1. THANKS TO SULEIMAN
marcelo tuchman ,   RIO,BRAZIL   (04.13.12)
IF EGYPT CHOOSE A RADICAL, AND NO SULEIMAN, THE TERRORISTS WILL START A NEW WAR WITH ISRAEL. ISRAEL WIN 60 YEARS AGO, IMAGINE WHAT COULD HAPPEN TODAY? BYE BYE SINAI.
2. The Brotherhood
Syd Chaden ,   Palermo Calif USA   (04.13.12)
Obama and Clinton must be proud of their Brotherhood buddies.
3. Egypt is a distant country like Morocco.
Istvan ,   BUDAPEST HUNGARY   (04.13.12)
Every pupils in the world knows that "Egypt is the present of the Nile" Its historical and natural borders was at the Wadi el Arish. There was a large seray and a toll office where the caravans paid tolls in or out of Egypt. It was the system from the 1. pharao dinasty until the end of XIX century CE. Then came the british and agreed with Wilhelm II and the ottoman porta to invent the present boundary between Israel and Egypt. In the Sinai a new bedouin state must be founded, together with the Gaza arabs, and after it totally irrelevant for Israel what happens in Egypt.
4. The muzlum bros will destroy egypt 100%, mubark only 50%.
Bunnie Meyer ,   Los Angeles, CA USA   (04.13.12)
5. Actually Egypt is safe with Suleiman, but who cares about
leo ,   usa   (04.13.12)
that if Israel is safe with Suleiman.
6. Land for a piece of paper...and peace.
solomon ,   bklyn   (04.13.12)
When some people in Israel complain that the treaty with Egypt was fallible as Egypt may abrogate the treaty but not give back the Sinai, some observe that many lives have probably been saved as Israel has not been at war all this time. The same could be said from the Egyptian side. But Islamists only utter slogans that are ‘convenient’ at that moment.
7. Itching for a Fight
M Carr ,   Baltimore, USA   (04.13.12)
Since their revolution the Egyptians appear obsessed with the desire to confront Israel. The Egyptians, however, are not monolithic and sizeable portions of their population are not Muslim. I see the banning of Suleiman from the election as the opening salvo in a possible civil war scenario between the more secular and educated Egyptians and the Radical Muslims itching for a fight with Israel. The Egyptians would be wise to make note of the recent events in Libya and the present chaos in Syria as what may be in store for them.
8. Why is Suleiman even running??
Gunnar ,   Gothenburg, Sweden   (04.13.12)
If the presidential election is free and fair, he'll recieve less than 1% and that's an embarrassment. If he wins, or gets a good result, everybody knows that he's been cheating and that the election is fraudulent. That is also en embarrassment.!!! Suleiman can only end up damaging his own reputation even more.
9. israel cannot handle itself
alesi   (04.13.12)
israel wants good relations with egypt and all of its neighbours. The era of olmert and livni and cowering is over. israel can take care of itself and any provocations by egypt or breakiing of the treaty will be dealt with. israel gave up the whole of sinai for egyptian promises. and israel can equalize the populatio difference so islamic parties should be careful with their words.
10. Israel Needs to Re-Think Its Deterrence
Noah Lev ,   LosAngelesUSA   (04.13.12)
As an inducement to sign a peace treaty with Israel, the US started giving Egypt 1.5b year. Israel lost the Sinai oil fields it developed..AND SEVERAL major airforce and army fortifications. It gained 32 years of relative calm, even though the peace was "ice cold". Israelis were retricted in Egypt, its envoy regularly told to leave when a dispute involving the Pales, etc. Azam, Azam, was found guilty of sending industrial secrets on underwear to Israel, as I recall. The Sinai has heated up since the Spring, and Egyptian troops are gradually moving numbers to the border. Where this will lead no one knows? The area is dysfunctional and unpredictable. But, the Islamists have taken over the parliament...( contrary to the rhetoric during the square protests). They have hijacked the country..and getting the army out will mean total control over everything. To Israel: another division or two is needed on your border. Seal the border finally. If need be, send a brigade into Gaza at Rafah. And use a few mjissile loaded with nukes, just in case Egypt goes bonkers. The Nile River is a great target...if worse comes to worse. To the USA: stop charity to the Egyptians if democracy is not a reality, they break the treaty, or prepare for war. Stop supplying parts for their F16sand Abrams Tanks, which number in the hundreds.
