Yisraeli   (04.17.12)
Typical, todays IDF run by virtual generals on theyre plasma screens. Eisner committed the worst sin of all because he appeared not PC on plasmas. WTG, give aid and comfort to our enemies......so whats new? God help us in the next war because we will need it with our lame pussy brass and spineless politicians.
2. Again...being cruel to our friends,
ORA ,   JERUSALEM   (04.17.12)
to please our enemies. Sad.
3. A BEAR HUG for Eisner !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Chris Rettenmoser ,   Bayerisch Gmain Germ   (04.17.12)
4. eisner was effective but not wise
mohson   (04.17.12)
considering the provocation of arab european activists, the rifle butt scared the activists but wasnot the best idea since the cameras were rolling. IDF was vastly outnumbered so fear took over.mace or pepper spray would be a better idea. zEisenr has a good record and should be reeducated and reassigned but not removed. You want olmert or a shalit to replace a hardened soldier??!!
5. Who got fooled?
Tzefanyah ,   Atlanta, USA   (04.17.12)
I'm confused. If Eisner fell into a trap, why is the government even considering punishment? Why would the army give up a good officer if they know it was a set-up and it wasn't his fult? Isn't the Army falling for the trick, if they dismiss soldiers, one-at-a-time? It's like losing their army without the enemy having to fire a single shot. Who is the fool?
6. Of course if he had hit a settler
Jewish Patriot ,   Galut   (04.17.12)
Of course if he had hit a settler he would not get dismissed. But Israel is not a Jewish state. I learnt it on my own.
7. there is not anything good unpunished
Borislava ,   Sofia, Bulgaria   (04.17.12)
Eisner is the smallest problem of Copenhagen, Turkey, UN, Middle East and even of the world. But for Israel is very important - a defender. Be sure, even to decapitate Eisner, always will find "activists" ready to hate Israel. What irritates me is how being abused by this unhappy history, and for what purposes is inflated. At the same time in the world are happening much more dangerous crimes and victims are thousands.
8. You mean if victim was an Arab
Rami of Nazareth ,   Israel   (04.17.12)
What eisner did was unprovoked and uncalled for. Had victim been a settler, no arms whould have been present. We all know IDF instructions are different when jews are involdved.
9. Love you Eisy Baby...... Kol ha Kavod!!!!!!
Devorah ,   Israel   (04.17.12)
Not only is the man a brave, self-respecting Jew and hero... he is being punished for being a religious Jew who was ordered to do the job of the POLICE... the IDF isn't trained for this. Barack: YOU ARE TO BLAME. Stop using our good guys to do your dirty work!!!!!!!!!
10. #8 - Arab violence is constantly apologized for by the court
William ,   Israel   (04.17.12)
Leftists claim Arabs are just frustrated. Arabs claim its their "human right" to act violently. Arab MKs travel the globe acting AGAINST Israel and its 7 million citizens. Arabs and Leftist see no problem with an Arab-only city but do see a problem with a Jew-majority city. Rami - I see it constantly. Arabs are given some affirmative action treatment and still claim inequality, while affirmative action itself is a racist policy! I've asked dozens of times of you, without answer - exactly WHAT discrimination have you seen by the State, by Jews, against You and Israeli Arabs? I work, live, play, get healthy, and learn surrounded by intelligent Arabs with the same opportunities and rights I have. Besides my having mandatory army service and taxation, where is the discrimination?
11. What if
JonC ,   Sydney   (04.17.12)
What would the Danes say if Israeli's turned up in Denmark to violently demonstrate against the policies of the Danish government? How dare they take offence at one of their own people being hit when he was so aggressively breaking Israeli law.
