1. My granddaughter
Tuvia Schertzman,MD ,   Betar Ilit   (03.27.12)
has an American passport, having been born in Jerusalem. Both parents and grandparents are also US citizens with passports. They refused to give her a social security number. We are also fighting.
2. Does this mean now that an American
Israeli 2   (03.27.12)
of Arab desecent born in Jerusalem may request that "Palestine" be placed on HIS passport? If it is only for ID purpose, then what does it matter anymore? Everyone can now claim Jerusalem as belonging to their ethnicity or country.
3. It was Jerusalem before the Arab invaders & its not Al Quds
PETER SM ,   AUSTRALIA   (03.27.12)
now ,despite Arabs trashing Jewish Synagogues and cemetries and building a Mosque on top of the Temple. It was,is and always will be Jerusalem Israel
4. Palestine...get the votes first.
David   (03.27.12)
Palestine does not exist as an internationally recognised country. The existing U.S law, enacted by Congress, states that the passport should list Israel as the country. If you want Palestine as an option, and you are an American voter, vote for a majority of congressional representatives that will back it. That's how democracy works. It's based on votes, not on the opinion of of few people. Or, the opinion of a President that declines to follow the law of the land. That's what this court case is about.
5. Ridiculous Waste OF Court's Time
World Citizen ,   the world   (03.27.12)
These Jews have too much money to play with. If the child was born in Jerusalem then he was born in the Occupied Territories. No amount of money is going to change that.
6. #5 Of course!
(03.27.12)
"These Jews" do not need any court or any stamp to be allowed to decide on their fate and their origin! "These Jews" have the inalienable right to their lands and no racist pig like yourself can do anything about it anymore. "These Jews" have returned home and we'll be staying home - over YOUR dead body if you pressure them too much. And they have full support of the American People and all the decent and honest people worldwide. You should be ashamed that your support comes from the worst human rights offenders, genocide mongers, tyrants and dictators, corrupt politicians and bloodthirsty Islamist murderers. You are not a "World Citizen" - you are rather a representative of the "World Racist Scum"
7. To: No. 5
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (03.27.12)
First of all, the child was born in a West Jerusalem hospital. Secondly, the only illegal occupiers in Jerusalem are the Arabs. Moreover, U.S. passports list the city and country of one's birth. It is unconstitutional to set a different standard for American citizens born in Jerusalem. This has nothing to do with money. I'm willing to bet that the case is being handled on a pro bono basis, and there is a serious constitutional issue being argued, as the highest court in the United States has ruled.
8. To: Israeli 2 at No. 2
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (03.27.12)
No. Palestine is not a country, and United States passports are required to list the city and country of one's birth. Judging from the humiliation the ersatz "Palestinians" suffered at the hands of the United Nations this past fall, Palestine will never be a country.
9. To: Dr. Schertzman at No. 1
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (03.27.12)
That's a different battle, actually. If your granddaughter resides in the United States, she must, by law, have a Social Security number. But Social Security numbers are based on residence, not citizenship. The fastest way to get a Social Security number for her would be for her (assuming she is old enough to work) or her parents, if she is not old enough to work, to pay taxes in the United States. All U.S. taxpayers, and their claimed dependents, must have Social Security numbers.
