This is a common way of writing for Israeli journalists that they refer to certain groups as a whole and basically say that they think, behave and feel all in the same way. It's a common way of writing about small towns in the US, but Israeli journalists do it with: Arab Israelis, Mizrakhim, small towns, religious people, women, etc. We actually have a whole class on this and it makes me think there has to be a real overhaul in journalistic standards.