12. The question the government needs to answer
Tracy W   (04.17.12)
Why aren't unruly foreigners automatically arrested? By simply joining violent protests foreigners are BREAKING THE LAW. Leftist/Arab riots have been taking place like clockwork at Nabi Saleh, and prior to that at Bi'ilin. Many of the participants are foreigners. Police are ordered not to make arrests or shoot or do anything that might injure rioters, but to simply try to disperse them. And many of the rioters are foreigners! There are rules for visitors to Israel. One of them is not to engage in violence. Simple. But this and past governments have regarded leftist protestors as helpful in pushing the partition agenda with their propaganda and harassment of settlers - so police and IDF are told to go easy on them. The government itself is guilty of not enforcing the law. Foreigners who engage in violent acts against the forces of order need to be arrested and charged. Then they need to be fined and incarcerated, and placed on a visitors' black list. ~~~~~~~~~~ The author's point that police/IDF abuse against settlers goes unpunished is an excellent one, and should also be dealt with by the government and courts. ============================ The country cannot have two sets of procedures for dealing with Israeli citizens depending on what part of the country they live in - and what kind of politics they support. When Arabs and leftists riot pelting police with rocks, then the orders are to disperse them. But if a peaceful settler just happens to be hanging around, then police and IDF have carte blanche to do as they please with him. The situation has become so BIZARRE that Jews are afraid to call police when they are attacked by Arabs because the police often arrests the Jewish victims. All police need is some Arab to state that they were provoked. And that's always sufficient evidence for police. They arrest the Jews. This happened to Maariv reporter Kalman Liebskind.
13. Can someone answer me to this?
alex ,   USA   (04.17.12)
Don't understand why in a situation like this where Israel has all those activist bothering around, why don't they arrest them in the spot and deport them? Why Israel allows them to be there and protest? What do you think people?
14. Lieutenant Colonel Shalom Eisner
jj ,   South Africa   (04.17.12)
I sincerely hope the IDF is going to give the Colonel a nice increase in Salary, what about promotion? Pity he didn't clobbered more of them. I suggest you start a fund to help pay for his legal costs.
15. Now if he was the HEAD of the IDF nobody would try to F with
Yashar koach!!!! ,   Israel   (04.17.12)
us. Slap him on his good wrist and give the man a big PROMOTION. These are the kind of tough good old fashioned Israelis that we need more of.
16. He should start by looking like an officer
Baruch ,   paris, france   (04.17.12)
I don't dont whether he's guilty or innocent, but one thing for sure - he certainly doesn't look like a credit to the IDF officer corps. Why does he have a Yasser Arafat-like stubble? Would he allow that to any of his subordinates? And why is he clearly overweight? Israeli combat officers should be in as good a physical shape as their troops because they have to lead 18-year-olds. And his uniform? Ever heard of an iron? An officer should be a model for his men.
17. #16 PARIS FASHION SHOW
DA URBAN POET ,   SAFED OPERA HOUSE   (04.17.12)
Eisner is a bruiser ,a fighter not a freakin' fashion model .His appearance is unimportant ,what matters is he knows how to give our enemies a good hiding. Get real.
18. #8 Rami
Abed ,   Nazareth   (04.17.12)
There is no difference at all. All violent protests are treated the same way. The only difference, politically incorrect as it may be, is that Arab protests tend to be more violent more frequently than protests in which Jews are involved. Its true that Arabs were killed in demonstrations during the intifada by IDF troops but this was almost always after molotov cocktails were thrown, rocks were hurled and bullets were fired. Can you name a single Jewish protest in which molotov cocktails and guns were involved? Arabs in this country are victims of themselves and their own community institutions, not Israel.
19. We supporty you Eisner
Patrick ,   Paris, France   (04.17.12)
You did the right thing ! Kol Hakavod, Haver !
20. DDon't send army to deal with petty protests
Ari ,   kfar saba   (04.17.12)
I am sympathetic with Eisner. The IDF should not have been sent to deal with a police matter of public disturbance. This was strictly a police matter and should have been dealt with by the police who are better trained and equipped to deal with civil disturbances of this type.
