1. Words fail to describe Friedmans perfidy & stupidity!!
tom ,   tel aviv   (04.04.12)
2. POOR MATH: ITS A 3-STATE, NOT A 2-STATE.
BUTSeriously ,   Australia   (04.04.12)
"It will be a historic compromise to grant two states in Palestine - one for the Jews and one for the Arabs" - Churchill. The first 2-state was the worst Post-W.W.II crime of all. Serial 2-states in the same land is cowardly, poor math - or worse, as with our modern day Dathans.
3. LaLa Land
Shimon ,   Poleg   (04.04.12)
Jews are being rocketed here on a daily basis by Islamic supremecist 'Palestinians' hell bent on the destruction of the Jews and this diaspora fool is talking about Singapore! Israel is fighting a war of survival against Islamic terror. The same supremecist anti-semitism that has taken power in Egypt, libya and soon the rest of the Arab world this guy is in LaLa land Can I get some of what this guy is smoking?
4. delusional
nadav ,   tlv   (04.04.12)
Friedman just lost what little credit he had. - He really thinks that a yet another artificially (European) created Arab failed state that has no roots or desire to be liberal democracy with respect for HUman/civil rights and is split into two opposing virulently militant camps (Fatah and Hamas) will turn into some sort of a Mideast Singapore?! - He is crazier than "Lady" Ashton! The only solution is turning Jordan into a democratic republic of all its people and having it divide the West Bank (where its disenfranchised citizens live) with Israel. that is a lasting peace!
5. Since when is Rock throwing non-violent? Geez!
Shadoil ,   Jerusalem   (04.04.12)
6. Perhaps peace with Friedman is possible
Daniel   (04.04.12)
7. Friedman tries to make apples fall upwards from apple-tree!
Jouko ,   Finland   (04.04.12)
Friedman's thoughts are delusional - there will never be a Palestinian state inside Israel (Judea and Galilea). That is just as impossible as trying to convert the gravitational law to make things fall upwards! Friedman is out of touch of reality like many other intellectuals trusting their weak intellect.
8. "Non-violence", in Arabic, includes of course the throwing..
Jehudah Ben-Israel ,   Qatzrin, Israel   (04.04.12)
...of rocks and fire bombs at pedestrians and motorists alike as well as law enforcement officers, when the intent is clearly to kill or at least maim the targeted person. Also, included in the concept of non-violence when spoken in Arabic the knifing of people and the use of axes against them. One is certain Mr. Friedman is aware of it, but, when such acts are directed against Jews, they appear more than acceptable for this NYT columnist, who claim not to be anti-Jewish racist....
9. Public Diplomacy
Mark of Lewiston ,   USA   (04.04.12)
It makes too much sense for the PA to engage in public diplomacy ala the Russians and US with nuclear arms. There, both sides made their positions public. Putting out a map would make the diplomacy public and and let the public on both sides know what their side was willing to do. It would also pressure the other side to actually come up with a real peace plan of some kind. Can't have that. It would cause right wingers heads on both sides to explode.
10. psychology of Friedman
E. G. Marsch ,   Nahariya, Israel   (04.04.12)
Infantile--confuses wishes with reality. Grandiose/narcissist--Thinks Israelis, just because some lefty Israeli newspaper editors make a big deal out of his columns, listen to him or give a hoot about what he says. Let alone Palestinians! "Thomas Friedman says we should make a Singapore--hmm, let's contemplate that!!" I only wish this third-rate huckster somehow hadn't gotten lucky and gotten a major gig as a columnist. Then, blessedly, no one would be aware of his infantile scribblings.
