1. Don't Dump it on Israel
Yaniv ,   Israel   (05.15.12)
We left Gaza, for the better or worse is up for argument (my opinion not really) but that is a different argument, we left, so lets leave, we are not in charge of them, they are in charge of themselves, Israel should not have to pay for their food, electricity, gas, or anything else. We are also at war with them, which is another thing to discuss. We left so lets leave completely.
2. cut electricity to gaza
Real vision ,   usa   (05.15.12)
I don't understand why Israel is expected to supply gaza with any power...Let them get it from Egypt
3. Disengagement NOW!
Jake in Jerusalem ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (05.15.12)
Where does Ynet dig up these "commentators"? There is no rational reason at all for Israel to be exporting scarce water and electricity to foreign entities. Saudi Arabia doesn't export snow to anyone, either. The Gazans got their supplies from Egypt before 1967 and they can do the same today. If you really want to disengage from the "Palis", then do it - don't just pretend to do it. Oh, and one more thing: Let's send the "commentators" and "journalists" to Gaza, too. Yakir, I'm sure that you will just love it there. Just ask Vittorio Arrigoni...
4. Power grid
Arnold ,   Canada   (05.15.12)
There is no mention of payment by Gaza for electricity supplied by Israel. Egypt can easily power up Gaza's electrical grid. Let the Egyptians chase after Hamas for payments.
5. LUNACY: EXchange electricity for rockets & death threats.
Bernie ,   Erehwon, USA   (05.15.12)
Now that's the liberal left, be it in Israel, USA or elsewhere. Humanitarian gestures for savages are bound to win them over.
6. and until then when we can export they get cut off. end of s
ralph   (05.15.12)
story. we owe them nothing.
7. Some great ideas at the end of the article.
Katamon ,   Jerusalem   (05.15.12)
I still haven't understood the whole reason why Israel should be supplying power to Gaza in the first place. It has nothing to do with the electricity shortages that might occur this summer.
8. Did the author invent perpetual motion or something?
Michael Berg ,   Toronto   (05.15.12)
There is a limit to how much electricity can be supplied without increasing the price and Israel has price controls.
9. Egyptian terrorists in sympathy with gaza terrorists blew up
Bunnie Meyer ,   Los Angeles, CA USA   (05.15.12)
the gas pipeline. The gaza terrorists deserve no sympathy, let egypt supply them through the tunnels like all the other goods.
10. Not interested in reading this piece of garbage-no comments
Marco ,   Spain   (05.15.12)
11. Seriously?!? Who is this guy? Other than
8th Generation Sabra   (05.15.12)
the 2nd to last paragraph which is the only sensible statement in the article, the rest of drivel the writer is spewing is beyond the pale.
12. How about competition?
Rachel ,   US   (05.15.12)
Eradicate the monopolies!
13. Charity begins at home.
Philip ,   Afula, Israel   (05.15.12)
Well maybe all the loving brothers from the other 22 or 23 muslem countries can all chip in and see that their brothers and sisters have enough electricity. Why should we bother with these rocket propelled Jihadists.
14. We pulled out from Gaza and they bombed us
Barak ,   Israel   (05.15.12)
and they tried to bomb our power station in Ashkelon. so why should we give them electricity? They can buy there power from Egypt! They are the ones that pour their sewage, from Judea and Samaria, down to Israel!!! you should got your facts right first!
15. Why not?
Beary White ,   Norway   (05.15.12)
The islamic peace nation of Egypt :-) has unregulary stopped the delivernece of gas to produce electricity, then why shouldn't the islam followers suffer from their brothers deed in Egypt? Then Egypt would e responsible to deliver power to the strip...
16. Yakir, you leave out one huge detail:
Israeli ,   Haifa   (05.15.12)
The Strip defaults on their electicity bills year after year and they have been essentially getting their electricity for free, yes, while they use OUR electricity to build bombs. To kill us and discuss plans on how to destroy us. Why don't they free load off of Egypt? You know why! Egypt won't put up with them. So why do we?
