61. The IDF Sent the Wrong Team
ltrail ,   United States   (04.20.12)
I described Lt. Col. Shalom Eisner, in a previous comment, as a killing machine. One should not send a killing machine to do negotiations with provocaters. If one does, mixed results will likely happen. Since the top brass of the IDF can be Monday-morning quarterbacks, so can I.
62. Eisner I too Stand With You
ltrail ,   United States   (04.20.12)
I too stand with Lt. Col. Shalom Eisner of the IDF. From across the "pond", I too ask God to bless Shalom Eisner. The world's Jew-haters will never prevail.
63. Middle ground reporting is hard. Good job Ynet, this time.
Michael ,   California, USA   (04.20.12)
64. A mob of foreign radicals entering a closed military zone
BH ,   Iowa   (04.20.12)
Should expect to be shot.
65. #42 robins: You're the absolute winner!
Tom ,   USA   (04.20.12)
The youtube video you posted invalidates all the fake, hate induced crap that the self-loathing, coward Israeli elite disgorge publicly. It proves the wretched ghetto mentality of the Israeli press and the fearful military echelon which will be defeated in the next conflagration.
66. Bottom Line It worked
Moisha Kapoir ,   Nanuet USA   (04.20.12)
I saw a riot being created by anarchists and I saw a swift blow that defused the situation, breaking up a riot. Kol Ha'kavod and shame on the IDF General Command.

David ,   USA   (04.20.12)
What about Eliyahu? Do the Rabbi's believe he stood up and flew away?
68. Israeli hero
Samer ,   Ramallah   (04.20.12)
Eisner didn't get his high position in the army because of rationality and humanity, his only problem is that he doesn't hide in front of cameras the mentality of Israeli army which is based on playing the role of victims while killing children and civilians in the name of fighting terrorism
69. A US Police Force would have beat the hell
EZRA THE PROUD JEW ,   USA-ISRAEL   (04.20.12)
out of these 'protestors'. They're a bunch of anarchists. Why is everybody making such a big deal over this: in the US if people behaved like this they'd be tazed, punched, kicked, slammed to the ground, etc. Not that its right to be so brutal but when people start smashing officers with bikes and are physically confrontational, thats when the officers are allowed to defend themselves, fight back or used physical force to do what they need to do to disperse the crowd. In hindsight: every check point should have high power water cannons and skunk canons. PERIOD.
70. disgusting behavior lol
Isaac ,   canada   (04.20.12)
I cant believe how stupid the idf is always trying to please those that just want to demonize them, let these protester go and try their protest in Gaza or Syria, lol they would be coming back in body bags and nobody would say a thing, this soldier should not be punished since their protest was both provocative and illegal, stupid idf!
71. Eisner
Ron ,   NY,NY   (04.20.12)
Nothing happened!! I have seen NYPD to much worse. Stop wasting the electrons on this non-story. Look at the murders going on in Syria!! Good job Eisner!! Protesters are just asking for it!!
72. No rights
Oren ,   Canada   (04.20.12)
I fail to see how it is the right of foreign visitors (anarchists no less) to go wherever they please and defy orders from a local military authority. On the other hand, it is the job of those authorities to confront and take control over those foreigners.
73. 27 Who's being selective?
Baruch Norman ,   Bayit Vegan   (04.20.12)
I know about serving and protecting, from my IDF West Bank duties and I know from them how to differentiate between a terrorist threat and civil disobedience by foreigners on bicycles. I'm no apologist especially not for the ISM whose naivety is dangerous and I don't think Solidarity and Betselem provide backing for violence. BUT these demonstrators are just that and Eisner lost it and gave them a victory by his Tony Soprano antics which have done the IDF and the people of Israel grave harm.
74. only 4 money
ale ,   italia   (04.20.12)
eisner is working for idf. idf work is to hitt everyone in west bank territories. eisner push out alls goim from holy land. he use weapon usually, and take money for this job like thousands of israelis. eisner is working, for an illegal gang ( idf ) , he is working like his istructors told him. idf in palestine is the problem, eisner is only a good idf soldier.
75. damage control
israel israeli ,   tel aviv   (04.20.12)
The press and the corrupt politicians who call themselves army commanders betrayed the IDF, soldiers and Israel by supporting a racist criminal against Eisner. You can't avoid the fact that Eisner did not touch the Danish racist. No black eye, no broken lip, not even a scratch. You can't avoid the fact that if the Danish racist tried the same in the US, UK or Denmark he would by lying in hospital or in jail. This article is no more than damage control, trying to throw dirt at Eisner to justify the betrayal.
76. Persona non grata
Butch ,   USA TN.   (04.20.12)
Coming to another's country protesting something they know nothing, not one thing, and expect hugs and kisses? if it was me acting in a manner such as these folks, i would expect a good "pop" in the mouth, and my hair pulled out. Why didn't they go to Gaza and protest the Pals fireing rockets on innocent women and children living in Israel. they would get more than a pop in the kisser. and hair snached from the noggen.
77. #11 Sarah B, you talk such rubbish
PaulZion ,   Israel   (04.20.12)
" In any other country, their provocation would be met with live fire". Yeah, right. The US, YOUR country, would condone firing on unarmed activists? Another pithy, irresponsible quote from your poisonous mouth. An anarchist hurt an officer with a bicycle? OK, so arrest the anarchist, but that does NOT make him/her a terrorist. A terrorist is someone who commits an act of violence with the purpose of instilling fear and terror. Hitting an army officer with a bicycle is far from a terrorist act. It is, however an act of provocation, causing harm to a person of authority - and for that he or she should be charged. The officer, Eisner, is guilty of a lapse in judgement when he was in command of a sensitive situation. His conduct was not becoming of a high ranking officer, a deputy commander of a battalion. He is supposed to lead by personal example. That is not the example that should be set for his subordinates. Therefore, there is no choice. He MUST be relieved of his duties, regardless of how good an officer he was beforehand. You take pride in claiming you are a Zionist, yet your comments continue to do damage to the cause of Zionism. If this is what you have to say, in the interests of Zionism and what is best for Israel, I think it best you shut up. Live here for an extended period of time. Serve in the army. Contribute here to Israeli society in a concrete manner. Then you have the right to talk.
78. Eisner Now

