1. Main reason wars stop
sk ,   USA   (04.12.12)
As an alternative to consider, and a main reason why wars stop is that one or both sides' casualties reach an unacceptable number. Suggest this be considered in a future wave of terrorist attacks against Israeli citizens.
2. Credit
michael Pielet ,   israel   (04.12.12)
FUAD is taking credit, credit that he sharon and mofaz do not deserve. Why did they wait so long to strike the terrorists. The terror started in 2000 after Barak and camp David. Why wait two years to have thousands killed and maimed. Of course Arafat was behind the terror. But sharon, fuad decided to give him a free pass. All for a phoney peace process. Even when the army was sent in Fuad because he was afraid of U.S. objections forced the army to operate under conditions that led to the unnecessary deaths of many soldiers. Fuad refused to give the soldiers the necessary time they needed to carefully prepare for a planned assault against the terrorists, instead a hurried not well planned aasault that resulted in unnecessary deaths of our soldiers. Fuad, a failed defense minister. Sharon a failed prime minister.
3. Moshe Yaalon
Fad Egypt   (04.12.12)
he was the commander of the central command , who was responsible for that operation why Ben Eliazer didnt mention him or mention his role in that great operation ??!!! anyway , it was a great operation i remember it very well , it helped to decrease terror attacks by a large margin thanks to the IDF and the wise israel leadership which israel lacked during lebanon and gaza wars shalom

the perpetual summary holds fast (even if most of you think it is cynical, it is real) the summary is: They tried to destroy us, they failed, make a blessing, lets eat! Basically despite it all we are still here
8. BEN ELIEZER AND TERROR
alexi   (04.12.12)
You note that ben eliezer did not say barak could make good decisions against terrror since he flopped against terror when he was PM Ben eliezer was a lousy defence minister who reacted only at the endd and many israeli casualites occurred.

10. "Restraint is strength" and "There is no military solution"
Raymond in DC ,   Washington, USA   (04.12.12)
For almost two years, these two mantras guided much of Israeli policy. The first is clearly Orwellian, and it's to Sharon's discredit that he ever promoted such a notion. The second was the meme of Israel's intellectual elite - and, as is usually the case, without foundation and ultimately proven false. It's unfortunate that almost 1,000 Israelis were killed and many more wounded before the powers that be set aside that restraint - which no "normal" state would have maintained - and responded. Yet even today Ben Eliezer maintains how important it was not to harm the "symbols" of the Palestinian people, even to preserve the illusion of the PA (headed by Arafat) as legitimate and a peace partner. I've long wondered how things might have played out if, with Arafat and his terror partners (and human shields) gathered in the rump Muqata, an "errant" shell had leveled the building. To Bush, Israel could have said "Oops!", while the Palestinians would have gotten the message that Israel would do whatever was necessary, and it was best not to mess with them.
11. "My reasoning was that we should employ an iron fist against
Jake ,   USA   (04.12.12)
..the terrorists but not harm the symbols of the Palestinian people." With all due respect to MK Ben-Eliezer, that was a colossal mistake. The Oslo accords gave legitimacy to the PA, and the 2nd intifada nullified that legitimacy.
12.  it was a good operation thanks to our army

The British army had gone in and taken out the terrorist scum that perpetrated the King David Hotel massacre things would have been very different.

16. With did not end the terror since our enemy live with us
E,M Jordan is Pales ,   SF   (04.12.12)
Wakeup they are millions of those fanatic’s Arabs who are living in side of Israel and they are like volcanism that any time will erupts and there is only one solution to make end to that kind of terror attacked, two state for two nation Jordan for Arabs and Israel for Jews, Happy Passover
17. End to terror ?!
yosef yankelev, Phd ,   USA   (04.12.12)
WHAT END TO TERROR ???!!! There seems to be NO END to self - congratulations for botched, half assed "plans" - considering ABOVE ALL the opinions of what the USA and Europe would say ?!?!?! Rather than lives and safety of Jewish soldiers and civilians! For years and years this cowardly leadership paralized its own great army - Spit the generals in the face and they would say: what a nice rain.... 1967 days are gone forever.
18. Ha Ha #14
Vlad   (04.12.12)
You tried everything you could. You were even more hard on the Jews than Israel is on Palestinian terrrorists. And you still couldn't do it. Oh, and the King David Hotel was British Army HQ for Palestine. It was a legitimate target.

20. IF ONLY the British army had stayed home in the first place
Al Levy ,   Toronto   (04.12.12)
Gee, John #14 - what was the British army doing in the holy land in the first place? You Brits thought the world belonged to you, and you spent hundreds of years building your empire and raping and pillaging countries around the world. Israel is the national homeland of the Jewish people, and the British army was a foreign occupier. The war crimes committed by you Brits are well documented. If only the Brits had gone home after WW1 and left the middle east alone, things would have been very different and most likely a lot better. But no, you Brits really mucked things up carving up land for your pet sheikhs, and making sure you could suck the petroleum out of the Arab lands. So here we are almost 100 years later, and you Brits are still loving your Arab dictators and sucking the oil out from under them, all the while pretending that you are civilized and democratic. Well, John, the only democracy in the middle east is Israel - and your precious buddies, the Arab dictators, have screwed over their people for 100 years while you Brits sat smug in jolly old England.
21. STILL LOOKING FOR THAT STRAW IN THE EYE OF OTHERS AND
sick mind ,   from mental hospital   (04.12.12)
NOT SEE THE BEAM THAT IS IN YOUR EYES?
22. #10
EZ   (04.12.12)
Actually, what happened was that the IDF went into Arafat's barracks took his papers and found his signature on financial orders used to buy equipment for the bombings. This completely discredited him at the peace table and brought about Bush's letter to Sharon that said that the 1967 lines are not realistic. Therefore, the Palestinians (those who are paying attention anyway) saw that they have something tangible to lose by terrorism.
23. John @14, no doubt Brits would if they only could.
leo ,   usa   (04.12.12)

25. To #14
Maurice ,   Los Angeles, USA   (04.13.12)
If only the Brits had obeyed by the mandate as they were supposed to, there would not be war in the middle east today. The Brits are greatly responsible for today's mess. But they are being punished, the UK is becoming a Muslim country. Poetic justice.
26. "this time it will not pass silently"
Yisraeli   (04.13.12)
Ben Eliezer always was and still is a buffoon. These so called leaders of ours have much jewish blood on their hand by protecting our enemies while sacrificing our soldiers to protect them. Simply because they cant admit to their foolishness of Oslo. They have nothing to be proud of, they should all hang their heads in collective shame.
27. #14 - they were too busy appeasing the Arab scum
William ,   Israel   (04.13.12)
Do you really think the British Empire could take down all of the Jews? Not even when a British commander led the Jordanian attack against them in 1948.
28. unfortunately terror has NOT been defeated
CHAIM .S 54ST ,   BROOKLYN NY   (04.13.12)
these leftist cowards are delusional, what is this idiot talking about? since then thousands of rockets have rained on Israel, just recently over a million jews had to take shelter to protect them from the hundreds of rockets coming from Gaza, tens of thousands of children had to have their schools cancelled, all because this criminaly insane leftist cowardly government refuses to do what is necessary to protect their country and it's citizens

30. Now imagine a West Bank that Israel can not enter or control
Conclusion.... ,   Israel   (04.13.12)
My point exactly. The very thought of giving the heart and soul of Israel over to such people is complete INSANITY.
