Who else other than people whose minds are made up will read this?
2. QUOTING GOLDSTONE.
mary of bethany ,   singapore   (04.03.12)
"The charge that Israel is an apartheid state is a false and malicious one that precludes, rather than promotes, peace and harmony," Judge Goldstone Israeli Arabs (20 percent of Israel’s population) vote, have political parties and representatives in the Knesset and occupy positions of acclaim, including on its Supreme Court. Arab patients lie alongside Jewish patients in Israeli hospitals, receiving identical treatment." "If I had known then what I know now, the Goldstone Report would have been a different document.”
3. Concise and well-written article.
Robert Haymond ,   Israel/Canada   (04.03.12)
4. arpartheid piece
fred lazin ,   nyc USA   (04.03.12)
Has the author read Carter's book? I doubt it. It has nothing to do with Israel and Israeli Arabs who are citizens of Israel. The term is used to describe the situation in the territories where Jews only are citizens and the Arab majority in the territories have no right to vote.
5. keep on thinking please,... why are they hostile?
Ali Z ,   Washington, DC   (04.03.12)
6. let me tell you a secret: 20+ yrs ago...
rick ,   walnut creek   (04.03.12)
a little more than 20 years ago, an American p.r. firm came up with the idea that Israel should be stigmatized as an "apartheid regime." the theme became one of the talking points of "palestinian" and other arab spokesmen and it was, in time, worked into every single statement about Israel, irrespective of whether the slander had the remotest connection to the subject at hand. and, the strategy has worked to an astonishing degree. otherwise intelligent and thoughtful people repeat the slander as if it were the obvious and indisputable truth. they don't know the relevant facts (their ignorance is, in fact, staggering) but they have no doubt about the accuracy of the charge and the urgency of the cause. an important arab diplomat in Washington confided, off the record, that he thought the charge was ridiculous but he savored the magical effect of the charge and its utility in recruiting western artists and academics. this diplomat socializes with some of these artists and academics but he has nothing but contempt for them. he realizes how foolish western elites can easily change their minds and be made to turn on their erstwhile friends.

situation Dan Calic tells it like it is.
10. glaring factual errors in apartheid piece
yonatan silverman ,   tel aviv israel   (04.03.12)
Apartheid in S. Africa had nothing to do with the British Commonwealth. The Afrikaner white minority population of S. Africa created a National Party policy for this in 1948 Also the separation fence did not start the second intifada it was a logical result of the murder and terrorism that took place here between 2000 and 2002

Perhaps the most compelling talkback I have read, ever. Very cogent and informative.
15. An error in the article
Istvan ,   BUDAPEST HUNGARY   (04.03.12)
In South Africa 20% white population was present only during the 1970-80 years. Today it is about 7%.I,2 millions emmigrated thanks to the circumstances due "free South Africa". I am sure "apartheid" was a necessary self defense tactic against the annihilation.
16. An insult
Mark ,   Kfar Saba   (04.03.12)
For anyone to ever compare Israel to an Apartheid state is a shameful insult to the millions of black South Africans that lived (and died) under the Apartheid regime pre 1994 in South Africa. In South Africa, the greater majority of the people were denied basic rights such as freedom of movement, access to public places, THE RIGHT TO VOTE, free choice of where to live. The people were denied access to public facilities such as parks, police stations and post offices. They were denied the use of public transportation, and where access was given, it was on specially demarcated seating or via seperate entrances marked "Blacks Only". There was no access to schooling on a par with the whites, no access to health care, land ownership was prohibited, detention without trial was legal, movement between areas (city to city, suburb to suburb etc) was restricted and controlled with a pass - an official document granting permission. The majority had NO access to housing, running water or electricity and had no-one they could turn to or vote for who could represent them. there were no black judges, policemen, doctors, dentists, lawyers, accountants, public defenders etc. In fact, they were relegated on the whole to manual, menial labour. Israel is an Aparheid State - YEAH RIGHT!!! Do not ever besmirch the memory of those who died and suffered under Apartheid in South Africa with such purile comparisons.
17. Please
Abed ,   Nazareth   (04.03.12)
If Israel is an apartheid state? How do you explain me? I vote, I travel, I served in the army and I have the title of the head of a paralegal department for a law firm. Most of the people under me are Jewish. Where is the apartheid?
18. The author got it wrong...
john   (04.03.12)
Usually, when Israel is referred to as an Apartheid state, it is NOT in reference to Israeli-Arabs. Rather, anti-Israel activists are referring to Israel and the Palestinians - and the differences in law within the Disputed Territories. While I think calling israel an apartheid state is born out of true ignorance and has zero truth to it, it should be made clear that such descriptions refer to Israel and the Palestinians, not our own Arab citizens.
19. I know Goldstone VERY well.He knew exactly what he was reporting!
Alan ,   Johannesburg South Africa   (04.03.12)
No ifs or buts.
20. It is the wall or fence that keeps Jews alive.
jason white ,   afula, israel   (04.03.12)
The world loves Jewish victims. Dead Jews are their oxygen and life. As long as Jews stay alive and defend ourselves, the world will hate us even more. Are we to be blamed for wanting to survive? We will not commit national suicide to appease our enemies or our fake friends. We suffered for 2000 years and we were condemned for that. We will not be destroyed by their hate, terror and wars!
21. #17, thanks for speaking up.

