3. Radio is never private
Jay ,   New Haven USA   (05.02.12)
What kind of military has it's pilots use an unencrypted radio channel anyway? It's not wiretapping when you eavesdrop on a radio broadcast.
4. I hope they did
Mike ,   NYC   (05.02.12)
and got as much info as possible. unfortunately for turkey they have chosen to forsake Israel as an ally which will only come to hurt them in the end. I wouldnt be surprised if the bubble in their economy bursts. Those who bless the Jews will be blessed...
5. Turkey is not the enemy
David   (05.03.12)
Sure the relationship between Turkey and ISrael is at an all time low. However, if both sides can elect more moderate leaders there is a chance they can restore relations. Turks have a long history of saving Jews in the past and hopefully things can be repaired. Netanyahoo needs to go and the Turkey pres as well.
6. conspiracy theories in the muslim lands and minds
(05.03.12)
however, despite this nonsense, the israeli airforce in direct combat with the turkish air force is superior on all counts. in combat the iaf will 100% eliminate all their aircraft from the sky as they did in a simulation with the us air force some years ago. so, go ahead you turkish fliers.....make israel's day.
7. #2 ace - correct
solomon ,   bklyn   (05.02.12)
Turkey has shown itself to be a backstabber; to Israel, to NATO, and to the US.
8. Israel spying on NATO?
Penny Lane   (05.03.12)
Perhaps its time NATO command halts all contacts with Israel, which obviously cannot be trusted.
9. Never secure!
sk ,   USA   (05.03.12)
Unless you mamufacture your own military hardware, software and electronics, you can never be sure who has real control
10. To # 5 David
Don ,   Indy USA   (05.03.12)
David you need to get you head out of the sand. Turkey is now run by a bunch of islamists and I'll bet you voted for Obama. I guess you think Israel needs that gutless Olmert back ?? Maybe even get Jimmy Carter to run for office in gaza.
11. Islamist Turkey needs to be closely monitored. Its loyalty
PETER SM ,   MELBOURNE AUSTRALIA   (05.03.12)
is to brothers in Iran and the failed backstabbing state of Pakistan. Iran does its banking throught Turkey and ther defence ties with Jihad terror exporting Pakistan are suspicious to say the least. Who knows how much US/ NATO security has been compromised already
12. ACE you must be referring to Major Hassan, Imam Awalaki
PETER SM ,   MELBOURNE AUSTRALIA   (05.03.12)
and the endless other Islamist terrorist who make the US their home, take the benefits, then kill Americans, fight with the Taliban etc etc. The USA knows very well who its friends are,leftist/islamist deflectors for global jihad are not it. Backstabbing is what the Pakistanis do to the USA daily,Pakistan & Turkey are close on defence Who is monitoring what weapon codes are revealed to Turkey or Iran?
13. As with Iran the relationship wend bad as soon as Islamists
PETER SM ,   AUSTRALIA   (05.03.12)
took controll, they replaced cooperation with confrontation. Islamists by definition want to rule with Islam and Israel is in their way in the M.E.Europe is on the menu, not via the gates of Vienna but through the back door with the 5th column of useful idiots in place inside the gates.
14. Anyone for more Islamist pilot training in the USA.Jumbo jet
PETER SM ,   AUSTRALIA   (05.03.12)
takeoff practice a special interest!
15. Deterioration of relations
New Yorker ,   U.S.A.   (05.03.12)
It's puzzling that various media including YNET keep repeating that relations between Turkey and Israel have deteriorated since the Israeli raid on Mavi Marmara, as if there was no sharp deterioration of relations prior to the Turkish provocation, as if this provocation and the resulting Israeli raid themselves were not the consequence of the Turkish acting in enemy like fashion. The constant repetition of the inverted course of events is nothing but a deliberate distortion of facts in order to allude to Israel's culpability.
16. Get real Turkey this is silly RIGHT ???
M. S. ,   mpls america   (05.03.12)
I doubt if I could under stand any thing in Turkish and or Hebrew I know only basic English people always tell me I talk in the wrong person I doubt Israel needs to know what Turkish pilots say to each other and or ground control wars move too fast for this to mean any thing RIGHT but of course Turkey has to come up with more accusations against Israel like the Palisteinians they want to make Israel look like the bad aggressors any way change codes whatever I could care less RIGHT ??? Thank You... M. S. P.S. Could you people in Turkey read this is this plain English enough for you RIGHT ??? Thank You... M. S.
