Benjamin ,   Ramat HaSharon   (04.28.12)

32. #12 Yoni Acually I Do Believe in #5
(04.28.12)
Truth is Truth My Friend, Magic fairies are the ones who run their theocracy, the mullahs are tainted humans. Their cult is just that a man made following. Does a fatwa come from Ha Shem? Does sharia come from Ha Shem? What is hallel or should I say Kosher? Where did the idea of females to modest come from as well as hajahb? Who created the burqa Ha Shem? When the Jewish fast are they denied water All Day? Ha Shem gave the Law to Moses men wrote the Talmud Not the same as what islam Dictates to it's members? I respect your opinion, however I Do Disagree. The division in Judism is variations in doctrine and fervor unlike islam which is Fractured in doctrine and Many Other destructive differences. Do the basic Three Jewish ( Orthodox,Conservitive and Reformed) doctrines Murder eachother I think not. Sorry my friend it is healthy to disagree to provoke thought and understanding But to commit violence is unhealthy and divided That Is Not Judism. שבת שלום/ברוך הא שם
33. Israel already suffers from roots of religion
Arik Silverman ,   Chicago USA   (04.28.12)
Israel declared independence on May 14. But you don't celebrate it then, you use a religious calendar for that, for memorial day, Shoa day and other things. Result: you held all your recent holidays and commemorations according to a horrible historic schedule. Are you not aware that April 20 is Hitler's birthday and April 30 is the day of his death. HOW HORRIBLE THAT YOU SHOULD HOLD CELEBRATIONS IN THAT TIME FRAME !!!!!! FOR THE SAKE OF HUMAN DECENCY, GO BACK TO THE WESTERN CALENDAR.
34. Enough hate mongering
Menachem ,   Israel   (04.28.12)
First of all, the silent majority of Haredi Jews identify with Israel and reject the policies of the vocal haredi extremist minority which the media focuses on. Secondly, the number of haredi Jews who get a higher secular education, enter the work force, want to serve IDF and the State is constantly increasing. Thirdly, Huldai wrongly assumes that most Haredi Jews oppose Israeli democracy which is not the case. Haredi birth rates are declining and the majority of haredim want to ingrate into Israeli society so the future in Israel is bright if we end the hate mongering.
35. 1 Efi, why,are you a Chabadnik?
ORA ,   JERUSALEM   (04.28.12)
Israel needs a leader with vision, regardless to which group he belongs.
36. 2Maurice," a religious state.it s Iran"?
ORA ,   JERUSALEM   (04.28.12)
You do not seem to be very fixed on details.
37. He is right.
Martin ,   Haifa, Israel   (04.28.12)
The Haredim clearly think God's Law should rule Israel and everyone in it, be it Jews or non Jews. This is the exact same situation in Iran and in Saudi Arabia. Israel will have to: A. Impose a 6% limit on parties entering the Knesset. It will lead to stable coalitions with Shas being the only religious party and Labour the only left party. B. No exception except medical to military or national service. Those who do not serve will be punished. C. Cut down on all state run yeshivot. D. Yeshiva studies will not count as military service. E. Introduce civil marriage as an alternative, not a replacement to the religious monopoly. Hopefully this will lead to a vibrant democracy instead of terrible Rabbi lead state.
38. Herzl lit Christmas tree and has no heirs
Yoni the Jew ,   Jewish homeland   (04.28.12)
Herzl was a terrible Jew who lit a christmas tree with his children each year and considered suggesting mass conversion of Jews to Christianity. If we follow him we will all be left like he has been left with no living heirs. Wiped out fulfilling hitlers wish all on his own.
39. Unfortunately he is right!
Mara ,   Vienna   (04.28.12)
Religions are the real evil in the world, they have done more crimes, bloodshed and oppression thatn any other doctrine ever has. Israel is no exception, so sad!!!

"But to commit violence is unhealthy and divided That Is Not Judism. " What do you define as Judaism? Is it the commandments in the 5 books of Moses, or is it the oral Torah such as the Rambam or the Shulchan aruch? In all three of these books there are passages which command you to inflict violence on other people. If you know about these passages (and there are a lot of them) and have decided that they are no longer relevant today, then that is great. You are probably a decent, moral person. But who are you to say "That is not Judaism"? Do you just pick and choose which parts of the torah and halacha you are obligated to follow, and the rest can be labeled as not part of Judaism? I do agree with you Judaism as a whole is currently far more peaceful than Islam. But to say that the actual Jewish laws are not violent or divisive is completely false.
45. Secular BIG ISRAEL, PRONOUNCEABLE spelling, soc-econ 3rd WAY

