31. #21 Abed from Nazareth
Yossef   (05.03.12)
What can I say to you? You are right. Not all of you hate us and not all of us hate you. We must find a way, which one? But first of all we must talk, and why it's important that you continue to contribute to the talkback. Thanks Abed.
32. anything but "indifferent"
yaarah ,   tel aviv   (05.03.12)
"I'm indifferent to all of them" you write. you are not. you have a bunch full of really awful prejudices and you don't even realize it claiming that you are indifferent to them. he saves your child and you don't give him a ride because "his friends" murdered people? how in the whole wide world do you know that it was his friends? All Arabs are equal or what are you saying?
33. #25 dalia
solomon ,   bklyn   (05.03.12)
Those may be wonderful dreams. But until all arabs, especially those of Hamas, Hezbollah, PLO, et al accept Israel's (and the Jews') very existence, they shall remain dreams. And no, it is definitely not like America. That is not a dream; it is your imagination.
34. #16 Jews safe under Islam? LOL
Susan ,   Israel   (05.03.12)
"When Islam rules, Justice rules"?? Sure, like in Iran, the Gulf States, all over MENA, Islamic "justice" every day...
35. We're at war. It's sad. In 1940s my mother could not be frie
Sami ,   New York, USA   (05.03.12)
In the 1940s my mother was friends with 2 Arab brothers. However due to social pressure the friendship could not last. It's sad. We are still at war.
36. #16 Jews in Egypt, Iraq, Syria, Libya were not safe under Mu
Laila ,   Montreal, Canada   (05.03.12)
#16 Jews in Egypt, Iraq, Syria, Libya were not safe under Muslim rule. They became refugees.
37. #25 America is another dimension
David ,   Shiloh Israel   (05.03.12)
First, I agree with the author and comments associated with living in harmonious relations with Arabs wherever possible. I too live in the 'disputed territories' for me called Ha Shomron, and also have had many friendly encounters with local Arabs. I have also given a few rides to them, although with great caution. It is this word 'caution' that rules our daily activities with Arabs in our midst. We have every reason to take upmost care, our survival is more important than political correctness. However, that said, I do agree that there are enough sane local Arabs and Jewish settlers willing to at least find an accomodation with each other without resorting to acts of violence. But don't lose sight that we have dedicated enemies hell bent on our destruction. I also agree that it is elements of the extreme left that fuel the hatred on both sides, and have as much interest in genuine peace as the BBC on fair comment about Israel. Dalia, maybe you have an opinion but you don't have a view, as you cannot see what goes on here.
38. To the author: Racheli Malek-Boda
Israeli 2   (05.03.12)
The wavelengths of my thoughts used to be on the same level as yours thirty years back. I too lived in a known community near Hebron for ten years. I have spoken to Arabs as they were brought into the community through the front gate working for a settler who prefered to use cheap labor. They were very nice and polite. They too smiled and were very helpful. The problem is that it is all for the money. The moment they left the community, they resorted to the intifada. It was wise not to stop for that hitchhiker.
39. #16 are you in denial?
sk ,   USA   (05.03.12)
In Saudi Arabia, the seat of Islam, NO RELIGIONS other than Islam are tolerated. it is against the law to have any religious meetings other than Islam, and against the law to build, church, temple or synagogue. Are you in denial or on drugs????
40. Yes .. that is also my experience
Sahra Merrill ,   Israel /Canada   (05.03.12)
Yes to the settler who wrote the article ... and no to the people who wrote a single negative word . Yes to a future where people will be able to live in harmony with each other within this land ! May everyone who lives here be saturated with blessings and love and the experience of oneness awareness at every moment
41. Your tears ...
Josh ,   Kiel, Germany   (05.03.12)
... are seeds of hope that change will be possible!
