1. LOL...
Peter ,   Vienna-Austria   (05.25.12)
"Meanwhile, the Israelis, who keep yelling “hold us back,” know well that without America one cannot gravely hurt Iran, if at all. " Tell that to the likes of Sarah B and Noodles...currently residing in the US of course....
2. Eitan Haber made me laugh & gag because of ..
Palestinian   (05.25.12)
"hold us back” it reminds me of the "very famous & far-famed in Ynet" Sarah B
3. The point isn't to stop them
Vlad   (05.25.12)
It is only a matter of time before the Iranian people get fed up with the Mullahs in power, and the Islamic Republic will go the way of the Pahlavi Dynasty. The job is to put off Iran's nuclear program until that day comes.
4. Haber and Peter are missing one fact
Marco ,   Spain   (05.25.12)
On January 20, 2013 President Romney will be inaugurated in the White House. Same day Newt Gingrich will become Secretary of State. This will change all the parameters in the equation that morons Haber and Peter are so eager to promote.
5. Peter seems to have missed the point of this article
Marco ,   Spain   (05.25.12)
Haber makes a thinly veiled insinuation that Peter's home in Vienna will be under Iran's nuclear umbrella too.
6. LMAO #1 peter If I'm Not Mistaken

This little austrian with a Cheesie little mustache, has Tried This. But the coward couldnt face his Humiliation and the Lose his dream. Israel Is HERE TO STAY till Our Creature Says So!!! And this ain't iran. Aveterzan Dumkupf
7. Haber
michael Pielet ,   israel   (05.25.12)
Whose side is Haber on? Israel will do what she has to do. In the end Iran's nuclear capability will be destroyed.
8. Only reg
Craig ,   Melbounre, Australia   (05.25.12)
Only regime change in Iran will stop them going nuclear. Anyone kidding themselves that a paranoid zealot leadership will act responsibly is Neville Chamberlain circa 1939. Who wants war? No one. However, if Israel wants to survive, Iran cannot be allowed to go nuclear, and while bombing nuclear facilities is a stop-gap measure, only Iranian regime change to a responsible moderate democratic government that recognises Israel’s right to exist will be enough change the status-quo. Unfortunately, this is the big fat white elephant sitting in the room no one wants to acknowledge.
9. to Eitan Haber
Palestinian   (05.25.12)
David ben Gurion, Ernst Gergmann, Shimon Peres and Emmanuel Prat were born ---->Europe "Poland" "Germany" .....Palestinians were living in their homes when Palestine was a province in the Ottoman Empire. Israelis have to acknowledge that the gangs of Irgun, Hagana or Stern which founded israel cannot have power all the time, things will continue to change and Israelis of Europe need to make peace with the Palestinians before its too late.
10. Non-issue
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (05.25.12)
Did not the Allies pull out all the stops to halt Nazi Germany? Did not the United States pull out all the stops to halt Japan? Why shouldn't Israel pull out all the stops to halt the mad regime in Iran -- who just days ago reaffirmed their absolute commitment to the destruction of the State of Israel -- and deal with the fallout (no pun intended) once civilization has been saved? There really is no difference. Nations have every right to secure their survival. If that means the complete and utter destruction of a foe that threatens them existentially, then so be it. In the short run, Iran represents a grave existential threat to Israel. In a somewhat longer run, Iran represents a grave threat to civilization as we know it. The use of weapons of mass destruction are therefore in order. Just as they were in Japan, when civilization was decidedly NOT at stake, but where the United States simply decided that it did not want to risk the lives of one million United States servicemen by a prolonged war involving an invasion of the home islands of Japan. Half a million Japanese civilians paid the price. Almost four million German civilians paid the price when the Allied forces carpet bombed Germany relentlessly. There, the failure to stop Germany would have sounded the death knell of civilization. Had Germany refused to surrender, there is no doubt that Fat Boy or Little Man would have been used in Germany. It probably SHOULD have been, anyway. There is no shortage of dictators who have taught us that their threats must be taken seriously. Iran must be stopped. No matter what.
