This may end up costing Yair Lapid votes on election day. Lapid has no real policies other than haredi bashing and forced enlistment was one of his main policies but if this can pass before the election Lapid can't campaign on this issue anymore and its an issue thats very close to the hearts of the secular left who are some of his target voters. Even if they don't get read before the elections Liberman can campaign on them being his bills that he has already submitted whilst all Lapid can do is say he is going to push for something like this.
2. To serve ,or to be served...
ORA ,   JERUSALEM   (05.07.12)
That s the question. The answer is : to serve. showing that way ,the real meaning of the Tora: Veahavta at Reeha Kamoha.
3. The Hypocrisy and anti-Haredism of the Left

70% of the secular community are draft dodgers and not a word from Lieberman, Lapid, Livni, and other haredi haters. Would you have the courage to stop state funding for Arabs and Bedouins too?

Nobody notices the secular draft dodgers because the bulk don't dodge the draft. The haredi are legally allowed to chose to serve or not to serve and have been since the 50s but everybody hates the haredi so they make a big issue out of it even though the IDF has no great desire to enlist them. It would be nice if for once the politicians would address the issue of the seculars who illegally dodge the draft.
5. Just consider the amazing benefits

One of the most effective ways of binding and uniting Israels diverse multicultural society is through a heightened unity of common purpose embracing all Israelis of all faiths One of the most effective ways is through National Service for all without exception wether within the IDF or Auxillary Services or assigned to specific Community Projects This would cut draft dodging to virtually zero but would also serve to strengthen social and communal cohesion, understanding and tolerance
6. I question the wisdom ...

... of requiring Moslems to serve in the IDF. Druze, Bedouin and Circassians are one thing -- but they all have a long and storied claim of valiant service. I would certainly not trust your average resident of Umm Al Fahm to serve loyally in the IDF, and the external pressures brought to bear upon them from elements not terribly friendly to the State of Israel may be very difficult to overcome. The haredim? Most assuredly. Or national service. But going to yeshiva and studying Torah is hardly grounds for exemption.
