1. Egged buses ads should first be tested by
Benjamin ,   Ramat HaSharon   (04.24.12)
going through Arab neighborhoods. Most likely the buses would be completely destroyed if they dare pass through with obscene photos of women. Time for Israel to STOP THE RACISM and ANTI-SEMITISM of religious Jews!
2. We demand to see some T & A on our holy-city buses dammit!
(04.24.12)
Where the hell is that Bar-el cleavage they're getting in Tel Aviv (that's what T & A stands for, don't you know)
3. Breasts
Josh ,   Herzliya   (04.24.12)
If the pic with the article is the ad in question, it's funny that they only shoe the bottom half. That add is all over the train stations, and 70 of the women's breasts are exposed except for the nipples. Why would anyone want to put those type of adds in a place that will not lead consumers to buy, and will only antagonize?
4. 'enforcing the law specifically in haredi neighborhoods'
Joseph ,   London UK   (04.24.12)
From time to time there havfe been bus adverts that we Orthodox Jews found offensive, and after complaints and discussions they were removed from buses in Orthodox neighborhoods. Unlike Israel we don't have Jewish groups fighting to offend other Jews. A neutral body should deal with advert complaints.
5. Boy would you all be whining ANTISEMITISM!!!!!
Dorothy Friend ,   Tel Aviv   (04.24.12)
If advertizers overseas said they were avoiding pictures of people that looked too Jewish, because some folks find them offensive. If a man can't look of a picture of any woman of any age, appearance, etc. without getting aroused he has a real problem that requires either therapy or jail time.
6. Nightmare Egged buses
Maurice Solovitz ,   London, England   (04.24.12)
a recent experience of Central Bus Stations and the Egged attitude: from soemone who lived in Israel (8 years and has been a frequent visitor since the early 1970's). This is the worst I have experienced. MY ISRAEL HOLIDAY www.thebilateralist.blogspot.co.uk
7. Half-Naked People
Calm & Sane ,   Manchester   (04.24.12)
I imagine that if you had a half-naked man on an advert Egged wouldn't put it on busses in the Charedi neighbourhood. The real sexists are the irriligous who objectify women so much that their adverts heavily use half-naled women. Sad but true.
8. Police enforcement
JDE ,   Boston, USA   (04.24.12)
"They also asked the police to use a firm hand when enforcing the law in general and specifically, in haredi neighborhoods." Oh, well if the court asks them... [rolls eyes].
9. SEPARATE RELIGION FROM STATE ALREADY!
nadav ,   jtown   (04.24.12)
how much longer must the majority suffer from a superstitious, medieval minority?!
10. That's the typical Israeli response
Mike ,   Athens, Greece   (04.24.12)
"Yea, fine, I won't deny that we're doing it, but look over there, they're doing it! Why aren't you paying attention to them?" Every time, on every subject, from politics to diplomacy to bus advertisements. It never changes. The fact that other people are doing something does not justify the fact that you are.
11. Now our courts are telling people how to run businesses?
rebecca ,   Modiin   (04.24.12)
Why should Eged put adverts on buses that land up costing Eged money? Will these companies pay the bills to repair the buses? or compensate Eged for the people who will not get on a bus that looks like this? You would not put Hardim on buses in Tel Aviv or any Arab city buses. Why cant business sense prevail?
12. Hey Nadav #9
Benjamin ,   Ramat HaSharon   (04.24.12)
What right do Jews have to the country of Israel if not for the Torah? And you know what? If all the Jews in Israel would all follow Torah, they'd have much less enemies worldwide. If Torah is "superstitious medieval" why your Biblical name, Nadav, rather than some goyish name?
13. Control and Domination
Yakov ,   Tel Aviv   (04.24.12)
What is this argument really about? Offending an eccentric minority? No. Self expression? A little. Upholding the constructs of Israel? Yes. Secular and observant Israeli's, live in Israel. A country with a semi-secular government, and with laws promulgated to prevent discrimination, of all types. As such, editing advertising, based upon religious-discriminatory practices is against the law. Period! Worse yet, is the propagation of these same discriminitory practices, where public funds (tax money) are involved. Egged cannot continue to receive public funding, and violate the law. It is further wrong, for the Haredi population to support such measures. Fostering transgression of OUR laws, is conterproductive to all of us. The needs of the few, do not supercede the laws of the many!

"If all the Jews in Israel would all follow Torah, they'd have much less enemies worldwide." Yes, of course - and the Reform movement caused the Holocaust. Generation after generation, it's the same damn nonsense. You people never change.
15. Buses, Haredim
Ed Codish ,   Pardessiya   (04.24.12)
The conflict is about control. Haredim who must, for whatever reasons, ride buses in Tel Aviv or Netanya, do so. If there are advertisements they find offensive, they do not look at them (or they do, surreptitiously). In Jerusalem or Bnei Berak, where they may constitute a majority, they insist on controlling what others may see. I do not think there is even a tiny hint, in fact, of this being a matter of modesty.
