1. the need for deterrence
Joe sombrero ,   USA   (04.05.12)
Like they are really going to believe Israel. for the past 10 years Israel has followed the policy of appeasement one-sided compromises and has completely lost Her deterrence. Appeasement causes war not peace. This is a perfect example.
2. Is this just words or for real?
Shep ,   Memphis, TN - USA   (04.05.12)
With all due respect, the Israelis have been saying that for years and it seems the deterrence has not been sufficient. Is this a ratcheting up of the deterrence, or just more of the same?
3. I like it
Maurice ,   Los Angeles, USA   (04.05.12)
Now let's see if the tough talk is followed by actions. This will be very important as Egypt is slipping away from the peace treaty. Deterrence can only be attained if the price extracted on the enemy is very high.
4. hahahaha
(04.05.12)
Gantz can better earn a living by working as a stand up comedian...
5. It looks and sounds like they mean it this time.
Israeli 2   (04.05.12)
6. Gandz is not Bibi
Nora Tel Aviv   (04.05.12)
Gandz`s change of tactics shouldn`t affect Netanyahu`s strategy. Is it the end of the containment period and the beginning of a three-front war ? It is not for Gandz to declare it.. We have a PM for that.
7. Is the end of the tit for tat game?
Cameron ,   USA   (04.05.12)
We'll see how heavy the response is on these groups. Certainly need to put a clamp on this weekly rocket & mortar routine out of Gaza. Put that sword to work.
8. Tough Jews
Terry Feld ,   Houston, Texas   (04.05.12)
That is the correct message to send. Jews are tough! Jews are ready, willing and able to defend the Jewish People. Never Again means we will get you and make you pay if you should be so foolish as to try to harm us!
9. War is inevitable
Mike ,   USA   (04.05.12)
I can understand Israel's ultimatum. Surely an attack from Gaza or Sinai will merit a response. But given all the exploding physicists in Iran, Israel's case against Iran is a bit murkier since Iran can claim it was retaliating to Israel. What Israel should claim - with justice - is that any attack from Iranian armed Hezbollah in Lebanon will be sufficient cause to attack Iran. I think Israel is just looking for a causus belli to attack Iran, no matter how weak. Given how nutty Iran is, I can't blame Israel, but the pretense is annoying.
10. Very close to what it should be
Yael Schlichting ,   Qiryat Motzkin   (04.05.12)
To those in Arab lands, who cannot follow I add, what Gantz couldn't say: If Iran orchestrates a strike against Israel, that requires a non-conventional response, you better hurry into your basements in all Arab capitals, because Israel cannot leave a bareness allow to be exploited by any of you!
11. SECURE BIG ISRAEL, BALANCE&BUFFER better than deterrence!!
Jerry ,   The Netherlands   (04.05.12)
12. They forgot one
GHook93 ,   Chicago   (04.05.12)
Any attack by weapons of mass destruction on any Israel city will result in a weapons of mass destruction on Mecca, Medina (Holiest Sites in Islam), Najaf, Karbalm (Holist sites in Shia Islam after Mecce and Medina), Tehran, Esfahan, Tabriz, Karaj, Shiraz, Alavaz, Qom, Kermanshah, Urmia and Zaheda (Top 10 largest Iranian cities)! Maybe toss in Cario, Damascus, Beruit and Amman in the cross-hairs also!
13. Please clarify for me,.......
Gideon Reader   (04.05.12)
...does that mean that their (Hamas's, Hezzboallah's, etc., etc.) UNOCCUPIED and UNUSED buildings and infrastructure; or against the actual POLITICAL, and OPERATIONAL ecchelons and will the level force used be overwhelming and of organisationally devestational proportions. Otherwise why go to the expense and effort. Chag Pesach to all.
14. Why isn't attacks from Lebanon will
Eyal ,   USA Israel   (04.05.12)
result in attack on Lebanon as a whole? I don't get it. I thought Hezbollah is the government of Lebanon? If it's on Hezbollah, than we are going back to pre-2006 Lebanon war. It should be Lebanon as a whole and not just try to get Hezbollah PERIOD. Enough of this, Hezbollah is Lebanon and Lebanon should be put out.
15. # 9 Mike
(04.05.12)
Casus
16. Nothing More ???.
Arn. ,   Sweden.   (04.05.12)
Is this all Israel hase learned the last more than 60 years ?. This is not something new !. If you dont exterminate your Enemies you have lerned nothing the last 60 Years, and the Conflict will go on and on and on. One can never win by deterence or Protection, only by Extermination. Arn.Sweden.
17. #6, it is the end of containment, however no war yet
Jake ,   USA   (04.05.12)
Gantz is laying the groundwork by letting the terrorist scum know who will pay the price for counter-attacking Israel.
18. TALK IS CHEAP
ZIMBI ,   NJUSA   (04.06.12)
19. why
E. G. Marsch ,   Nahariya, Israel   (04.06.12)
20. why Gantz is saying this
E. G. Marsch ,   Nahariya, Israel   (04.06.12)
If there's fire from Sinai, Israel can't strike back in Sinai itself; it's part of Egypt. So Gantz is saying this method of firing from Egyptian territory won't work either, because if so, we'll hit Hamas wherever we can (such as Gaza). It makes sense but is it only words? Considering how much, unfortunately, our leaders make tough threats without following through, a measure of skepticism is in order.
21. I salute chief Gantz.
Dov ,   Usa   (04.06.12)
22. just saying...
european   (04.06.12)
i see this as a desperate measure. clearly israel is unable to defend its citizens in the south, and clearly unwilling to invade the strip. so they would like their enemies to sort themselves out. that makes sense, however, this automatic guilty verdict and execution without trial might be frowned upon by the rest of the (democratic) world.
23. To: E. G. Marsch at No. 20
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (04.06.12)
Yes, the Sinai is part of Egypt. However, part of the peace treaty states that Egypt has an affirmative obligation to prevent terrorist groups from using the Sinai to attack Israel. If they cannot -- or will not -- police the Sinai properly, that constitutes a unilateral abrogation of the treaty, and then Israel can take whatever steps it deems necessary to secure the border. Egypt is in such complete disarray, there is not very much they can do except complain to the United Nations -- and the terms of the treaty are quite clear.
24. And if there are attacks from Sinai...
Ariel ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (04.06.12)
then the IDF will attack Egypt's terror network??
25. Walk the talk , Israel.
Nathan Rai ,   Bangalore   (04.06.12)
At last we have someone who loves Israel. Now walk the talk.
26. "...attack on Hamas"? Surely he jests.
Harry Wright ,   UK   (04.06.12)
Barak will order him to fire on EMPTY fields and nobody will deduct the cost of the ammunition from Barak's pay. Clowns they are, that's what.
27. The timing
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (04.06.12)
It is a warning to Iran. No matter what Israel may or may not do to Iran, a counterstrike upon Israel coming from Hamas, Hezbollah or any other terrorist group in the region will have extremely harsh consequences. Note also that Gantz warned against targeting Israelis abroad and Jews, generally. Presumably, everywhere -- that would include Teheran.
28. IT'S ABOUT TIME!
David ,   Montreal, Canada   (04.06.12)
29. Benny Gantz
howard banks ,   boca raton,fl /usa   (04.06.12)
I salute Benny Gantz,Israel has come a long way from David and his sling shot ,to missiles and nukes, today is a new chapter of still a young nation.
30. President Obama
howard banks ,   boca raton,fl/usa   (04.06.12)
We took two hits here and sent 500,000 men overseas,Israel has taken thousands of hits for over 60 years,it can't wait for a final hit.
