This is a very well thought out article. It is balanced and correct. Grass & others are part-time antisemites because they blow with the wind and the wind now is a blast of anti-Israel, anti-Jewish air. But I do think that Netanyahu's statement on Grass was clear and very good.

It is deploreable that Grass could say that an Isr aeli bomb could innihilate the Iranian population. It is also deplorable that Grass served in the Waffen SS and has hidden this during several decades. But the absolutely major part of his poem contains opinions which one should be allowed to express in a democratic system. Gerstenfelds article is, to me, a typical example of the inability in Israel to discuss the conflict Israel/the palestinians. A conflict which shows a great number of Israeli crimes against international law and laws for human rights. The Swedish writer Göran Rosenberg, himself a Jew, has formulated as soft power the Israeli tendency to label all ciritcism of Israels policy as ant-semitic.

grass did never mention the palestinians in his poem. never. but he mentioned iran, a genocidal maniac regime that does say it wants to annihilate israel and all jewish zionists in it. stick to the issue here please. why did not grass enter a poem about syria? why not about china and why not about bashir al assad and the terrorism and killing in darfur and somalia? why not about the occupation of tibet by china, the occupation on cyprus by turkey....all illegal under international law. why not mention or write a poem about turkish armenian genocide? why not write a poem about the killings of christians in muslim countries and the destruction of their churches and communities by islam? why not write about the bloody crack down of ahmadinejad on his people, killing thousands in 2009? the above are very current issues and need a poem as well. but grass felt that he needs to ONLY CONCENTRATE ON ISRAEL AND NOT ON ALL THE BLOODY KILLINGS IN AFRICA, ARABIA, MIDDLE EAST, ETC... WHY IS THAT??? don't these people deserve international law and such a poem? yes, grass can surely express his opinions about israel. BUT.... The Waffen SS was a volunteers-only service. It was considered an "elite" service (yeah, real "elite" to machine gun Jews into ditches). So how do you explain how Grass entered up in the elite Waffen SS?

The Nazis were not drafting 17 year olds in 1944, then he volunteered again the SS (which never drafted a single person) and then volunteered for membership in the Nazi party. What occupation are you talking about? The one the West thinks is occupation i.e. post 1967, or the one the Arabs mean i.e. post 1948? If you think Israel returning to pre-1967 lines will end hostilities, you haven't paid much attention to why they resumed in 1967. There was no mention then of freeing the "Palestinians" from the occupation of Egypt and Jordan, only the destruction of Israel.