Chimo ,   Las Vegas   (04.03.12)
You make great points, and you are of course right. It's just a shame that so many other arab and or leftist people are taken in by the predjudicial statements of those who hate Israel. Your comments are a great service to your country, and I'm sure most Israelis appreciate your words
23. #17 Abed, and I hope that the situation will improve
Yossef   (04.03.12)
for the rest of the arab israeli population, and we'll get sooner or later a model of peaceful and friendly coexistence for the entire world. You, we, are a part of this project.
24. The answer and #2
israel israeli ,   tel aviv   (04.03.12)
The answer is that everyone knows that Israel is not an apartheid state, but these accusations are part of the war to exterminate the Jews. That is how war is. #2: regarding Goldstone. Despite the nice words, Goldstone became one of Hamas' most important weapons when accepted money to delegitimize Israel and to reinforce the image that Jews have no right of self-defense. Our problem is that there are many Jews who are willing to take money to do the same.
25. #10 Yonatan Silverman
Kim ,   South Africa   (04.03.12)
You are quite correct in stating that it was not British Colonialism that implemented apartheid, but the Afrikaans dominated National Party in 1948. Even the term "apartheid" is an Afrikaans word meaning "separate-ness", or "in a state of separateness" It is also interesting to note, that due to the Anglo-Boer war and British atrocitiies against the Afrikaaners, the latter developed a hatred of the British. During the second world war, many became Nazi sympathisers.
26. Very good article abiut the Real Apartheid!
David ,   Karmiel, Israel   (04.03.12)
As an ex-South African who grew up in South Africa lived there until 1985 I find it sad that the "New" South Africa, where all are equal but still, some are more equal than others and poverty lines and crime have really changed, has become a cesspool of hatred and Israel and Jews. Carter coined "Apartheid Israel", Goldstone engraved it in stone but the worst example is the grotesque and vicious Antisemitism which come out of the mouth of the 21st Century Goebbels - Archbishop Desmond Tutu! Tutu, in his despicable diatribes against Jews and Israel forgets how many Jews, like the late Helen Suzman, stood up for the rights of Blacks and Justice and how many Jewish South Africans had to leave South Africa because they opposed the Nationalist regime!

I thank you for your service, and it is my hope and prayer that you and your family will be blessed beyond measure. Governments do not make peace, it is everyday people like you who make peace.
30. #5 - you tell us. Love to know why they threw away 1999
William ,   Israel   (04.03.12)
when they had no restriction on movement, no checkpoints or security wall, when they were involved in cooperation projects with Israelis, had the fastest growing economy in the world, and were on the path to seeing their autonomous State.... then gave it all up to launch a massively failed intifada and commit horrific war crimes against civilians. No one in their right mind would give up such opportunities, unless they are inherently racist and refuse even a 2-State solution where Jews would continue to exist. Ha - we already know what it is because Arafat admitted it in front of a Muslim group in South Africa after the Oslo Accords, and the PLO again admitted their intifada was planned for years. So pound sand.
