1. Funny...I experienced jew-hatred just today and I see that
a french jew's exper ,   paris   (04.16.12)
article... I can tell you from my own experience. I love France. But too many of french harbor anti-semitic feelings. It is so deeply entrenched in the french culture that it will probably never be removed. ever. Anti-semitism is like a cancer. Even today, someone told me: Jews have no right whatsoever to palestine. She said 'no one wants jew' so europeans send them to 'Africa' or Panama. + jews have no 'connection to the land of Israel' and were sent there by europeans. She gave me as example the exodus (bound for her to...Panama!)... I was stunned.... I couldnt beleive my eyes... but it made me remebered that I swa it even with a brother of one of my bestfriend... Jew hatred is too deep in France...

Europe is like the cowardly kid at school, bullied by its new "immigrants" (Invaders). Like all cowards it despises the one that stands up to the bully. Others' bravery and honesty and successful resistance reflect negatively back upon them. "Don't the Jews know we of the West are weak and wish to be left to our depraved culture? Don't they know that they too should be self-loathing? How dare they not be!?"
3. Who is worse?
israel israeli ,   tel aviv   (04.16.12)
A European who reads the "news" that portrays the Jews as evil people when they try to defend themselves? A Jewish Israelis who writes the news the European reads? A Israeli Prime Minister who sacrifices an IDF officer for defending himself against violent attack?
4. I've never personally heard anyone say that Israel would be
me ,   here   (04.16.12)
illegitimate in the Middle East! What many people do say is that Israel uses excessive force when dealing with the problems in Gaza and the West Bank, and this is mostly because they are uninformed about the real situation on the ground - media hardly ever report the effects on the Israeli side when rockets from Gaza hits it... But pulling it so far that "Europeans" find Israel's existens illegitimate is to go too far, The article needs to be more nuanced.
5. Not true!
Gunnar ,   Gothenburg, Sweden   (04.16.12)
The number of Europeans that "hate" Israel are extremely few, probably fewer than the Jews that take part in "A world without Zionism" conference in Teheran. Most Europeans do however question why the settlers, who are in a minority, are allowed to set the agenda for the whole country. There would be criticism also if the KKK set the US agenda and demanded to take over Mexico and then be allowed to reside there.
6. The Europeans have been at our throats for 2,000 years

The Europeans have been at our throats for 2,000 years.

When will racist bilge stop pouring out of Germany?
11. The absurdity of Israel taking advice from the E.U..
Chaim ,   Israel   (04.16.12)
Meotti is right on target, like usual. This article says a great deal about Europe's continuing 2,000 year old hate affair with Jews. However, what is doesn't say may be even more compelling. It doesn't say anything about the utter absurdity of Israel taking advice from the E.U. on "peace", Iran and other important matters. However, it certainly illustrates this absurd situation.

The more things change, the more they remain the same.
13. #9 Horst, Hollywood and Europe indeed
Isac   (04.16.12)
are currently the worst enemies of Israel in the "modern world." On the other hand, the majority of Americans are very pro-Israel, and no Eskimos will not be on the list, yet! As per the last poll conducted in the U.S., 72% of the American population are pro Israel and 21% pro Palestinians. I know with certainty, that the same poll would in Germany exactly the opposite. So far in regards for the Jews being liked by the Germans. I guess certain things will never change.
14. European Antisemitism can be summed up
J.K. ,   Brooklyn USA   (04.16.12)
in one sentence, during the Dreyfus affair a french woman said: i hope he is innocent,so,he will suffer more.
15. Meotti is a rarity in Western journalism

16. I am German and not anti-semitic at all!!!
Lena ,   Germany   (04.16.12)
I am German and I am not anti-semitic at all. I feel bad about what happened in the past to Jews in Europe and I do support Israel because that is were Jews belong but I do hope that in the future Israelis and Palestinians will work it out somehow. I support both, Israel has a great culture and I adore how hard working Israelis are. Good luck and please don't always write in articles like this one that all Europeans are anti semitic, there might be some uneducated Europeans who are jealous of Jews but not all of the over 500 million Europeans are anti-semitic. I sort of feel responsible for Palestinians because of what happened in the past, innocent Jews were killed, expelled and forced to migrate. However like I said before, I feel responsible for Israel and Palestinia.
17. # 9...very good question...!!! TATA