11. Quite the contrary, Haber.
Israeli 2   (05.25.12)
When Israeli intelligent and military chiefs are speaking to Chinese V.P., it is indeed about making certain China will not interfere militarily. It is a matter of reassurance for the Chinese Israel will not let it go. They should not.
12. #1 Peter
Moshe of Rockville ,   Rockville,MD USA   (05.25.12)
Since the Jewish State has 200-400 nuclear devices, one can hardly say,"hold us back." If the Iranian mullahs are ever in a position to imminently threaten Israel with nuclear weapons, the IDF would strike first and send that nation back to the stone age.Let us hope that the people of Iran would remove such mullahs before such tragedy could take effect.
13. No sleep
Curtis ,   USA   (05.25.12)
"He that keepeth Israel neither slumbereth nor sleepeth." Israel's enemies have a daunting task if they think they will be able to destroy Israel. "Then you shall say to Pharaoh, 'Israel is My firstborn son,...'"
14. Ghetto mentality "Be a Man of the Book,,accept Bishop'"

says Great Ghetto Wizard Haber. Is it why Israel needed to be created ?
15. Oh dear oh dear has Israel ever been played by Iran!
William ,   UK   (05.25.12)
Guess it wasn't such a smart idea to spend so much time and energy attacking Obama (who leads the nation that is your last ally on the planet.) I wonder if a year or two ago when he was giving Israel sage advice (that the entire rest of the world agrees with) and Israeli leaders ignored him, Obama decided that maybe he wouldn't keep going all out to stop Iran. Why should he when Israelis always come across as so incredibly ungrateful (just read the talkbacks directed toward the US on this website.) Israelis really should blame themselves for how their strategic situation in the world has progressively weakened over the past ten years. But of course very few will.
16. Iran 1, Israel 0

Couldn't have happened to a nicer people. Haha!
17. Inevitable Narrative Signals Indeterminacy
mick ,   usa   (05.25.12)
The "its just going to happen" argument is almost always used to obscure the very real possibility of something else happening. For one thing the creation of a heug unity government is a reliable indicator that someone is going to get it.
18. Haber asks a good question
spyguy ,   Seattle USA   (05.25.12)
Unlike most people in Israel, Haber, understands that if the Iranians decide to get nuclear weapons (which they have NOT done at this point in time), there is NOTHING Israel or the US or anyone else can do about it. Attacking Iran will NOT stop Iran , but will ensure Iran builds nukes. But the reality is Israel is ALREADY within range of many other nukes. Muslim Pakistan can already nuke Israel if it decides to.
19. Mr.Haber at least, is consistent. His defiatist stance is
tom ,   tel aviv   (05.25.12)
confirmed in every article he writes. How will Israel survive? Only by trying to stop Iranian ambitions and succeeding at it! If not, then I'd say: let's join our brothers&sisters in Diaspora and let's disperse one more time, until human race learns to accept The Jew or, until Hell freezes over, whichever comes first.
20. The Obama-Ashton travelling Circus
Dan Goldman   (05.25.12)

The hilarious comedy circus "P5+1 nuclear talks" going thru all cities in the world, the greatest Travelling Circus show on the Planet ! They are going to charge an admission fee of $5/ticket and make a profit soon...ha ha !
21. Enough is ENOUGH !
Sam Weismann   (05.25.12)
Enough is ENOUGH ! And the next round of talks scheduled in Tahiti or Hawaii. Obama, Ashton & Europe are stringing it along nicely ! They want to prolong the talks so that Israel will have its hands tied while Iran continues merrily on its nuke work. The zone of immunity is almost reached. Netanyahu should attack immediately.
