoglu will be the one on your side if it was your right were violated. Think about it.

solomon ,   bklyn   (03.23.12)
Cyprus cannot be compared to “Palestine”. Turkey invaded north Cyprus. Israel was attacked by the arabs (care to count how many times?). Cyprus is a country; a member of the UN. Israel is also a country; a member of the UN, but the land the settlements are on is “disputed territory”. The people living in Judea and Samaria (aka WB) do not live in a ghetto (look in a dictionary). Any semblance of a ghetto is self-made as “no Jews allowed”...and they aren’t too kind to Christians either. It is the arabs that must make amends. You show your myopia by thinking that the UNHRC should be listened to. They should be listened to as much as the world should listen to Iran. Read #15.
43. Response to#13
John R ,   n   (03.23.12)
First, there is absolutely a legal document which prohibits Israeli settlements on the West Bank. It is called the 4th Geneva Convention, Article 49 paragraph 6 which states: “The Occupying Power shall not deport or TRANSFER parts of its own civilian population into the territory it occupies.” (Israel's own Supreme Court has labeled Israel a belligerent occupier) . Israel's violation of Article 49 was unanimously ruled on by 15 judges in the ICJ in 2005 and Israel was judged to violate it. Second Article 6 of the Palestine Mandate was an administrative directive for Britain to increase Jewish immigration into the Mandate for one purpose TO CORRECT A DEMOGRAPHIC IMBALANCE WHICH PREVENTED THE FORMATION OF A DEMOCRATIC JEWISH STATE. In 1922 only 11% of the population West of the Jordan River was Jewish. That intended right ended in 1948 when Israel was formed by surrounding the contiguous enclaves west of the Jordan River where Jews were in a majority. That is how Israel was formed. Third, I don't care about the borders of ancient Israel and neither does any other country in the world. The Romans conquered Gaul several thousand years ago. That does not give Italy the right to claim France as their own. Fourth , for whatever Turkey is guilty of it does not excuse Israel's illegal behavior.
44. Turkey Slam?

Tell the Turks to get out of Kurdish areas Armenian areas Cyprus and then let them talk!

If you are happy at a democracy where Mustafa Balbay, Tuncay Ozkan and about 100 more journalists as well as medical doctor (And an elected member of TBMM) Haberal are in Slivri Jail over 1 year where the leader of a political party (Deniz Baykal) is illegally videotaped in the privacy of his room, where all phone conversations may be illegally listened then don't complain when the time will come when your freedoms and rights are violated by the authorities. Just continue to be happy.
47. Tell Turkey to give the Kurds their land!
Don Rosenberg ,   Palatine USA   (03.23.12)
Normal muslim BS. They do what they want, racism, kill, take land and lecture Israel. What pompous bigots and murderers. Israelis and Jews should never visit this barbaric land.
48. Response to#42
John R ,   NYC USA   (03.23.12)
The only one who is disputing the land is the Israeli Government. In 2005 there were 2 rulings by Israeli Supreme Court, B'Tselem and the Security Fence and the Gaza Disengagement Plan. Both labeled Israel as a "belligerent occupier." They did not label them "as if " they were a belligerent occupier, they labeled them as a "belligerent occupier." In the Gaza ruling they said that it was not Israeli land.

what turkey and the international community are guilty of is that they only single israel for these kinds of aprobations and resolutions against it... while, no one ever mentions the crimes committed by turkey in cyprus by invading the north part of it and then changing its demographic map by TRANSFERRING MILLIONS OF ENTHNIC MUSLIM TURKS INTO THAT PART OF CYPRUS. THE GENEVA CONVESNTION STRICTLY SAY, THAT POPULATION TRANSFERS INTO CONQUERED TERRITORY IS ILLEGAL!!! no one in the world approves or recognizes turkish invasion of cyprus. no one. yet, where are the condemnatins and resolutions against turkey in the geneva or in the un???? nothing? i thought so. so, the un is only against israel. and this is where the hypocricy lies. turkey should be treated by the un the very same as israel is treated and only then, israel will be convinced that others' national illegal behaviors are as condemned as israel's is. hence lies the difference. otherwise, it is hypocricy. hameed aboughaze, iranian
50. To:33 Turkish economy
Serif ,   Ankara Turkey   (03.23.12)
Well as I said I lived in the West and as an engineer I was paid top salary. I am much better off financially in Turkey than in France. And by the way have you heard about 1 percent 99 percen story lately?
51. #50
(03.23.12)
yes, you are paid well, but what about 80% of your poor in turkey. 20% doesn't make for good economy where the b ottom 80% live from government handouts and below poverty line. hameed aboughaze, iranian
52. Response to#49
John R ,   NYC USA   (03.23.12)
I'm not questioning the hypocrisy which is very real. I am questioning using it as an excuse to justify illegal behavior. If I was Turkish or Muslim i'd be writing in their on-line paper. I'm Jewish and I have difficulty watching us break the law especially excusing it on religious grounds.
53. #50 Serif
David Israel ,   New York, USA   (03.23.12)
Good for you. But what about Nedim Sener who spent 1 year in jail for writing about the Hrant Dink Murder? I am a software engineer as well and work for a salary n the USA. That makes me part of the 99%. I am not n need of care packages distributed from election to election nether any American or European. There are some people in such need n USA but they do not make even 1%. n fact even n these economic troubles there are plenty of illegal immigrants trying to get in to USA including many from Turkey. The number of Turkish immigrants in Patterson NJ or Brooklyn NY s never getting smaller. Same in Europe. The Turkish immigrants are growing in numbers every day. guess your salt is dry (Tuzun kuru) so you can rant as you like but most salaried Turks can barely make enough to pay rent for a modest little apartment.
54. Erdogan's Turkey is not relevant anymore!
(03.23.12)
Israel shows Erdogan and his lackeys the finger. Israel does not speak or listen to tyrants who support genocide and racism, while hiding their own genocide of the Armenian People!

