1. USA not so much further up on the list!
(05.15.12)
This year, the United States ranks 25th. "While the US has moved up in the rankings, ahead of last year's 31st place, we still fall below most wealthy nations," said Carolyn Miles, President & CEO of Save the Children. "A woman in the US is more than 7 times as likely to die of a pregnancy-related cause in her lifetime than a woman in Italy or Ireland. When it comes to the number of children enrolled in preschools or the political status of women, the United States also places in the bottom 10 countries of the developed world."
2. Ranking Cuba ahead of Israel is a joke
Menachem ,   Israel   (05.15.12)
Despite its imperfections Israel clearly belongs to the top 20 most developed countries in the world.
3. Sure, Unless You're a Mom
Jason ,   Tel Aviv, Israel   (05.15.12)
Or especially if you're a single mom.
4. 45 sounds about right
R ,   Israel   (05.15.12)
It is next to impossible to make ends meet on one salary so women must work. In many workplaces, the workday is 9 hours, sometimes 9.5. Between that and the commute, there is little energy left to devote to the kids, house, and husband. And I don't care what anyone says, if the house is a mess, no one will fault the husband, even if the wife works longer hours. And yes, I better get off the internet and back to work!
5. @1: Look At (Lack) Of US Health Policy
emanon ,   USA   (05.15.12)
It is easy to see why the US is so far down on the list. Despite being a wealthy nation and technologically advanced, we lack a Comprehensive National Health Policy. All too many people see such a policy as a bad thing. Why is a national health care system with cheap medications and low cost medical care available to EVERYBODY such a bad thing? Becasu too many misguided people are afraid of the "S" word: socialism. If it reduces my health care costs and provides a better life for me, my family and my future grandchildren, I don't care what you call it, I WANT IT!
6. #5: what's the point in complaining about it in an Israeli p
a ,   usa   (05.15.12)
Fight for it in US. President Obama promised and failed. Republicans will destroy whatever there is of Pres. Obama's attempt.
7. What statistics do not tell
rivkah f. ,   jerusalem   (05.15.12)
These statistics do not report that Israel is different from the other countries. Here the close and extended families often lend parents -- in this case, mothers-- a helping hand. The "savtas" & "sabas" (grandparents), uncles, aunts, cousins and even neighbors & friends often pitch in & babysit, pick kids up from kindergarten & school. Moms may actually do better here in many ways because the family remains a cohesive & viable institution.

I am no fan of Cuba, however I don't believe it is a joke because medical care in Cuba far surpasses that of the US, then again it is hard to believe that the US is ahead of Israel because Israel has a great medical system in place as compared to the US. Israel is a developed country but the problem is it's relatively low salaries and outrageous tax rate which lowers the standard of living significantly.
9. Im so glad this is finally coming out
shoshi ,   jerusalem   (06.02.12)
I'm so glad , that israeli are finally repporting news like this one. Israel is a very dangerous place for young women, the system works to help the state abuse it's citiznds, social workers are part of the abusive system, women, mothers are not save. I lost my baby while I had to scape from my husband for his abuses, he got the house keept his job lived normaly, I lost everthing and on top they put me in a shelter that is a jale but nobody will admit that and they where to slow, I misscarrige my child, I had a discusion with the psykiater she together with the social workers and my husband , wanted to diagnos me with a mental illness that I never had or suffer from. my only scape is to lieve Israel and bitter knowing there are so many women and children suffering from this sort of abuse.