11. Friedman, cease boring us with "occupation"
FO ,   Belgium   (04.04.12)
Mr. Friedman, just a reminder: Shortly after the six-days war, a certain Eugene Rostow, Dean of the School of Law in Yale, wrote down a text, intended for the Security Council, that became UN Resolution 242. In short, what was the content of this resolution ? Well, in case of a peace settlement with its Arab neighbours, Israel will have to withdraw FROM occupied territories. Writing "From Occupied" Rostow, had in mind only the Sinai Desert that still was in Israeli hands, as he explained later in various articles, still available on Internet. Although the text didn't mention FROM ALL occupied territories, it has been accepted. Why ? Because of mere love for the State of Israel ? What legal basis had Rostow to write "From Territories" and not "From THE Territories". He had, I imagine to explain to all the members of the Security Council the legal arguments behind his text. And what were these legal arguments ? Well, the decisions voted unanimously by all the 51 members of the League of Nations, the 24th of July 1922. These decisions know under the name "The Mandate for Palestine" gave the Jews not only an embryo of a State, but also the IRREVOCABLE RIGHT to settle anywhere in the area between the Mediterranean Sea and the Jordan River, including the Golan Heights, a right unaltered in INTERNATIONAL LAW , valid to this day, and reaffirmed by the UNITED NATIONS thanks to Article 80 of its Charter. So Mr. Friedman, and all the others, stop falsifying historical facts !
12. Mr. Mahmoud Abbas gave Mr. Richard Goldstone a budge of...
JBI   (04.04.12)
...honor by referring to him as Mr. Richard Muhamad Goldstone for harnessing himself in the service of the Muslim-Arab fight against Israel. It is only a matter of time before Mr. Thomas Friedman will receive his budge of honor, Farid, from the head of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) and will be called by him Mr. Thomas Frarid Friedman. Mr. Friedman sure works hard to deserve this recognition by the Muslim-Arabs....
13. Almost thirty years ago...
R in Jerusalem ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (04.04.12)
I believed that if the Palestinians would shift to nonviolent resistance, we Israelis would be eager to deal with them. Having lived through those 30 years, and having witnessed the utter corruption of human values that Arafat, and now Hamas and Abbas, passed on as the Palestinian culture for almost three generations, I now no longer have faith in the Palestinian's capacity to reform themselves, to remove their lies from history and hatred and violence from from their lessons to their children. It saddens me that most of these children will never recover from the toxins they are taught from birth and will join the ranks imbued with hatred, a sense of victimhood and a furious bloodlust for the Jew, marching towards nowhere, let alone nationhood. Peaceful resistance? Halevai!
14. Sorry, Tom...your comparion to Singapore..
Mark ,   Lodz, Poland   (04.04.12)
stinks. The Singapore government has Zero tolerance to Jemaah Islamiyah and Abu Sayaf. These militant islamic organizations know what'll happen to them if they step out of line. Ever been to Singapore, Tom? Ask a Chinese taxi driver what he thinks of their Muslim population.
15. My Arab-Christian friend is more pro-Israel than Friedman.
Noodles ,   Coney Island   (04.04.12)
16. Thomas Friedman
Benny Roberts ,   Tel Aviv, Israel   (04.04.12)
Thomas Friedman should make Aliyah (I believe he is a Jew). Then, run for Knesset and wake up to reality. Until then, I will send him some more coolaid to keep washing his brains.
17. This time he really has been smoking something strong.
rebecca ,   Modiin   (04.04.12)
The Arabs have one of the best role models in the world in the area - Israel, easily an equal to Taiwan etc. A country that has cleared swamps, created industry, built modern cities and has a vibrant democracy. But they prefer death, poverty and stone and rocket throwing.
18. Peace yes suicide NO
AlbertoGA ,   St. George, USA   (04.04.12)
Tom, Dear Tom are you on KOOLAID ? ? ?
19. Peace is not a Piece of Paper
Ron ,   Melbourne, Australia   (04.04.12)
He mentions Egypt might change the treaty with Israel. This is the fundamental problem that no one is tackling. Every Arab Country and the PA is continuously inciting for many decades against Israel and Jews (against Jews is is actually longer). They indoctrinate children in kindergarten. What does it matter what piece of paper you sign or you if hatred is core to the mindset of the Arabs/Palestinians. It is not like the treat anyone else nicely - Shia kill Sunni, Sunni Kill Shia, they both attack Coptic Christians, black Muslims, Bhai's , Arab Marsh people, Kurds, etc, etc. How does this factor into Mr. Friedman's analysis - or those truth do not matter. What about Yegosliavia - remember under Tito peace - later massacres. Here there is no Tito - just pure hatred with not much to control. And you think having a state will hold them back ?? Really - is your knowledge of history so selective , so bad ?
