While the U.S. has Iran surrounded with military bases in Iraq and Afghanistan, the costs in both blood and money would be far too great. When I was a youngster, which was more than 80 years ago, if one kid made a promise to another, and there was a question as to the sincerity of the promiser, the promiser would be asked: "Cross your heart and hope to die?" I don't know how the Ayatollah would respond to "cross your heart?", but, since he has advocated martyrdom for Muslims, he would certainly agree to "hope to die". I'm sure that the Ayatollah's promise means as much to him as Obama's does to Obama. Having said that, I would not be in favor of accepting the Ayatollah's word for anything.