11. stupid people
Fad Egypt   (04.13.12)
Israel is safe whether Suleiman is the president or not because Suleiman has nothing to do with this also we dont choose our president according to the damn fakestinians , we elect our president according to our needs anyway Israel is safe because it is God who protects it not any body not even because of Netanyahu or Barak yes to Suleiman as the president and lets the islamists and the haters go to hell !!!!!!!! shalom
12. Israel is in dire need for the treaty
observer ,   Egypt   (04.13.12)
What does Israel lose if Egypt annuls the treaty is the free passage in Suez Canal and Tiran straits, both are sovereign Egypt's territories.
13. explaining democratic elections to these morons
tiki ,   belgium   (04.13.12)
I can understand the Islamists, but the "secular reformists? Is their hate for Israel more important than a free & democratic future for themselves? Havn't they still not learned that their hate for Israel won't provide them with jobs or cheaper food prices. I think that any tribe in the bushes of Africa has more brain & common sence than these 'reformists, who don't want to reform anything it seems. What a sad bunch.
14. Welcome to middle age
Gallula ,   Paris   (04.13.12)
Cut the us funds and leave them with their qoran, burqa and beards May be Allah will give them them excellent life conditions (;
15. Only RETURN of Sinai (ASAP) can create BALANCE with Egypt.

16. Egyptians want to confront Israel until their Aswan Dam is
GZLives   (04.13.12)
crumbling from the Israeli Cruise Missiles that just slammed into it
17. Suleiman's Candidacy
ltrail ,   United States   (04.13.12)
Reuters wrote, "Both Islamists and secular reformists view it as a threat to democratic reform" That is a laughing stock point of view. The islamists are certainly not after a democratic reform. They want an islamic state for Egypt. So very, very funny for them to claim that view.
18. WHAT CENTURY ISTHIS FROM?
טוביאס ,   Sweden   (04.13.12)

but israel has Eilat and Haifa, egypt not required.
22. observer
aaron ,   sweden   (04.13.12)
Hey observer pull your head out of your ass, closing the straits of Tiran would lead to Egypt getting their asses handed to them again not to mention that it's illegal.
23. #12 “observer”
solomon ,   bklyn   (04.13.12)
The Sinai was never recognized as part of Egypt. If they ever became sovereign it was only due to the peace treaty with Israel. If the treaty is annulled, agreements within it are annulled, and the Sinai should be returned to Israel. You really are blind, aren’t you?
24. who loses by breaching the treaty
observer ,   Egypt   (04.13.12)
Let's see if Israel would risk bombing the High Dam with nukes, if Egypt opted to strike Dimona which is already on the list of targets by medium- and long-rang rockets. In the peace treaty, Israel did not deny nor prevent Egypt's right in Umm Erashrash (Eilat), nor any other Egyptian land or right.
25. Relevant indeed for Israel Egypt's elections
ANGI ,   ISRAEL   (04.13.12)
How easy it is to share somebody's else country between bedouins and palestinians!!!!!!! It is absolutly incorrect your last statement that it is irelevant for israel what happens in Egypt. Do you follow the news? I recommend you to start by MEMRI.
26. #12 YOU CAN'T DEFEND A PIPELINE
Iranian Jew ,   LA   (04.14.12)
on your own soil. How the hell are you going to attack Israel? Talk is cheap. You send one rocket and you will be observing your behind back to the pyramid era. Stop embarrassing yourself, pal!
27. # 12 Biased observer !
J.K. ,   Brooklyn USA   (04.14.12)
If you close the Suez canal and the Tiran straits, thats an act of war,and remember, wars never end the way the war was planned to end, remember what happened when Egypt closed the straits tiran for Israel ?.what is the reason for Egypts hostility toward Israel ?.it's not the palestinans, you hate the palestinians more than you hate Jews,Israel returned to Egypt the entire Sinai,so whats the reason for the hatred, antismitism or jealousy ?.
28. #11 God does not say so
observer ,   Egypt   (04.14.12)
