1. Jerusalem for all!
Moshe ,   Jerusalem   (05.02.12)
Way to go! As a Jerusalemite I am proud to see people working to making Jerusalem more open to all of her residents! I am tired of the ultra religious imposing their will on the rest of us. Although I will not be marching you have my full support! Kol ha kavod!
2. slut walk
gregg bowman ,   Parksville, Canada   (05.02.12)
if you look like a slut...... regards...gregg bowman
3. Haredim the last thing you need is to attack them. Don't be
PETER SM ,   MELBOURNE AUSTRALIA   (05.02.12)
stupid, don't give them publicity.don't end up on the front page of the media, you not they will look bad. Keep your dignity and look the other way!
4. slutwalk article
(05.02.12)
My question to the organizers of such a walk is whether there is or should be any limit or should people be free to walk around completely naked if they choose without any societal consequences or restrictions? If not, who gets to set the limits? Only someone who is willing to participate in a slutwalk? Or is it possible that someone who dresses modestly might also have a right to participate in setting such standards in a civilized society?
5. Jerusalem Deputy Mayor Yossi Deutsch and his morality
Haim ,   TA   (05.02.12)
Once again Jerusalem Deputy Mayor Yossi Deutsch our self appointed moral guardian has the arrogance to decide what women can and cannot wear. Let me remind him that Jerusalem is the capital of all Israelis and all minority groups have the right to march or demonstrate. Well done to these women in standing up to the likes of Jerusalem Deputy Mayor Yossi Deutsch and the Jewish teliban.
6. Better to be a slut than harideem
Haim ,   TA   (05.02.12)
7. But...a slut is ugly and negative.
Israeli 2   (05.02.12)
Eventhough I agree fully with this statement: "The goal is to make it clear that the way a woman chooses to dress is not an excuse or a reason to harass or attack her..." A slut is still ugly and negative.
8. A stupid idea
Rivkah F. ,   Jerusalem   (05.02.12)
If some women, even many women, instead on being stupid, let them have their day. There are so many really important women's issues: equal pay for equal work; affordable day care for working mothers (most must work out of their homes); reducing the price of essential drugs for breast cancer; women's rights in rabbinical courts: and of course, the persistence of forced marriages and honor killings. This type of "slut walk" deflects society from dealing with those real issues and is an ephemeral whim. It plays into the hands of haredi politicians who need publicity & support. Those of us for women's rights must NOT participate in this farce.
9. Haredim and misogyny
Yakov ,   Tel Aviv   (05.02.12)
Denigrating and subjugating women, are basics of the Haredi social system. This is certainly not unique to Judaism or our geography. Just look around us. The sin, is in the act of controlling, our most important resource. The Mother's of Israel. Our Women. Instead of control, subjugation and humiliation, we should take the same energy and laud our women. I personally love our Israeli women, and find it repugnant, the way they are treated in the religious community.
10. I agree with the mayor!
Israeli woman ,   Haifa   (05.02.12)
And I am not Hareidi. Women want to not be considered as only sex objects, to be respected as fellow citizens, wives, daughters, mothers, sisters, then why dress like whores ? Why give the message "I am a whore"? Here we are trying to combat human trafficking of women, and we are giving a mixed message: respect me/ use me! Come on! We can't have it both ways!
11. You don't remember, O Israel!
Israeli woman ,   Haifa   (05.02.12)
You have been called out to NOT BE LIKE the NATIONS! Why davka Jerusalem? What are you trying to prove? We are calling JUDGEMENT down on our own heads! I don't want my life controlled and dictated by loose people who want to flaunt and force me to live by their wickedness. I WANT to walk in the ways of HaShem! And I am not a Hareidi. Go peddle your sinful life style amongst the Gentiles in the diaspora!
12. are haredi admitted?
Susya Bar Dror ,   Israel   (05.02.12)
or would they spoil the event?
13. Wasn't even a man
yaakov ,   jerusalem   (05.02.12)
""I was walking down King George Street in an outfit that was a bit revealing when a woman began cursing at me and calling me 'Slut,'" she recalled" ..... ... It was a woman yelling at her...not even a man. If other woman think you look like a whore...
14. Important issues
Anna Khalastchi ,   Haifa, Israel   (05.02.12)
Actually, being able to go outside without being raped, IS an important women's issue.
15. To the "shocked and disgusted" Deputy Mayor
Raptor   (05.02.12)
I am no less shocked and disgusted by the manner in which the haredim dress and parade themselves through the streets of our towns. Streets are by definition public venues and as such belong to ALL OF US. If the haredim have a right to appear as clowns then others have a right to appear as sluts if this is their fancy.
16. Yakov T. A. Jewish religion is matrilineal NOT patrilineal
PETER SM ,   MELBOURNE AUSTRALIA   (05.02.12)
Follows the mother not the mother for she is regarded as the one who runs the household and what the child grows up with.. It says in the Chumash a person must fear his mother and father, the mother first. Plenty more where that comes from, you can find it yourself.
17. Define whore
Anna Khalastchi ,   Haifa, Israel   (05.02.12)
Has it ever occurred to you that those women may not consider their style "whorish"? A woman is entitled to physical integrity no matter how she dresses. Als you know what? Even true whores, who have sex for money, are entitled to leave the house without being harassed. What one does for money, and what one has to put up with in one's personal life, are 2 different things.
