It's fantastic President Obama does this tradition. Release from slavery is a common message for all and should be celebrated even today especially when Israelis have been enslaved by high taxes.

When Pres. Obama holds the celebratory Iftar meal at the White House after the mandatory day-time fast for Muslims during the Ramadan month, he invites a large number of Muslim dignitaries, functionaries and clergymen. It is held after dark in accordance with Islamic practice. It is an important outreach event. Why should he not do the same for the Jewish Passover seder? The Seder also must begin after dark (unless one is in a hospital or a nursing home) and perhaps, several rabbis & Jewish dignitaries should be invited if only to see that it is done properly, and not just White House staff & political friends. Otherwise, it really is a staged feel-good event and definitely not the real thing. Nice try, but why the genuine article for Muslims, who are mainly newcomers to the US, but only a model seder for Jews, who actually helped build the country & fought in all its wars? Better just to extend holiday greetings to Jews.
