When the argument is against the Haredi, Israel is and must remain a Democracy. When the argument is against homosexuals, Israel has lost its way as the Jewish state. I'm not arguing either way here. That's actually perfectly natural and serves to underscore the most important aspect of Judaism -- we are encouraged to think for ourselves. It is quite normal to have conflicting opinions, or to feel one way about one topic and to feel quite another way about another topic. Judaism is not like Roman Catholicism, where free thought is actively discouraged (the pope will tell you what to believe, and anything else is heresy), and it is certainly not like Islam, which relies heavily on indoctrination with severe punishment for those who do not strictly obey the "teachings" of Islam, which are very narrowly construed. Free thought is good. Jews are not sheeple, nor are we easily cowed.

Because he arrived in Israel illegally, it negates any future benefits and decisions in his favor. While he claims him and his partner signed an agreement together 10 years ago, the cancellation of the right for Israeli citizens to bring family and relations into Israel occurred 12 years ago, thus over-riding their personal agreement.