17. ISRAELI WIRETAPPING ?
Mark ,   T.a.Israel   (05.03.12)
THIS IS A LIE FROM SOME TURKISH DEFENCE COMPANIES LIKE ASELSAN TO OBTAIN THE NECESSARY MONEY FROM THE TURKISH GOVERNMENT FOR THEIR UNSUCCESSFUL RESEARCH ON ELECTRONIC WARFARE !!!
18. Turkish delite
Lucky ,   USA   (05.03.12)
It's a most unlikely assumption, that the IAF has any need of knowledge from whatever the Turkish Air force possesses, including communication.
19. Big deal
Vlad   (05.03.12)
Didn't Turkey switch off the friend-foe identification software, allowing Turkish planes to spy on their Israeli counterparts? Hasn't Turkey been poking Israel with warship movements and rhetoric? Why WOULDN'T Israel spy on Turkey. In fact, even if Turkey was still an ally, a smart nation spies on its friends too.
20. "Nonsense", #6?
Vlad   (05.03.12)
No, this is fully believable. And necessary, to say the least. Turkey has switched off the friendly forces identification with regards to the IAF, allowing its pilots to engage Israeli planes, and has poked Israel with naval maneuvers and threats of military action. Israel would be irresponsible NOT to spy on Turkey and gather intelligence on its fighting capabilities.
21. Consider the source
Gee ,   Zikron Yaakov   (05.03.12)
Any Turkish journalist that doesn't toe the line in Turkey is already in jail. Turkey has more journalists in prison than any other country in the world and that includes China with what 50x - 100x the population.
22. Hay Ace, sounds like youv'e been victamized. Was it your Da
jrecho ,   us   (05.03.12)
23. lies
viva israel and idf ,   israel   (05.03.12)
samething of interest ,in the second world war although turks make a big show of saving jews they only selectively did so to suite their interest.
24. IDF wiretapped Turk conversations for intel
Israeli ,   Haifa   (05.03.12)
GOOD!
25. Eavesdropping on radio chatter...
M. Davison ,   Ra'anana, Israel   (05.03.12)
Anyone using a radio to communicate with someone else should realize that what they say can be heard by anyone listening on the same frequency. This is standard procedure for military intelligence units for armies around the world. I would be amazed if there was no Turkish military unit dedicated to listening to the airwaves to hear the chatter of all aircraft radios, military and civilian, within range.
26. Israel was probably training these pilots in the first place
Mark ,   Lodz, Poland   (05.03.12)
....the Turkish Air Force had to 'scramble' their communications systems as well ...by directive of Erdogan's AKP...just as they were instructed to modify their codes to identify our IAF planes as 'enemy' . That's the extent of the 'spying'
27. I hope thats true
zionist forever   (05.03.12)
I have a feeling though its more Erdogan mischief making. Sounds more like an attempt to drum up more anti Israel sentiment and boast about how how those clever Turkish electronics geniuses managed to create a system the the Israeli spies couldn't crack.
28. #26 Thank you.
Obsessive compulsive ,   Turkey   (05.03.12)
Last week OFFICIAL STATE JUDGE's question to Ilker Basbug (Ex-chief of 2n biggest NATO Army who has been blamed for being a "terrorist") Question : Why did you pray at the KOTEL during your Jerusalem visit? :) Answer: I've also prayed at Al-Aqsa. Asking my faith is none of your business. Later he has left the court. Cetin Dogan, another ex-army chief in prison. His daughter married a Turkish Jew economist Dani Rodrik. They have a blog. Last week, Erdogan has blamed the Secular Party for being Athée! Inferior than Dreyfus's France because of destructive elephant in the room.
29. Islamist cheaters...
BURAK ,   Azerbaijan   (05.03.12)
The islamist government uses to diffuse this kind of fabrications in order to divert public opinion from its failures.
30. The story is nonsense!
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (05.03.12)
What can the Turkish Air Force possibly teach the Israelis? Put the two air forces up against one another in their top aircraft, and the resultant scenario would have the Israelis in F-16s and the Turks in crop dusters. Get real. This one doesn't even pass the laugh test. Erdogan grasping at straws, yet again. Galvanizing his population against what? He's terminally ill; he ought to be making peace with his maker; not ratcheting up the level of acrimony. Israel will win that one, anyway. I think Erdogan should just resign himself to going out with a whimper. He really oughtn't want to go out with a big Israeli bang. Just like one of those Turkish movies -- hours and hours of absolutely nothing. Why are the Turks so afraid of Israel? Actually, I know the answer to that one, and there is good reason for their fear. Bad idea to push Israel too far; didn't Erdogan learn anything from the spanking he took in the Palmer Report?