"In Syria is worse". Do this justify the brutality of our Rambo?
79. right on #76

They would hang without a trial

82. To: No. 34
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (04.20.12)
Then shouldn't move away? It is not your country, and you are free to leave at any time for any of the 22 Arab states that will have you.
83. No Flytilla To the Sudan, Why?
Noah Lev ,   LosAngelesUSA   (04.20.12)
Are soldiers in Syria, Egypt, Yemen, the Sudan, Bahrain, Iraq and Iran ever prosecuted for using force against civilians, who made provocative acts..minor or major? Syria is murdering thousands using snipers, tank shells, snipers and helicopters...yet not one soldier has been punished, the UN and Arab League adding insult to injury. The Fogel Family is murdered, as have many other Jews..at holy sites AND stone throwing over the Wall is comonplace. Yet no acton is taken by the PA. Okay, so this officer erred..(cameras tell the story). Israel's respone before an investigation was in error..and he could present his full side. He was midly provoked and lost his timper. But he did not use lethal force...or pepper spray or tasers, or rubber bullets. The real problem is still Israel's lack of ability to contain these protests..flytilla or flotilla. Even one minor infraction..gets around the PAs PR network. Israel should not lose focus..on its real enemies..Iran, Hamas, Hebollah, the Muslim Brotherhood, the DFLP and PFLP. These protests are distractions..with a lot of noise...but they accomplish their goals..to compromise Israel before the world. While in the Sudan..armies are getting ready to renew their warfare..with blacks vs Arabs. How come no flytilla?
84. To Israel: Declare Partial Marshal Law
Noah Lev ,   LosAngelesUSA   (04.20.12)
Can anyone imagine what the LAPD or NYPD would do under similar circumstances? In Florida, a tall, tough teenager supposedly struck a security person..who shot him dead, under Florida's law. The specifics are contested by both sides..and will come out in court. Some rushed to judgment...but the US is not Israel-Palestinian territories. The govt again rushed to judgement, trying to placate the Danes. ( the activist did not rep Denmark). Eisner was seen as guiloty before being investigated or tried by a military court, which is customary. The Pals have already coupled the IDF reactions to Arab mis-behavior and violence..and this incident. If a thug/criminal shows any indication of violence..the law enforcer has every right to shoot him. The road I understand was off limits, even to Israelis. Israel should in the future" declare a partial marshal law..to cover sensitive areas in the country and territories. Make it clear their deterrence and the responsibilities of those who would violate the law. Israel's govt is either overracting or underreacting...creating these problems for itself. It being a democracy does not exonerate it from gross errors.
85. Salutes, Kisses, and Hugs for Eisner!
Froike ,   NY NY   (04.20.12)
Lt Col Eisner, my apologies...I thought you only hit two of them. Actually, if you hit four, you get another two Kol Hakavods! I personally would promote you to a full Bird Colonel. You did your job professionally and to the best of your ability...we love and support you and all our IDF Men and Women. We are proud of you!
86. Nans # 34
Eaglebeak ,   Left Coast, USA   (04.20.12)
Unfortunately Israel is full of people like you too. Quick to judge and not much to judge with.
87. What actually happened? Story still missing activist assault
Carl ,   USA   (04.20.12)
According to the sub-heading, "last week's confrontation ...started after anarchist hurt officer with his bicycle. Lt. Col. Shalom Einser later seen assaulting woman with his weapon, pulling another's hair." Yet your story continues to discuss only Eisner's actions in a vacuum, same as most world media contantly portrays Israel! I don't condone his actions, but he was not the initiator.
88. Brutal
Bernard ,   Los Angeles USA   (04.20.12)
Although I do not agree with Shalom Eisner's actions, I will say that many activists, protesters, and attendees of anti Israel events participate because it is safe, this is one of the worst thing that could happen to them. From Wladislaw Szpilman's book The Pianist, about nazi occupied Warsaw, later made into a movie I quote "A boy of about ten came running along the pavement. He was very pale, and so scared that he forgot to take his cap off to a German policeman coming towards him. The German stopped, drew his revolver and without a word put it to the boy's temple and shot. The child fell to the ground, his arms flailing, went rigid and died"
89. IDF is to blame for policy, not Eisner
Lemmings Hotline ,   sd usa   (04.20.12)
These activists need to be arrested and fined for confronting the IDF roadblock. Eisner is just dealing with an impossible command to just 'hold the line' without any riot control gear. $1000 or 2000 dollar fine should pay for the expense of the security and the lockup. Then, all he has to do is arrest them.
90. Well done Eisner! Want it in Danish?:skide godt,Egon!
