1. $100M is spent on early elections thanks to Beinish
Gil Ronen   (05.07.12)
Rina Matzliach, an ultra-leftist political reporter-analysts's opinion is that it was recently retired Supreme Court President Dorit Beinisch who made the elections happen. It was Beinisch who handed down a decision to annul the Tal Law regulating the recruitment of hareidim to the IDF, and to set a firm date for its expiration, she noted. According to Matzliach, by doing this Beinisch essentially forced Yisrael Beiteinu's Avigdor Lieberman to put forth his alternative to the Tal Law, and made it impossible for Netanyahu to hold together his coalition, which also relies on hareidi parties. Matzliach's analysis is in line with a statement made by United Torah Judaism's MK Yaakov Litzman, who said after Beinisch's ruling that she had intentionally left it for the end of her term. "This matter was on her table for four years," Litzman told IDF Radio. "She did not make a decision until the last moment. This decision on the Tal Law is a 'hit and run' by Beinisch." "Judges know politics, too," he explained. "They know how to leave an impression for the years to come."
2. Netanyahu's Great Achievements?
David ,   Karmiel, Israel   (05.07.12)
Yes, he let the Railways blackmail the country and the head of the Railway Union make a fool of his Government and his Transport Minister. Yes, he failed to ensure that Israel is supplied with with natural gas for the power stations from the gas fields off our coast and placing us in the hands of the Egyptians who would love to see Israel destroyed! He has divided country along religious lines and brought the country into a state of hatred and violence between the religious and the secular! He has brought the middle class of Israel close to the poverty line and neglected the plight of the Holocaust Survivors, people who built this country and are forced to live in squalor. He has poured huge sums of taxpayers money into the coffers of the Haredim instead of using this money to finance more Iron Dome units to be placed in the North which lives under the constant threat Hezbollah bombardment. The list of Netanyahu's failings is too long to be published here but his great achievement is that of servicing his own ego. There he is a champion of champions!
3. #1 look at the bright side
israel israeli ,   tel aviv   (05.07.12)
The $100 M is nothing compared to the other damage Beinish caused Israel.
4. #1 and #3: Beinish is gone. There is a new Chief Justice!
David ,   Karmiel, Israel   (05.07.12)
President of the Supreme court, Chief Justice Gronis, an appointment of the PRESENT Government, could have overturned Beinish's ruling but he, quite correctly, interpreted the law. Let us not forget that even the Government is not above the law although the Haredim think they are! What is so wrong about the Ultra-Orthodox serving this country that protects them from the Arabs who would love to slaughter them with all the Jews here. They take plenty from the state. They MUST also give!
5. #1 $100M that could've gone to Yeshivot
(05.07.12)
6. THROW BARAK OUT NOW!
Yoni ,   Shomron   (05.07.12)
It's time Bibi realizes that we, the Likud, don't want Ehud Barak as Defense Minister (or anything at all!). We want Boogey Yaalon! We want someone who CARES about Eretz Yisrael, and not just his career and ego like Barak! If Bibi doesn't get it, he might be out of a job pretty soon!
7. #4 good question
israel israeli ,   tel aviv   (05.07.12)
Beinish did not interpret the law which is what the US Supreme Court does. Beinish just decided that the Tal law was illegal according to her personal beliefs. That said, you ask an excellent question, why shouldn't Haredim serve the country? First, many do (I serve with them) and many don't, just like seculars. But you could also ask why Bedouin and Druze women don't serve, or why Christian and Muslim Arabs don't serve. I do not know the answer, though a partial answer is that the army doesn't want them. For a real answer to your question you should ask Shimon Peres who served in the Rabin government when the law was passed.
8. The government's great achievements?
Rich ,   Toronto, Canada   (05.07.12)
The ability to fool Israelis into thinking that they have a democracy where the people rule. And if you know that the government is not right, why should you follow them into some hellish war that is not going to benefit you financially? It makes no sense. You've been living in a dream world. It's time to wake up to the real world.
