61. #51 just - obfuscation, hah!
solomon ,   bklyn   (05.06.12)
There IS no daylight between anti-Jewish and anti-Israel. Although the dictionary definitions are different, the anti-semitic crowd has co-opted both phrases to mean the same. At “anti-Israel” demonstrations you will invariably see “Kill the Jews” signs and other signs referring not to Isreal, but Jews. Most anti-Israel efforts are towards, not changing its actions, but on its destruction; a more PC way to destroy the Jews. You blame the victim for the actions of the attackers. Open your eyes.
62. #19 Blame the messenger
Cynthia ,   USA   (05.06.12)
So you can continue to hide under your blanket. Meotti is exposing those involved in the decay of European society. Ignoring this problem will not make it go away.
63. #57 Window into logic of racism
Cynthia ,   USA   (05.06.12)
Please explain your logic Peter? How is criticism of Norman Finkelstein justification to block Jewish students from studies?
64. 1. i can't expalin what i don't understand...but u r correct

65. 51...that's because ALL anti semites ARE anti Israel
(05.06.12)
it is one and the same.

Bertram ,   London, UK   (05.06.12)
The point is not about the disppearance of facts. On the contrary, it is Meotti's fabrication of facts in the face of statistical evidence that is the issue.

I actually think there are difficulties surrounding Israel and anti-Jewish sentiments. The fact that historically there were significant sections of the Diaspora Jewish population that were anti-Zionist and that sections of the Haredi population as well as others who still are, talk of 'no daylight between anti-Jewish and anti-Israel' seems problematic. Even worse, in this context, is the use of the worn-out and libellous cliche of 'self-hating Jew'. While I agree that anti-Zionism is often a mask for antisemitism this should not be the basis for closing down criticism - even severe criticism - of the policies of Israeli governments whether from the right or from the left.
69. @Bertram
Neptune ,   Portland, Maine   (05.06.12)
The article documents 1) hindrance of pro-Israel speech, & 2) intimidation of speakers, such as Benny Morris (no radical right wing Israeli he). Thus, the free speech issue is the opposite of what you suggest.
70. Ne abbiamo abbastanza, signor Meotti
Ralph ,   Rome, Italy   (05.06.12)
Dear Mr. Meotti, why do you keep on writing the same things? No creativity, no new ideas, no deep thinking. Always the same paranoia. Do you care for the future of the Jews of the world or you have just found a niche where you get paid easily even if you write always the same things? And you, readers of Ynetnews, why do you even bother to read what he writes?

solomon ,   bklyn   (05.06.12)
I understand you positing your points about the UK Jewish population as facts and I accept them as such. But you give no statistical evidence nor evidence of fabrication regarding Meotti’s statements about the rest of Europe.

solomon ,   bklyn   (05.06.12)
I agree with you on this point. However I took post #51 as stating that most of the time there is no obfuscation and “anti-Israel” means exactly that. I very much disagree in that I mostly hear of “anti-Israel” demonstrations, yet video and sound bites show them to be “anti-Jew”.
73. Academic Anti-Semitism
Syd Chaden ,   Palermo Calif USA   (05.07.12)
Did Anti-Semitism come back to the campus, or did it never leave? In 1947 I applied to several US universities for admission, and was told that they already had their quotas of Jews, or, words to that effect. Fraternities, sororities, and student groups openly imposed a "No Jews Allowed" policy. Those policies generally faded away, until the oil-rich Arab countries began sending their sons to American universities. They provided generous endowments to establish Islamic studies, which became a major source for university funding. So, now, the universities are filled with Muslim students who don't like Jews, and with academia, which likes Muslim funding. Academia hasn't changed. It is just as unprincipled as it was sixty years ago. Of course, liberal Jews haven't changed, either. They hate Israel, because of their claim that Israel is responsible for anti-Semitism. Of course, Israel didn't exist at the time of the Holocaust. But, liberal Jews existed, even then, and so did anti-Semitism.
74. I agree with 1 poster here: COME TO ISRAEL FOR UNIVERSITY!!
EZRA THE PROUD JEW ,   USA-ISRAEL   (05.07.12)
Some of the best colleges in the world are in Israel. Come here! Enrich your lives and become a part of the most progressive and innovative people on planet earth!!!!!! Chai Yisrael!
75. Mr. Meotti served the truth
Shimon ,   Ny   (05.07.12)
I have never seen before an article like this on the academic world. Thank you
76. dazed and confused
bill ,   canada   (05.07.12)
did jews notice the academic boycotts of israel? no? completely uniformed; amazing how stunned jews are; there are numerous boycotts of israel; jews do not know because it is illegal to report; lots of surprizes in this world for poorly informed jews; western academia reject apartheid states like israel
77. You are 100% right!
Reuven   (05.07.12)
I believe there's going to be a p-ro-Israel backlash in academia,, in the not to distant future.
78. Jews are very welcome on campus
Aharon   (05.07.12)
As a student at a leading Western university I've not once felt intimidated or unwelcome because of my Jewishness. However, if someone expresses objectionable views on any issue - they are challenged. This is the nature of universities. If a Jew expresses support for illegal settlements and a complete disregard for Palestinian rights, those views are rightly subject to criticism.
79. Don't believe everything you read.
nibor ,   israel   (05.07.12)
A few years ago a letter was going around on the web about a college in Kansas that had removed Holocaust studies from its' curriculum. I contacted the university in anger and was told none of it was true, and they were in fact very pro Israel.