46. Tel Aviv mayor = Communist Atheist Radical Leftist!

47. look at what they're wearing
sweeter than honey ,   far away   (04.28.12)
the clothing of lower middle class poles or urkrainians circa 1770-1800. notwithstanding the romanticism that buber makes of the chasids, they were right wing in their country of origin so as to fit it, kow-tow, and not suffer (thus their leaders hoped). in the upcoming nationalisms and revolutions that were to europes lot for the next 150 years. they have not evolved, and are thus a potential danger for the future of israel where they are part of a majority not a minority.
48. events in shapira and hatikvah
sweeter than honey ,   far away   (04.28.12)
anything to do with this?
49. Israels problem is that it has no constitution
Yael Schlichting ,   Qiryat Motzkin   (04.29.12)
I mean, Israel shall have a jewish constitution. #1 - @Efi - Amerika I don't know what I would have done in Germany without the help and the discrete presence of Chabad. It's not that the black men with their hats are endangering Israel! The problem lies in the fact, that we failed to establish the institutions that keep a Jewish society with all it's different groups running. If you draw a scale from extreme to extreme, the Zealots for sure mark the one extreme, BUT who is on the other end? The Secular? Those, who don't give a f*** on what a social order is about, those who always eye the decadent christian states in the west, when they open their mouths and drivel something about a modern society? We must see one thing clear: There never will be an ideal solution, just like there never will be a perfectly just court rule. This is what both sides must swallow! The extreme Hareidim must accept, that they must carry their burden of the state of Israel, just like they must accept that knowing the Talmud and the Torah inside out, doesn't make a good human. And the extreme from the other side of the scale must learn that the "American Psycho" cannot be the role model for a modern society.
50. he wants to radicalize more haredi so he can say I am right
zionist forever   (04.29.12)
ULTRA ORTHODOX MAJORITY WOULD TURN ISRAEL INTO A FUNDAMENTALIST STATE LIKE SAUDI ARABIA. How exactly does genius here plan to stop the ultra orthodox becoming a majority one day, castrate them all maybe make sure they don't have children to threaten the seculars? Busses won't prevent the orthodox becoming the majority. This speech isn't about busses its an attempt to try and provoke the haredi and turn them more radical so he can say: I told you so the ultra orthodox are nothing but trouble we must do everything we teach them their place in society is bellow the secular elite and a good start would be Saturday busses.
51. religious government
observer ,   usa   (04.29.12)
Israel is strong and successful precisely because it has not (yet?) succumbed to the pressures of the right wing crazies. Religion - and by that I mean any religion - is a inherently a poor basis upon which to govern a society, particular when that society is comprised of people from many parts of the world, perhaps sharing some traditions, but very diverse in their thinking and culture. It seems ironic but the only way for a jewish society to survive and thrive (or for that matter christian or muslim, or pick your religion), is for its government to be representative of all the people, not just a dogmatic subset, whether a minority or even a majority. Israel does not owe its industriousness to men in black sitting around all day, studying ancient religious texts, praying, and chanting. On the contrary, it thrives due to the creative enterprises carried out by those who work, and it owes its survival to those in uniform who every day sacrifice part of their lives to defend Israel against those who would deny its right to exist and who would kill its people. Religion can largely be characterized as a set of core propositions, usually not supported by any available evidence, and often preposterous on their face; by restraints upon what people are permitted to do; and by rituals or procedures followed, mostly for their own sake, in order to identify with the group. Adherants share those restrictions in common, and that commonality can in some ways be a uniting force. However, to the extent that those restrictions are not basic to civil coexistence, and are incompatible with the wishes and needs of significant fractions of the populace (and in many cases even when they are widely accepted) they must not be forced upon those who do not subscribe to them. Theocracies always eventually fail, usually brutally. Israel must not make that mistake lest it too be wiped from the map just as that maniac in Iran dreams.
52. Huldai hasn't a clue
Akiva   (04.29.12)
So he compares Judaism (Torah) to fundamentalist Iran and goes on an unintelligible rant about the same tired and boring scare-monger lies the left promulgates about the dangers of a Hareidi majority. News flash: YOU CAN'T STOP IT. Don't like it? Go live somewhere else. Israel is the JEWISH state.
53. 41Robert If all the Jews in Israel...
ORA ,   JERUSALEM   (04.29.12)
will be orthodox, there will most probably be no wars, as the Muslim world will not feel anymore like rejecting us as a foreign body [which to them a secular state is]
54. 33 Arik The Jewish calendar is more..
ORA ,   JERUSALEM   (04.29.12)

58. "Wrong".It has kept us together as Jews
rseener ,   London England   (04.29.12)
59. #15 -- Wasn't Massada martydrom?
Yoni   (04.29.12)
And didn't the bible promote death by stoning? Actually, what was the biblical sentence for homosexuality? Somehow, I doubt it was very pretty. But I guess you should be proud of the fact that these days, it's not nearly as bad -- the religious sector now only practices mild sexism like forcing women to sit in the back of buses. I can't even begin to wonder why people would be against that.
60. #54, Lunar calendar has nothing to the four seas
Michael ,   California, USA   (04.29.12)
Ancient Israelis used both Lunar and Roman calendars after Pompey conquered Jerusalem more than 2000 years ago. Roman calendar is based on earth's rotation around the sun. Lunar calendar is based on moon's rotation around the earth. Both are very accurate, but when it comes to seasons, rotation around the sun is more meaningful. Google for more information, sweetheart.