42. HUNDREDS OF ARABS ARE SAVED BY ISRAELI DOCTORS,SO WHAT
...DACON9   (05.03.12)
The arabs still want to kill Jews..oh sorry, they want to kill zionsist jews not jewish jews.... beg your pardon. Racheli, i recomend you move out and give your home to an arab before ehud barak kicks you out. Until then invite an arab to stay by you
43. Bedouin in Arad
michael redbourn ,   Arad Israel   (05.04.12)
In Arad we have many stores that are operated by Bedouin. The prices and the service are good to excellent. I know that Arabs and Bedouin are seen as different by many people, but the Bedouin here are Muslim and speak Arabic between themselves. Many of the young Bedouin wear modern clothes, speak excellent Hebrew and put gel on their hair. I buy in a lot of their shops on an almost daily basis but many locals tell me I shouldn't. My reply is always the same, "We can't expect the Bedouin to leave, and if they are integrating then so much the better".
44. #42 - you mis the point there are Arabs and there are Arabs.
michael redbourn ,   Arad Israel   (05.04.12)
Arabs that want peace and those that don't. Jews that want peace and those that don't. Unfortunately you seem to be one of the latter. I get along with pretty much everyone in Arad.
45. #21 - seeing your Arab MKs parade around with Pally flags
William ,   Israel   (05.04.12)
denounce Israel as an "apartheid State" and visit enemy countries supporting the idea of destroying the Jewish nature of Israel....is not exactly a mirage. I watch it - we all watch it, then idiots like you claim the perceived threat is "political correctness". Would the next rocket attack on Beer Sheva or Northern Galilee which injures civilians, many possibly Israeli Arab, also be a mirage to you?
46. #16 - except when an Arab hated a Jew, or a Jew had power
William ,   Israel   (05.04.12)
then, Islamic laws would ensure he remained a dhimmi and had credibility less than an Arab woman. If a dispute occurred, Islamic law always sided with the Muslim. Many Jews were forbidden from many types of employment. Let's not get into the issue with Christians under Islam - in Egypt, Iraq, Gaza, etc. Is there freedom to pray or even to wear symbols of the religion in an Islamic country? Go ask the Saudis about that. Under Jewish rule, all other religions have freedom of prayer, freedom of movement, and their rights are enshrined in law. Same too in Christian countries - else, how could there be so many mosques in Europe and the US? "When Islam rules, justice rules" If that's true, then apparently true Islam doesn't rule because every country ruled by Muslims is involved in violence somehow, whether directly or by proxy. By the way, Jordan forbids Jews from entering the country with prayer items, even if to be used privately in a hotel room. That's sounds pretty racist to me.
47. Peace is better for both sides
Mohamed Qamhieh ,   Nablus   (05.04.12)
I am a Palestinian, and I think that peace is just a matter of time.
48. #44,ITS 4000 YEARS AND *YOU STILL MISS THE POINT
...DACON9   (05.04.12)
HEBRON 1929 arabs woke up that day and decided to cut off womands breasts and murder the jews just because they woke up that morning and had nothing else to do. Look throughout history. YOU #44 STILL MISS THE POINT
49. 50 shekels worth of MICRO-shmaltz! MACRO-picture=BIG ISRAEL!
Jerry ,   The Netherlands   (05.04.12)
50. #20, I spoke as a Jew, not as an Israeli or US citizen
Jake ,   USA   (05.04.12)
Hamas and Hezbollah are funded by foreigners, as are the left-wing enemy collaborators. Without foreign influence Jews & Arabs would be living in peace.
51. arabs and jews
naim ,   miami, us   (05.04.12)
I grew up with many friends, and among them i was very close to my sepharadim friends whose families emigred from turkey , when my father died they colected money to help me with the funeral , i love them and love the tora because i'm a n evangelical christian
52. Is this article satire? Hope so.
Lars ,   Atlanta, USA   (05.04.12)
If it's sincere it's a sick joke. We could all live together in peace and harmony if only some uppity Arabs didn't keep spoiling it for everyone? Really? I lived for a while, long ago in the Deep South, US and this is EXACTLY, and I mean EXACTLY, how racist whites used to talk about blacks. "If only those n's didn't want the same rights as I have, we could all get along great." This lady probably meant well, but this article and the comments here (none of which seem to get it) show how completely far gone down the racist rabbit hole Israel has gone. This woman's story seems normal and hopeful, rather than privileged and condescending. An ongoing Israeli "what's mine is mine, and what's yours is mine" philosophy of living does tend to create some tension and doubt between the "mine" and the "yours" factions. Another way to look at this is that Palestinian saved her kid, in spite of all the hardship and humiliation she/settlers put them through. That's an act of transcendent virtue to be broadly applied, not some reason for launching into a "Good Arab? Bad Arab? navel gazing exercise.