18. recommendation
israel israeli ,   tel aviv   (05.02.12)
These women should prove that they really want rights, and that this is not just another attempt at Jew-baiting and They should conduct their walk on Friday noon down the Via Dolorsa street. Or maybe on French Hill where women really are attacked.
19. If it walks like a goose, then it's a goose
Miriam ,   Jerusalem the Holy   (05.02.12)
If you dress like a slut, then you're a slut. Nothing to be proud of.
20. IMMORAL & CORRUPT SECULAR are out to bring others to sin
Secular from the ,   Generation of Flood   (05.02.12)
Seculars synonymous with IMMORALITY, INIQUITY and WICKEDNESS. And they still have the chutspah to get holy honorable haredim into their filthy army to help them fight against their ENEMIES THEY BROUGHT UPON THEMSELVES; the Palestinians, Iran, Jordan and other Arab nations whose women dress modestly. Hopefully the Rabbis and Mekubalim will do their job….
21. why davka Jerusalem?
why davka Jerusalem? ,   world   (05.02.12)
is this a provocation? the most pure is to be with the most impure - thats the way- see where the holy of holies used to be - now is a mosque- also -the women - taking off clothes is earning points for what? doesnt make them more free- thats for sure- it's very sad
22. Stupid provocation. They need attention and a Pschiatrist.
Ari ,   Jerusalem   (05.02.12)
Last week was Buses in Shabat, now this. Like I said in my last comment . If persons want Israel to become like any other country, then let them go to the other country. ISRAEL IS SPECIAL AND MUST REMAIN SPECIAL. Some lunatics with no moral or historic structure wants to convert this in Sodom and Gomorra. It`s not like being a Haredi but there is a limit the these crazy guys. And also for the Authorities there is a limit for freedom of speach- A little more and anarchy will reign
23. LOL - more power to you ladies!
Talula ,   Israel   (05.02.12)
24. #7 - Israeli 2
Devorah   (05.02.12)
I totally agree with your comment. This kind of freak show is probably one of the worst ways to express their agenda in public. As you wrote, it is ugly and negative, and I would add that, in the end, it will backfire and do nothing to help their cause. Someone should inform these gals that class, chic, elegance, intelligence and self respect never go out of style.
25. Would Sarah Netanyahu participate in the "slut march"?
American Sabrah ,   Israel   (05.02.12)
I highly doubt it since she is the wife of the prime minister. She is aware of her role and has more dignity. There are plenty of ways to advocate for women's rights without parading around in public with you brasseries. Sexual violence against women is indeed linked to the way they dress as is pornography. Whoever says otherwise is a fool or in denial but that's a fact of reality. The laws of modesty was instituted to protect women and prevent them from being viewed as sex objects. While I don't agree with the haredi approach to modesty, people do judge you by the way you dress. Men are hardwired to be visual and we womenfolk need to educate them that there is more to a woman that just her body. Walking around in your lingerie in broad daylight will have them think of you of being anything but an educated self respecting woman with an opinion of her own. If you wouldn't think twice about wearing a mini skirt and a cleavage revealing top to a job interview or to meet the prime minister, then why would you dress like that on a daily basis? Not only am I appalled by the way women dress here , especially in the summer, I am embarrassed by them. And they wonder why their relationship with men don't extend beyond a one night stand. Our body is not meant for public display. Besides, the less women reveal, the more is left to the imagination. Get a clue, people!
26. Slutwalk Jerusalem 2012
John ,   Manchester   (05.02.12)
Ladies....... Get your kit off !
27. #10
Talula ,   Israel   (05.02.12)
Why shouldn't I be allowed to wear a low cut elegant dress/top without being called a slut or giving men the wrong idea? I happen to like my cleavage!! It's not a mixed message and you are talking a load of crap. I work in high tech, and there isn't a chance in HELL that I would mix with people who traffic in women. I wouldn't even know where to find them. They search out weak feeble women, because of their personality, NOT because of their clothes. If a woman wants to express herself by wearing belly exposing shirts, short skirts and low tops then NO-ONE should tell them otherwise. And, as for men, they have to deal with their own issues - if they can't keep it zipped up around a short skirt or cleavage. It's THEIR issue, and no-one elses.
28. More interested in rights than what is right!
ariel ,   Jerusalem   (05.02.12)
Their more interested in rights than what is right! The message doesn't match the medium, ironically their showing disrespect to women. If you want to be respected then disrespecting women and those who care about simple modesty is not a good beginning. No one I know believes that it is a women's fault for being sexually assaulted based on what she's wearing (or not wearing). But also, to say that I am not responsible (on any level) for the way I present myself is ignorant and childish.
29. Go do your walk in East Jerusalem.
rebecca ,   Modiin   (05.02.12)
You are a bunch of sluts, self opinionated, low life, inconsiderate sluts. There's no honour in your march, just antagonism. You get what you're asking for.
30. Where do I sign up
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (05.02.12)
I have the perfect outfit waiting for an airing. I last wore it in 1972, when I was 28 and havent had a chance or the opportunity to wear it since. I'm sure it still fits perfectly. Mini-skirt, boob-tube and Knee high boots....Trust me, it will be perfect.
