This could have been me, my son stopped me complaining about terrible noise under our house, we are on the first floor and constantly have people under the house arguing sometimes till 4:00am. You ring the police but there is no action, I believe people have given up calling as they know no help is available unless it turns out to be tragic as in this case.

There is not enough discipline in the home/school/recreation areas. They are not punished - they should spend a minimum of 10 years in jail. At school - they should be severly punished or expelled until the police/psychiatrist allows them back in school. The parents should be held responsible for letting their children out with knives etc. and for drinking and not discipling them There should be punishment for underage drinking (the drinking-age should be raised to 21). We have in our moshav underage drivers zooming around and making noise in the middle of the night on the 4x4 dirt bikes... and they don't mind stopping in front of my house and chatting (talking extremely loudly) and revving their engines.. there should be laws, like in yesteryear, and should be followed. What are we coming to? These children are our future leaders???

This regularly happens in the UK.Same scenario group of drunken/drugged teens stab someone complaining.Its a result of poor parenting and western culture .

And that in connection with noise pollution of all sorts and levels the authorities should be far more on the ball. That's why in cases like this I find the traditional brachah "Dayan HaEmet" slightly "misplaced". The stress should be far more on this worldly LAW and ORDER. Once again, the authorities have to take noise pollution far more seriously!! In other words they are co-responsible here. It is beyond any comprehension why people would react so violently. I believe a "case" like this warrants the death penalty. How G-d awful SAD!! Once more, authorities DO your job!! It isn't just a bit of noise. I suffer from a severe kind of tinnitus and can't filter any sounds either. Too much noise for too long CAN be a total ONSLAUGHT against one's nerves. I can very well understand why the victim impulsively and deep down trustingly went outside to ask those "people" to pipe it down. Their reaction (even if drugged) is beyond the pale of humanity. No, "Dayan HaEmet" feels wrong. People are responsible, the perpetrators of this heinous act and the authorities. There are no words to say to the widow and her little daughter. Later on realise that what the victim did was right, normal and good for a mentsh who trusts in his fellow human beings core of goodness. ALAV HASHALOM.