53. That's very nice but you must remember one thing:
Alina ,   Guatemala   (05.04.12)
The arab people can be very nice, but you must remember that they fight for the reason they were teached to follow, a muslim world, and at the end, they can betray you without hesitating. I know its sad, but never trust them please. And yes, continue being nice with them without remembering the bad things of the past they have done.
54. Slitting throats equals 'uppity' ?
Ilan   (05.04.12)
No. Palestinian terrorists might be their 1% but they are way more vicious than mere uppity. Thanks for showing as much understanding as your limited intellect allows. The author raises a serious issue beyond your one to two preconceived talking points
55. History
Joseph ,   London UK   (05.04.12)
If you read Sir Martin Gilbert's 'The Righteous: Unsung Heroes of the Holocaust' you will see that Poland, with such virulent Jew-hatred, also had the largest number of 'Righteous among the Nations' who risked their lives to save Jews. Good and evil can exist side by side, and sadly many Arabs are under pressure to hate all Jews, even though we should strive to live together in two states at peace.
56. Break the cycle!
Sherlock Holmes ,   London England   (05.04.12)
Surveys suggest that many, possibly most, East Jerusalem Arabs prefer Israel to the PA. It would be no surprise if many West Bank Arabs would also prefer Israel to the PA/Hamas, if they were allowed to say so without risk of being executed. 20% of Israelis are Arabs but the PA want a judenrein state in what is the heartland of Biblical Israel -- East Jerusalem, Hebron, Bethlehem etc. We have to overcome our differences and be realistic.
57. A story of Muslim Jews relations
rebecca ,   Modiin   (05.04.12)
many years ago I worked with a number of Muslims in South Africa. I became friendly with one until another one came to me and said " be careful. Her husband is high up in the radical Muslim group. All she wants from you is information". When I thought about it, our discussions centered on kids and schools, Jewish schools. That is why we struggle to trust them.
58. Discrimination
MaxR ,   Beit Shemesh, Israel   (05.04.12)
israeli israeli is completely right. The biggest discriminators are not the "settlers," but rather the high tech companies that won't hire Arabs (even if they graduated with good grades from the Technion), the large law firms in Tel Aviv (who may have at most 1 or 2 token Arabs), the media outlets (who may have 1 or 2 token Arabs), etc., etc. The same holds true for discrimination against many other minorities. Leftists are often the biggest racists, especially if they are privileged. The key is to see racism for what it is, regardless of who practices it, and, further, the only real means of peace is economic cooperation and opportunity. Speeches, peace plans, etc. will not help when people cannot properly feed their families and when they have nothing to look forward to.
59. thanks and more ....
Shadi ,   Jerusalem   (05.04.12)
Thanks for the article, as it’s a first step to change mentality of the Israeli society specially settlers and racists in Hebron and around the country, as its good to ask ourselves why they are at the traffic lights doing this job??? Why he got a lot of scratches in his face? Does he love violent or he is forced by what he live and what he sees around him? I hope that our entire problem is about money then we would have peace and no wars or intifada’s was crated. Because occupying a land it’s not a big thing but the occupation of identity and mentality and free of traveling and living and why of thinking as you mentioned this is the worst that could happened to a human beings, Again: Thanks for the incent child who mad and adult think different Thanks for the man who is a human being. Thanks you And sorry for the accident, it happened to my child 4 weeks ago, I know what it means. Sorry for my English language.
60. The Arab who saved my boy
Daniel Paul K ,   Trichur India   (05.04.12)
Some 2ooo years back a Jew told to the Jews," "You have heard that it was said, 'Love your neighbor and hate your enemy.' But I tell you: Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, that you may be sons of your Father in heaven. He causes his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous. If you love those who love you, what reward will you get? Are not even the tax collectors doing that? And if you greet only your brothers, what are you doing more than others? Do not even pagans do that? Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect.". (Mathew 5:43-48) I wonder why Jews labeled him a false prophet. He is Jesus. Don't you have answer for your dilemma in his words?