22. To: No. 1
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (05.25.12)
Are you sure about my present whereabouts, Peterkin? I think not. That's one view. That would be the view that said that Israel could not possibly survive a three-front war. Not only did Israel survive, but it won that war. In six days. Leaving, of course, the seventh day to rest. If Israel utilizes everything available in its formidable arsenal, it won't take six days. It might not even take six hours. Perhaps you ought to hightail it to Iran now, where you can don your jackboots and your Nazi uniform and stand with your dear friends the Iranian mullahs on the ramparts while Israel destroys Iran from the roots up. Don't underestimate Israel's resolve. We aren't too concerned with distinguishing between Iranian bluff and bluster and Iranian intent. We know what has been said for over thirty years now. Why would that be a riswk that Israel should willingly undertake? The words "Never Again" actually resonate quite strongly with us. I do understand that the concept eludes your alleged brain. You do, after all, come from the country that produced the very worst Nazis of them all. How it must gall you to see a strong, thriving Israel, despite your countrymen's best efforts! I derive considerable satisfaction from that.
23. Much truth in this article...
TaylorT ,   Earth   (05.25.12)
...especially about Israel's silly 'hold me back' policy.' Well, guess what? No one's holding you back. What's are you going to do? Because we're all waiting. Really, anytime you're ready.
24. To: No. 2
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (05.25.12)
Do you think that Iran will fare any better against Israel than the ersatz "Palestinians" did? Think again. We have solidly kicked Arab ass on six occasions. Iran may be large, but it is inept. We saw that in their pathetic eight-year engagement against Iraq. They are no match for Israel, any more than you were. The Arabs are just lucky that Israel cared about civilian casualties. No such constraints will trouble Israel in any conflict with Iran. More importantly for you, no such constraints will trouble Israel in any foolish enterprise by Hamas or Hezbollah to challenge Israel. We'll mow over you as if you weren't there. Please make no mistake about that.
25. To: Vlad at No. 3
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (05.25.12)
The point may well be to bring that day about. The Iranian people are cowed and helpless. Destroy the regime, and the Iranian people will take care of the rest. Internal dissension in Iran -- which has been going on for quite some time and which has been ruthlessly suppressed -- has seriously weakened Iran. Iran doesn't even trust its regular army enough to train them properly or provide them with adequate weapons. Only the Revolutionary Guard -- Moslem fanatics -- are trusted, and they are WAYYYY too busy putting down the growing internal unrest in Iran. Iran is a strutting peacock, going against a lion. Who's going to win that one?
26. Why not 20 years ago?
Michael Storch ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (05.25.12)
I still do not understand what is taking the Iranians so long. They've always had the resources and, since Saddam invaded 30 years ago, they've certainly had the motivation.
27. #22 Mr. Haber, I think you need to prepare for ...
Noodles ,   Coney Island   (05.25.12)
a crippling attack on Iran's nuclear program, that will be quite a bit more devastating than the average pundit imagines. When Israel assembled it's arsenal nobody was in a position to oppose it physically.
28. #1 Peter, you must be really naive
Noodles ,   Coney Island   (05.25.12)
this is cyberspace where you can put any address you feel like, although I won't deny spending much time in Coney Island in my younger years.
29. #10 - not very well thought out sarah!
spyguy ,   seattle usa   (05.25.12)
Lets just say you get your murderous wish and Israel nukes Iran, what do you think will happen in the hours and days that follow? Do you really think that the rest of the world will not severely punish Israel? Maybe even nuke Israel? There would be no way the US could protect Israel, and Israel is no match for the other 6.5 billion people on earth. If you are really that eager to kill lots of humans, why don't you go to any gun show in the US, purchase a "legal" AK-47, then purchase the military conversion kit and the super bullet clips and fly to Iran and start killing all the humans you can? You will be just as effect that way as you will be by nuking Iran.
30. mood music
Ted Dexter   (05.25.12)
Catherin Ashton's spokesman says as usual "mood music" between ugly Ashton & Little Aayatollah Saeed Jailii is good. So Iran can keep on building a bomb while everyone continues to sleep peacefully as usual.