21. idf needs eisners
marcel   (04.17.12)
no one is perfect. Eisener has to review methods but idf needs him because the protest broke up because of the rifle butt. the protesters got the message. Idf needs eisers to defeat hezbollah the next time. israeli leaders like barak, maybe gantz and aloni are as sstated too concerned about world reaction and less about israeli security. The world could give a sh*t about israel.
22. Eisner, you are me .
robert ,   Panama   (04.18.12)
You have represent the new type of soldier Israel needs. You are in everyones heart, even if they do not express it.And yes you are me, you represent my feelings and the type of soldier i like to seee in Israel.Kol Hakavod leja, forget about your comanders.
23. Israel Must Put Time Limits and Boundaries on Protests
Netanya ,   Netanya   (04.18.12)
These "activists" were already there for 2 hours and then they decided to approach the IDF to break the line of soldiers who were blocking their way to the main road. Israel must make it very clear that we will not spend all day watching that a road is not blocked by idiots, who want to call themselves activists and that anyone who comes within 5 meters of the road will be arrested, jailed and fined $10,000 The police should enforce these laws, not the IDF. The army has much more important work to do and this is a waste of manpower. There is already laws in place against disturbing the public, as blocking a road would do. Let's just start enforcing laws which exist.
24. To all who support Eisner
Stan ,   Israel   (04.18.12)
If you think that the IDF is operating in Israeli territory, then the first step is to get all the international bodies to accept this. As of now, no organisation and no states support this opinion. (I know that the Nationalistic extremists in Israel want all of Palestine to be part of Israel, but there is no way that's going to happen) In the present situation the IDF is an "Army of Occupation" and despite the fact that maybe 99% of the time the behavior of the soldiers may be exemplory, there will always be ugly incidents, and this was one of the worst I have seen in recent years. Eisner claimed that he was attacked by the demonstraters. Where is the visual evidence? The demonstrators showed videos of soldiers photographing the incident. Apparently the army cannot show that the demonstators acted in a violent way. The profile of the IDF has changed in recent years, a very high proportion of the soldiers and officers are now from the Occupied Territories and this may explain why there is so much support for Eisner within the army. Over 40 years ago Professor Yesheyahu Leibowitz said that occupation "morally destroys the conquerer" unfortunately he is proven correct almost every week, and the hatred of Israel and what she does grows continuously.
25. #12
(04.18.12)
Tracy, Professor Leibowitz said more than 40 years ago that "occupation morally destroys the conqueror". This is happening to Israel and this is why more and more people appose what is happening in the occupied territories.
26. @ Baruch #16 from Paris...
M. Davison ,   Ra'anana, Israel   (04.18.12)
We of the IDF are less interested in ironed uniforms than we are in getting the job done. Unlike the French military, the IDF does more than pay lip service to "l'honneur de la pavillion". Firing a shot in the air before surrendering in order to avoid a court-martial for surrendering without firing a shot is okay, as long as your uniform isn't wrinkled? As for being unshaven, even a heathen secular like me knows that during the Omer, observant Jews, even clean-shaven ones, don't shave between Pessach and Shavuot.
27. Just the facts
Mickey Hala ,   Kochav Ya'ir, Israel   (04.18.12)
Tourist visas are issued to tourists. When a "tourist" is identified causing ANY domestic problem they should immediately be packed up and sent home. They are criminals.
28. Baruch #16, you show your ignorance
JewishHeart ,   Israel   (04.18.12)
Orthodox Jews do not shave in the counting of the Omer.......dur....are you sure your name is Baruch? Or are you a poser?
29. to#24
exUK ,   Tel Aviv   (04.18.12)
Stan, you are 'spot on'. Soldiers or Police who are also living on 'the wrong side of the line' should NOT be sent to disputes there,as they have a biased agenda.\ I am pleased that Eisner has now been dismissed;it has a averted a major PR catastrophe with potential repercussions against Jews the world over.

Birdi ,   Israel   (04.18.12)
For a newbie to Israel you sure have one huge mouth. Be very careful when talking aloud amongst Israelis.