Kissinger also said "I haven't got a single innocent life on my conscience" See, I have read history.

Many of us read what he writes because it’s true. We prefer not hiding our heads in the sand from too much PC.
82. to #43 the journalist isn't jewish or Israeli
ghostq   (05.07.12)
so it is objective point of view.
83. to 78 Your democratic values are worth trash, another leftis
Ari ,   Jerusalem   (05.07.12)
If you are antisettlement is ok if you are prosttlements then you can be banned. Since when your kind has the absulute right to things. As you said people are challenged on ojectionable issues. THat is ok, But when the other side wants to expose his wiews with facts he is not allowed. With thugs you have prevented Pro-Israeli speach. You have organize Palestinian week but objected to Israeli week. then you add. " If a Jew expresses support for illegal settlements and a complete disregard for Palestinian rights, those views are rightly subject to criticism. " One thing is criticism and one thing is violent criticism. As much as the anti Israeli have rights according to nature of universities. So trhe Pro-Israeli. But thugs from the Propalestinians are preventing this. Besides who in hell you think you are to think you hold the truth? Did you know that Palestinians don't accept the existence of all Israel. It's not only a settlement problem This is Fact. Look At the constitution of Hamas, Jihad even of Alfatah. THey Want a Palestine from the Jordan River to the Mediterranean and from MEtullah to Eilat. NO ISRAEL Palestinian Rights? where were the Palestinian Rights from 1948 to 1967? There were no Palestinians suddenly they appear in the political scene in the 70's You have engrace the Palestinian narrative full of lies. The Mayority of those called Palestinians came to the Palestinian mandate in the 20's. The arab Emigration to Palestine was as big of the jewish one maybe more. Where were the rights of peacefull Jews living in Hebron in 1929 buthcherd by the arabs incited by the Mufty. There were no settlements then. He who renegues from his own is destined to disapear. HE WHO BLESS ISRAEL WILL BE BLESSED AND HE WHO CURSES ISRAEL WILL BE CURSED. Dam You. After 2000 Years of persecutings you think The Jews dont deserve a piece of land? Jordan is Palestine. Jordan was created by cutting 80% of Palestine. AS a jew you are a disgrace. with guys like you Israel would have never been created. . Maybe some day you will suffer fir being a Jew. It happen in Spain and it Happen in Germany. No matter how liberal you are at the end you are a DAM JEW..Youl see

the problem in this article is it is as -- evry one knows he sells potatoes but obliged to say it is tomatoes - there is something wrong in conseption of human mindes
85. Campus Politics in the UK are a particular problem
Tim ,   Brighton   (05.07.12)
1. There is no doubt in my mind that for many - the PSC in the UK is a cloak for them to express freely their rabid Anti Jewish racism 2. The line betweeen Political Activism and Racism in many cases has been breached and in many cases is supported by Academics and Unions 3. In addtion University Authorities seem compelety inept at making the distinction between political argument and discourse and racist attacks on Israels Jewish and Non Jewish supporters and their silence and inaction simply serving to condone it 4. The levels of bullying, threats and abuse is growing...especially to stifle and drown out any proper debate and examination of the facts 5. As one Union Ofiicioal said to me..unfortunately it looks like something very serious needs to happen before Government and University Authorities act to stamp out this menace 6. Y Net stories such as this serve only to alarm undergraduates seeking to study. Many will go through university without any problems but many are encountering racism that are affecting their studies well being and state of mind 7. This is why Israel must gather its resources to create a new English Speaking University with the highest standrads of excelllence majoring in sciences, technologies and medicine to attract growing numbers of undergraduates looking to spend their hard earned money on a University that will welcome them not one that does not
86. #70 Ralph: Just stop reading it
berlonski ,   berlin   (05.07.12)
Ralph, just stop reading Meotti's stuff here. As you said: never nothing new, like a broken record. And next week: "Jews unwelcome in European public swimming pools, dominated by Muslim immigrants" or so ... Just leave his columns here to readers who love to stay in a loop and just need constant self-affirmation of things they already believe in instead of getting new insights.
87.  70 Ralph: Non leggerlo
Fabrizio ,   Arezzo,Italy   (05.07.12)
Giulio Meotti is NOT getting paid (it is truth) he writes for the glory
88. 76 from Canada
Mickey ,   Sydney, Australia   (05.07.12)
Forbidden to report! By whom? Israel is not and has never been an apartheid state. It is a democratic country which allows all sectors of the population to participate in the political, social and economic endeavors.
89. #78. Even terrorist P.A. knows Judea/Samaria are legal.
Chaim ,   Israel   (05.07.12)
#78. Ironically, while your foolish post was intended to highlight democracy on your campus, it accomplished exactly the opposite. Your post said that some ideas are welcomed while others are not. This is exactly the OPPOSITE of democracy. Judea and Samaria are 100% legal and this fact has been incontrovertibly proven by many world leading law experts. The terrorist P.A. still lacks the courage even to publicly debate MK Danny Ayalon on the issue. Even IT knows Judea and Samaria are legal.
