As for 2008-9 Cast Lead operation - it was a decisive win for us. We managed to hit Hamas where it hurts, kill its highest commanders, bend it on its knees and beg for a cease fire. And you know the best part (besides us hardly having any casualties)? The world didn't buy into the usual Pali victimhood that time. Cast Lead proved a decisive precedent in dealing with terror - hitting the terrorists hard and decisively enough certainly does the job. Since then, Hamas actually opposes the launching of rockets into Israel, for fear of retaliation. In the latest skirmish with Israel, Hamas took a lot of heat from Pali opposition groups for trying to tone down the fire. I suggest you'd check the actual facts before calling anyone stupid.

Hamas hasn't been as brazen and often blames others for rocket fire knowing the outcome of Cast Lead. They are quick to demand a cease-fire in lieu of Cast Lead 2. The UN has justified the blockade around Gaza which has never gone away. And no war crimes or other actions have been attributed to Israel legally though they've tried.