20. Friedman's blabber
Igor ,   Germany   (04.04.12)
Arabs did and do have a role county to follow: A democratic, liberal, pluralistic, multi-ethnic, self-critical, secular, educated society with the rule of law, equal rights for all citizens and thriving economy. It has been in front of their noses for 64 years. But accepting that country as a model would mean accepting that there's something wrong with their own society. Why was it acceptable for Taiwan to follow Japan, but Arabs could not follow Israel? And whom did Japan and Israel follow and why?
21. Earth to Friedman. Palestinians reject Jewish state
Sam ,   Canada   (04.04.12)
Friedman makes the common mistake of leftists. They assume that peace is just a matter of finding the right plan leading to Jewish and Palestinian states. Wrong! Palestinians don't want a Jewish state. Ask them. Maybe then leftists will come down to reality rather than engaging in wishful thinking that results in stupidities like supporting boycotts of Israel.
22. Please stop referrng to friedman as
jason white ,   afula, israel   (04.04.12)
"Jewish" It is an insult to us Jews. I guess this article would be another pipe dream of friedman.
23. You have become as naive as Richard Goldstone
Joe ,   JHB, SA   (04.04.12)
24. No such thing as "Palestinians".
Jules   (04.04.12)
They are invaders from the Arab Peninsula.
25. Oh shut the F*** UP
Ralph (my guts out) ,   Israel   (04.04.12)
You sit in a cozy chair in a safe office building in NY. You have NEVER seen the eyes of a terrorist or the blood after a pagua. You have no business even talking about what happens in Israel. I can''t believe papers even print your CRAP.
26. Arabs non violence - I am rolling on the floor!
David ,   Karmiel, Israel   (04.04.12)
Is Tom Friedman is just another Jew hating Jews or just trying to appease the Islamists in the US? Obviously Tom Friedman is totally blind to to atrocities committed in tge name of Islam. Maybe he views 9/11, the Madrid, Bali, Nairobi and other bombings as "no-violent protest". No doubt he will say that the murderers of the Vogel family, the massacres of children in Ma'alot (Mahmoud Abbas' handiwork) the bus bombings and those in shopping malls, the Dolphinarium and the heinous crime 10 years ago on Seder Night at the Park Hotel as non violent! The real tragedy is that so many Jews in the enlightened Western World WILL not see the truth about Islam.
27. He is a living proof for a stoopid intelligent person.
Martin, Munich   (04.04.12)
28. More of his useless musings!
Jake Stone ,   USA   (04.04.12)
The only thing efficacious this punk needs is a good laxative every two hours, as prescribed by a doctor. Really, why would do they even give this useless idiot a forum to spout his anti-Semitic, rhetoric drivel? I guess, it's worthwhile to see what your traitorous enemy is thinking--but, still...this guy is so pathetically inept it's disgusting! Would someone, please, shoot this dumb-arse and put him out of his misery...and ours! Just maybe his own words will fall on him and crush his evil soul (doing us the favor)? Or maybe a car will back-fart a potato and nail'em right between his eyes. Oh, well...it's all just wishful thinking; at least my dark humor is better than his unenlightened musings. However, I'm still wishing for that lightening bolt, from God's beautiful heavens, to fry some sense into his liberal mind, but even that may be asking too much? I just saw today's weather report: sunny and clear skies--crap! Darn-it! Oh, well...off to work I go...with coffee in hand. Well, maybe tomorrow...it's always a new day?! God bless, Israel; praying for the peace of Jerusalem!
29. The problem is
It's me I'm back   (04.04.12)
If Israel agrees to internationally recognised borders it will mean the end of the Zionist dream of a Greater Israel with living space to the East. And the current crop of Israeli politicians is not ready to put an end to that particular dream. So a peaceful campaign of none co-operation in which the Jewish State continually reacts to peaceful protest with violence the current support of western politicians will disappear as it did for Apartheid South Africa Palestinians need to make support for Israel a vote loser not a vote winner and to d that they have to make Israelis lash out
30. Morals?!
Z.Z. Coltrane ,   USA   (04.04.12)
This guy wouldn't know a good moral if it bit him on his big-fat, unethical arse! Liberals usually think with the crap that comes out of their arse than what comes out of their SMALL minds. God'll judge this fool! God bless, Israel!
