3. Cuts in stipends
Dennis ,   Nj USA   (04.18.12)
I can understand the angst of the recipients when these funds are cut, but...where are their children when it comes to contributing to their support? My in laws survived the Shoah, never applied for assistance and never received a dime. The kids kick in when necessary to maintain my mother in law, in her Kibbutz! Here in the States, me and my siblings will contribute, if necessary, to my mother in her old age. Where is individual reponsibility? The State of Israel is not responsible for this, IMHO. I know that I will get. Lot of grief over this, but it's my opinion.
4. How about...
A Jerusalemite ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (04.18.12)
How about cutting the number of people involved in the so-called "administrative" tasks in the office? Or perhaps cutting their salaries by the same 20%?
5. It is a simple fact that vast sums of restitution money
Al   (04.19.12)
intended for the survivors was stolen by agencies both in the golus as well as in Israel. Those are the facts. I hope that those responsible for these thefts live to have a miserable death. I wish them a prolonged miserable death, wherein they will beg for mercy to end their pain.
6. redirecting resources
rosa van der wiekenn ,   netherland   (04.19.12)
So maybe less for able young man sitting in jeshiwes while not working a decent job and more for the old and needy survivors?
7. How well are the screening recipients?
Dorothy Friend ,   Tel Aviv   (04.19.12)
I have seen some well heeled surivivors collecting these funds that they do not need. Screen recipients better, and there will be more for the really needy.
8. If every adult Jew gave $1 per month: no problems
EZRA THE PROUD JEW ,   USA-ISRAEL   (04.20.12)
that would be roughly $5million per month or $72million per year. So, why hasn't anyone made such a move to do this? Perhaps I will. Because this is DISGUSTING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
9. Cuts in stipends

Dennis with all due respect your mother and mother in law are very lucky that you and your siblings are able to help them. You are right that it is the children's responsibility to help their parents at an older age, but unfortunally not every survivor is that lucky. Many lost their entire family including spouses and children and never remarried again. Having no one to take care of them. Many suffer terribly from those years of malnutrition and remain in isolation and loniness due to the psychological damage. Depending on volunteers to come and visit them. I live in Israel and believe IT is Israel's responsibility to take care of survivors, because if Israel doesn't take care of their own people NO OTHER country will. Am Yisrael chai! We owe them our very own existence. My children will celebrate Yom Haatzmaut next week in a Jewish, free and democratic country that was created after and because of the Shoah. So that no Jewish person will ever have to suffer opression. They survived against the odds and Israel needs to help them to live the rest of their lifes in a decent way. That's my opinion.