While two wrongs don’t make a right you seem to have made up your mind that both Israel and Turkey are wrong already. You as a Turkish citizen have the option to make conclusions without much thinking about it since you are not n a decision making position. However a Foreign Minister – the top diplomat of a country – does not have the same luxury because each word that he says might have some consequences. As far as Cyprus is concerned: As I am 62 years old and living in Turkey n 1974 remember very well why Turkish military had to intervene n Cyprus. T was a reaction to Nikos Sampson coup against Makarios and the thread against the Turkish minority. While the intervention could have been justified, the on gong occupation and having many Greek Cypriots from Varosha not being able to return to their homes since 1974 s definitely an illegal occupation. Israel on the other hand was attacked n 1967 by Arab powers who at the time were the illegal occupiers of the West Bank, Gaza and Jerusalem. They lost the war that they started and with it the territories. Israel has pulled out from Gaza ever since and Turkey had offered a 1 billon dollar prosperity plan for Gaza. Arabs rejected and Hamas has been using the region to attack Israel ever since. Israel offered peace n 2000 to Arabs offering all of Gaza, 96% of WB + additional Israel land and Capital in East Jerusalem but Arabs rejected it. They want all of Israel. As you see what is right and what s wrong needs some study and thinking. However diplomacy s much more than that. Needs to be silent when it is best. It would have been better for Mr. Davutoglu to keep silent at least on this matter.
56. Davutoglu learn how to walk before you run!!

Have you lost you're mind? Turkey belongs to Kurds, Armaniens and Greeks, get the f out!
57. Turkey: independent and successful for almost a millennium.
SecularTurkAmerican ,   USA   (03.23.12)
I can pretend I care what you messianic and uninformed idiots say or I can just listen to the analysis of Startfor, one most highly regarded geopolitical intelligence consultants: Turkey is one of the most important countries and Israel needs Turkey way more than Turkey needs Israel. If geopolitics was a god you guys are definitely NOT the chosen people. This is an existential fact. Learn to deal with it.
58. #57 Good spin but no cigar
David Israel ,   New York, USA   (03.23.12)
1. If Startfor was discriminating such good news about Turkey why are most Turks and media so upset about Stratfor? (As you know follow Turkish media daily, even Zaman) 2. There is no doubt that Turkey s Geopoliticaly very important but when USA could not get the help of Turkey at the beginning of the Iraq war, still invaded Iraq n only a few days without using Turkish border. So don't put all bets on your geopolitical advantage because with modern technology t is not as important as it used to be. 3. Making good friends with the right people is more important these days. (as they say n Turkey korle yatan sasi kalkar). Knowing from the history nether USA nor Israel are blind. So you make your choice.
59. Turkey Islamist-Jihadists
Brod ,   USA   (03.23.12)
They intrude in Israel's internal affairs. It is time for the Kurds to liberate their people in Turkey to rid the place of Islamist-Jihadists. The dark forces think Israel came from Mars. They do not know that the Land of Israel belongs to Israel since ancient time. Israel should use the Bible, History and Biblical Archaeology to educate the world about the Land of Israel and detox them from the lies and deceptions of the Islamist-Jihadists claiming that the Land of Israel belongs to them.
60. @58
sipahi ,   Istanbul   (03.23.12)
1. Nobody is upset about Stratfor. The discussion was about the claim of her president that one of the chief consultants of Erdogan was the company's main source. 2. Turkey has a big, advanced, battle-hardened army that is getting only more powerful with indigenious weapon systems every day. Moreover, technology only does not win wars, see Afghanistan. If the Kurds did not ally the US, and if the Shia did not stand still and some of the Sunni officers did fight with honour instead of getting bribed and fled, thing could be much harder for US. See Nasiriyah, see Fallujah. 3. The same is true for Turkey, too. Remember, US will not always be around these waters, but Turkey will be. Turkey, who recognized you first.
