1. norway?? really?
johnny ,   norway   (04.07.12)
i live in Norway and everyone is miserable as a person can be.. this country is so boring.. there is nothing to do in here.. who rank those things????
2. Apparantly
BH ,   Iowa   (04.08.12)
People in Israel thrown out of their homes for the crime of being born Jewish haven't been asked to participate in this poll. I would not be pleased.
3. How could anyone score the U.S.?
Michael ,   California, USA   (04.08.12)
People are so diverse here. The mix with immigrants is continuous, populations are varying all over the map. Some people are extremely happy, others miserable to the extreme. Unlike in Norway where everybody looks and acts the same, in the US everybody is different doing whatever suits them. Beats me.
4. is it really?
jushua ,   morocco   (04.08.12)
What must be said Why have I kept silent, held back so long, on something openly practiced in war games, at the end of which those of us who survive will at best be footnotes? It's the alleged right to a first strike that could destroy an Iranian people subjugated by a loudmouth and gathered in organized rallies, because an atom bomb may be being developed within his arc of power. Yet why do I hesitate to name that other land in which for years—although kept secret— a growing nuclear power has existed beyond supervision or verification, subject to no inspection of any kind? This general silence on the facts, before which my own silence has bowed, seems to me a troubling lie, and compels me toward a likely punishment the moment it's flouted: the verdict "Anti-semitism" falls easily. But now that my own country, brought in time after time for questioning about its own crimes, profound and beyond compare, is said to be the departure point, (on what is merely business, though easily declared an act of reparation) for yet another submarine equipped to transport nuclear warheads to Israel, where not a single atom bomb has yet been proved to exist, with fear alone the only evidence, I'll say what must be said. But why have I kept silent till now? Because I thought my own origins, Tarnished by a stain that can never be removed, meant I could not expect Israel, a land to which I am, and always will be, attached, to accept this open declaration of the truth. Why only now, grown old, and with what ink remains, do I say: Israel's atomic power endangers an already fragile world peace? Because what must be said may be too late tomorrow; and because—burdend enough as Germans— we may be providing material for a crime that is foreseeable, so that our complicity wil not be expunged by any of the usual excuses. And granted: I've broken my silence because I'm sick of the West's hypocrisy; and I hope too that many may be freed from their silence, may demand that those responsible for the open danger we face renounce the use of force, may insist that the governments of both Iran and Israel allow an international authority free and open inspection of the nuclear potential and capability of both. No other course offers help to Israelis and Palestinians alike, to all those living side by side in emnity in this region occupied by illusions, and ultimately, to all of us. --Günter Grass Translated by Breon Mitchell
5. 1 Johnny, Norway: Sounds like you need to read
Rivkah   (04.08.12)
The Scriptures from South Africa and C.J. Koster's book "Come Out of Her My People" to get to know HaShem since you need to indwelt Ruach HaKodesh to be happy. Boring means your senses are not activated by the Holy Spirit which enables you to perceive beauty where there was no perception of that before in ways you cannot imagine. You are living outside HaShem's camp to be bored. Read the Holy Scriptures daily to feed the spirit in you. That is food for the soul and is more important than food for the body.
6. happiness rating times two
allie ,   Redlands, CA   (04.08.12)
In the title of the article you say it ranks 14th. In the body of the article you say it rates 7th, which is it??
7. Expectations
Zyx ,   US   (04.08.12)
....all depends on the expectations. The lower the expectations, the happier the people. Another stupid and useless ranking.
8. #1 Hey Johnny
HaifaGuy   (04.08.12)
C'mon man, you're probably just having a bad day. Despite severe vitamin D deprivation, Norway must still be a pretty pleasant place to live, n'est pas? Scandinavia, @least from afar, is a strawberry cheese cake, albeit with some mold beginning to form around the edges... But seriously, cynicism aside, I think you gotta appreciate what you have and what you have is a beautiful country! Remember what Royksopp said: "We're happy up here!" BTW, a country that has produced an amazingly brilliant band such as Royksopp cannot be bad. And i didn't even mention A-Ha.
9. The Netherlands that high??? Really???
Sharon ,   Netherlands   (04.08.12)
Weird... I wonder... cause people are pretty worried with the higher payments, bills, and less health care, education... 13% more people to food banks in the past 4 months... Yeah we are reaaaaaallllyyy happyyyyy! NOT!
10. #1
Johs ,   Norway   (04.08.12)
I also live in Norway, and I do not recognize what Jonny describes. I guess one problem is that some (many...) are too spoiled here.... They do not understand how lucky they are to live here. It is a safe place. Most people in Norway have a good life and are happy. At least people that travelled a bit and can compare Norway with other countries. There is also a guy here from US that believes Norwegians are one homogeneous group...please come and visit us - I believe you will see that you are not quite right... But like in all countries, we also have bad things here...like our socialistic government that do not like Israel very much... But next year we have election, hopefully that will be fixed then... Have a great day everybody!
11. Indeed, one is very happy to live in Israel, the national...
Jehudah Ben-Israel ,   Qatzrin, Israel   (04.08.12)
...home of the Jewish people and the cradle of Jewish civilization of Judaism. One is only eager to enhance this sense of happiness by ensuring that more brother and sister Jews ascend to reside with us in our ancestral homeland, and the Muslim-Arab world to finally agree to live peacefully - if not in "peace" - with the nation-state of the Jewish people, Israel. Sadly, to date they have not even accepted our right to be here.
12. Canada should be no 1
Gill ,   New york. USA   (04.08.12)
13. CUT THE B******T. STUPID SURVEYS
One   (04.08.12)
this is such a propogandic way to keep the sheep in place. IF YOU'RE NOT A SHEEP GET OUT TO THE STREETS AND FIGHT FOR YOUR RIGHTS
14. NOT 13 ?
mag ,   eu   (04.08.12)
15. at 9
Gabriel ,   Leiden, Netherlands   (04.08.12)
And we Dutch are also known for endless complaining and our inability to be satisfied with what we have, pampered as we are.
16. Israeli reality upsets Israel haters.Good!
PETER SM ,   AUSTRALIA   (04.08.12)
17. Gill #12 - Canada is #5 on the list
Maurice ,   Montreal   (04.09.12)
Quite a respectable place...eh?
18. Mental freedom
Ironmistress ,   Finland   (04.12.12)
Perhaps me and my family really should convert to Judaism and make aliyah. Mental and spiritual freedom is far more precious a thing than physical freedom. If in Israel I could say what I want, write what I want and think what I want instead of living in constant fear of being persecuted by politically correct Liberal Fascist thought police, being compelled to follow the kashrut and living in physical fear of terrorism would be a plausible price to pay. The Scandinavian countries are falling into anarcho-tyranny - anarchy and licentiousness for the criminals and tyranny by the state for the law-abiding good citizens - and I am not amused. One day we will hoist the sails and leave for the oceans. Whether we'll return to Finland is another matter.