18. Israel
Judy ,   st. louis usa   (04.16.12)
Most people in America are not anti-semetic but they are called that if they support America before Isarel, so people are really sick of Israel.
19. UK media is anti-Israel
Richard Mather ,   Manchester, UK   (04.16.12)
Unfortunately, I think this article is correct in its assumptions about Europeans. As a Brit, I've first-hand experience of the attitude of the UK media towards Israel. The BBC, the Guardian and the Independent are all examples of mainstream media outlets that single out Israel for unfair criticism. I suspect the media and the political climate in mainland Europe are even worse.
20. Kissinger Is Right
Chester ,   Miami, Fl   (04.16.12)
"any people who have been persecuted for two thousand years must be doing something wrong" Walter Isaacson, Kissinger: a Biography (Simon & Schuster, Inc., New York, and Faber & Faber Ltd, London1992) page 561
21. #20 -- Ethics
Alfredo ,   Raanana   (04.16.12)
Yes most of us, unlike Kissinger, still uphold the ethics we brought into this world over 3,500 yrs ago and since then the world has never forgiven us ....
22. To: No. 20
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (04.16.12)
Like what? The endless contributions that the Jewish people have made to civilization and humanity, despite millennia of persecution? How about all the advancements in the sciences? Philosophy? Mathematics? Medicine? Music and the Arts? The only thing that the Jewish people did wrong was to share these advancements with you ungrateful wretches. Imagine if we never contracted polio, but all the rest of you did. Now, that would be wrong -- but what gratitude do we get for having put an end to the scourge that was polio? You are disgusting. Jews were here when you people first showed your ugly face -- and we will be here when you disappear, just as we have seen the ancient Egyptians, the Sumerians, the Babylonians, the Akkadians, the Edomites, the Amalekites, the Hittites, the Canaanites, the Seleucid Greeks, the Assyrians and the Romans -- to name but a few -- disappear into the sands of time.
23. #20, You Are Right
Mike L. ,   Oakland, CA   (04.16.12)
You claim, essentially, that the Jews bring on their own persecution. Does this mean that black people brought on their own slavery? Does this mean that the Native American population in the United States brought on its own genocide? Racists always blame their victims for their own racism. That's the very nature of what racism is. 24. Jumping to conclusions?
StevieT ,   USA   (04.16.12)
While Mr. Meotti may be correct in the fact that a great many Europeans question Israels right to exist, from the polls I have seen, they seem to be in the minority. As for his statement - "A similar survey about Toulouse would find the Muslim perpetrator as the real victim and the victims as the real murderers" - this seems to be quite a leap in logic unless he would conduct a 'Muslim only' survey. What Israel needs to realize is that she is now a Nation and that all Nations are judged on their overall conduct. Israel cannot expect to draw a pass when her acts are not considered to be kosher by normal Western standards. Don't read too much into this, it is what it is.
25. to #20 Kissenger was wrong.
StevieT ,   USA   (04.16.12)
ANY people forced to live as a minority in other ethnically pure lands would be discriminated against. It is just the way people are, looking for someone else to look down on.
26. #20 - Kissinger
DB ,   New York, NY   (04.16.12)
Or maybe the Jews have always done something unbelievably right... things the world has never been able to achieve ... and the the rest of the world is just jealous! No group of people on earth has ever achieved what the Jews have and so out or proportion to their number!
27. #7 What are you doing in Haifa then ?
Yossef   (04.16.12)
28. The irony is that Europe is being taken over by Muslims
Scott ,   Ramat Gan, Israel   (04.16.12)
The European ant-semites will soon long for the days when the Jews were their biggest problem. Unchecked illegal & legal Muslim immigration combined with much higher birthrates & declining European birthrates will make Christians a minority in many European countries by the end of the century
29. at 20:
Gabriel ,   Leiden, Netherlands   (04.16.12)
First, I mistakenly actually recommended your farce of a talkback, while I was under the impression of hitting the 'ad talkback' link. Sorry people! Paying attention to what you do sometimes helps. Second, Kissinger, like yourself, was an embarrasment to humanity. Persecution rarely reflects on the victim in modern-day society. An exeption is, however, generally being taken if said victim is Jewish....
30. #16 DEAR LENA ,
LAWRENCE ,   SAFED OPERA HOUSE   (04.16.12)
You may not ,as you say ,be antisemitic although I have my doubts. We jews are NOT here in Israel because we were " forced to emigrate " because nobody " forced " me to be here. We are here because this is ,has always been and will always be our land , just read a bible. There is no such place as Palestine .This is THE LAND OF ISRAEL.
