Funny how only civilians perished.
If the U.S. wanted to affect Japanese military and manufacturing installations, the obvious targets would have been Osaka, Fukuoka, Nagoya or Yokohama. Tokyo had already been almost entirely destroyed by General Curtis LeMay's firebombing tactics. The object was to kill and maim civilians -- there was a lot of revenge (for Pearl Harbor; for the Bataan Death March and the treatment of prisoners of war in the Japanese prison camps) in the mix.

And you need to read & re-read post # 20 over & over again until you fully understand it, because post # 20 is 100% right & you are 100% wrong.

34. Israeli nukes are the reason there is
somewhat of a peace. If the iranians had them there would be no peace anywhere. the saudis know this, the iraqis know this. everyone knows this. even the ignorant iranian mullahs know this. but wait, Israel has no nukes, do they?

#31. I feel you are misguided in your assessment. The goal was to attack JAPAN (macro), to get the attention of its leadership and decision-makers to make them see there was no alternative but to surrender. And it worked. The goal was not to specifically target military OR civilian targets but to minimize casualties all around and certainly of US troops. You have a beef with Truman ?? WWII outcome??