17. Let the fellows blowing up the pipeline sit in the dark
Sam   (05.15.12)
Simple
18. Gilad ERDAN
Alan howard ,   Hrrzalia/Los Angeles   (05.15.12)
It was a great idea, why should we supply electricity to our enemy. Perhaps by holding back we can help them when they decide to negotiate in good faith. But as long as they teach hate and named streets after shahidim terrorists we should not help them at all. Egypt has reneged on the agreement to sell us gas, so let Egypt supply gaza with energy!
19. gaza and power
solomon ,   bklyn   (05.15.12)
1.The problem is actually a dispute between the PA and Hamas: the PA says Hamas hasn't paid its bills (Hamas money goes to Israel through the PA). It's not Israel's job to solve the arabs' problems. 2. “the world’s only managers who plead with customers not to use the product.” Wrong. Electric companies in the US do it every summer. This probably also happens in other countries as well.
20. No, start by cutting of IEC workers!
Brian Cohen ,   Judean Peoples Front   (05.15.12)
Screw them and their electricity bills that we have to pay for and their $20 billion deficit that our grandchildren will pay for. Cut off their free electricity now! If they don't like it, fire the lot of them and hire people to take their places at salaries that match the average values, not the overinflated fatcat salaries and huge perks that we pay for!!!
21. 99% of Israel's problems are because we continue to play the
Israel's ,   own FAULT!!!!!!!   (05.15.12)
FRIAR!!!!!!!!!! Every terrorist and country knows Israel will put out if they just scream loud and long enough.
22. Egypt first cut of the gas
(05.15.12)
let THEM supply Gaza now with electricity
23. Step in
Danny ,   NYC   (05.15.12)
When the garbage reaches ankle deep, the politicians will step in ...
24. Gas pipes from Egypt to Israel
Joseph ,   London UK   (05.15.12)
Perhaps every time terrorists attack the pipeline for Egyptian gas bought by Israel, Israel could tempoorarily decrese electricity to Gaza, just long enough to be a reminder that we need each other, but not long enough to becomes collective punishment.
25. Yakir: Since when r we Gazan babysitters?
EZRA THE PROUD JEW ,   USA-ISRAEL   (05.15.12)
Its one thing to bust on the power industry for coming up short; but quite another to tell us not to saddle Gaza with cutting electricity to them. Thats an absurd assertion. Gaza is an enemy; they launch rockets and mortars constantly; and they CALL FOR disengagement. They receive MILLIONS in aid: where's the nation building? Where is Hamas when it comes to providing water, Power and Gas? Its NOT OUR PROBLEM ANYMORE: We left, gave them their land; now they must fend for themselves. They should cry to the machers in Egypt. Pitiful suggestion. You are saddling US with palestinian problems AFTER we gave them what they asked for: their slice of land. Ridiculous.
26. Gaza should rely on Egypt
David ,   Israel   (05.15.12)
For all it's needs. Why should the state that isn't recognized and is constantly attacked from Gaza be the one to supply it with anything at all?
27. Israel must supply electricity
Ali Clark ,   Scotland   (05.15.12)
Israel is the occupier .If Jerusalem is occupied then so is Gaza.Israel must stand by its commitment
28. Cut off their power, water & sewage
Terminate Gaza   (05.15.12)
Until they surrender unconditionally
29. Not collective punnishment - economics
rebecca ,   Modiin   (05.15.12)
When Egypt broke the Oslo accords and stopped supplying us with gas, which is the cause of the current situation, everyone was quick to say economics not politics, and def not "Egypt cant keep the pipeline open". But when we get the backlash of this "economics" we are not allowed to apply the same principal? This is not punishment. Israels own customers should just come first.
30. Get out of their land if ..
Tony Singh ,   Delhi, India   (05.15.12)
Mr. Yakir, just get out of their land ( and please don't bring Moses into it) then they will take care of themselves. Until then grin and bear it!
