Good post.
33. Compared to the Ultra Orthodox...
Seth ,   Washington, DC   (05.31.12)
...at least the Reformed in Israel have jobs that serve to pay the bills of the parasites studying Torah all day and taking handouts from the government.
34. Reform has promoted US Jews assimilation to the tune of 80%!
(05.31.12)
Have all of their constituents intermarried and produced non-Jews so that this new generation there isn't enough constituency anymore to pay their membership dues? They have to come to Israel and take money intended for legitimate upholders of real Judaism??? Israelis aren't interested in Reform. If they go to Beit Knesset, they'll go to a real one, if and when they want to, whether they are shomer mitzvot or not. They may not be shomer mitzvot or perhaps they chose to observe some, but they certainly aren't going to call it a "special" branch of Judaism. Israelis are way too straightforward to accept the Reform B.S.
35. I went to a Reform/Conserv after school program and they

taught us the importance of recycling and all the other things one would learn in any public school. Can't keep the kids interested. Your USA track record speaks for itself. From all that post-Holocaust fear, that "don't look TOO Jewish, don't act TOO Jewish and blend-blend-blend!....came Reform in the USA. The apologists of Judaism. Well, Israel is a proudly JEWISH (say it loud!) country and has no need to apologize for it! Keep your busybody American mitts off Israel, Reform. You're not welcome here.

As a convert to conservative Judaism, I realize it makes no difference what sect you call familiar. If you love HaShem and are in awe of the creator; this is significant. I know this to be true because I experienced the Shekhinah after the mikvah ceremony. Wisdom comes from Hashem, not from me. It's about what's in your heart. Inevitably, moving closer to HaShem means being Torah observant, no matter the sect.

four corners of the world since 2000 years have no common culture nor history. Thanks to the Jewish religion Sefarad, ashkenazi,Chineze,Eskimo, negro Jews are still one people. Besides this, your comment : "You take your hypothesis while i take mine and we CAN LIVE IN PEACE ever after" is great !

Efraim. I do not recognise you, so please stay in Virginia, and don't interfere in the internal affairs of the State of Israel.

The unwritten Israeli constitution is based on Britain with its established Church of England that receives state support, while other Christian 'streams' or denominations do NOT. Most European countries with an 'established' religion give financial support to that denomination only while allowing all others freedom to practice their own faiths. There is no legal basis for demanding that all denominations receive the same funding. Marriage and divorce laws must remain 100% Halachic to avoid mamzerus.

American Sabrah ,   Israel   (05.31.12)
I find the whole situation to be ironic considering that the Reform and the Conservative moments were opponents of Zionism. They erased all references to Israel from their prayer books. A lot of holinim are not aware of this but these movements did not recognize nor supported the establishment of the State of Israel. At that time, they considered Berlin to be their "Jerusalem". I guess that wouldn't make them too far off from the Neturei Karta lol

either end state funding of all rabbis orredefine rabbi to exclude those for whom the torah is not revealed truth.no jew should be taxed to pay for perversion of adam and steve!
43. #38 Helen, I am setting Karl Marx and Bobby Fischer free.
Michael ,   California, USA   (05.31.12)
Please allow me to disagree. In Israel the "in-gathered exiles" have proven great commonality exists among the various "tribes" of Jews, in culture and in history. But let's not dwell on it academically and pull just one proof: Israel of today. We are united in our support of Israel which has the right to exist on both cultural and historical bases. You can find it among Polish, Ethiopian, Hindu and Moroccan immigrants, can you not? So, we do have a common culture and history, at least this one case, and many more cases can be cited. Let's look at the opposite: who is NOT a Jew. The great chess player Bobby Fischer is not a Jew to me. He hated Israel, denounced Jewish culture and history at every opportunity, and (for your sake's information) converted to Christianity (or maybe Buddhism?) George Soros, the rich financier from the U.S. is not a Jew to me either. He hates Israel and collaborated with Nazis in Germany during the war. I will give you an example of a group also: Neturei Karta who go to Iran and Gaza to denounce Israel and are obstinant in claiming Israel doesn't have the right to exist. They are not Jews to me. You see, dear Helen, "Jew" does not mean BEING IN JAIL. People can come and people can leave. Karl Marx for instance never wanted to be a Jew and did everything in his might to get himself out. I am setting you free hereby, Karl Marx. Are you joining me at it, Helen?

In fact i hope someday you will join authentic Judaism.
45. #44 Helen, Know a book explaining "authentic Judaism?"
Michael ,   California, USA   (05.31.12)
Maybe there is an article you could recommend, in English or Hebrew and several other languages? Will it be Sefaradi or Ashkenazi authenticity, from Warsaw or Baghdad or Shanghai? Maybe it will be Harambam's text who told the Orthodox Jews they have to work for a living? I have an idea, it will be the latest issue of the Reform prayer book. Please correct me if I am wrong.

to our common ancestors and practiced unchanged during more than 3000 years, until your parent s did join communism .
47. #46 Helen, The rest of my parents' story.
Michael ,   California, USA   (06.01.12)
They were still Communists when Germany attacked in 1939 from the West and Russia took the other half of Poland from the East. My father told me much later that he was confused and didn't know what to do. But my mother gave him clear instructions: 1. Run to Russia; 2. Inform us where to join you; 3. Never give up. And that's how it happened, exactly. My mother moved to Russia with a few of her relatives. The religious majority stayed behind and perished.

49. Reply to number 45. Authentic Judaism
Joseph ,   London UK   (06.05.12)
Authentic Judaism has many facets and traditions, but they all view the wider outside world from a Jewish perspective, while Liberal/Reform/Progressive look at Judaism from a non-Jewish perspective changing Judaism to fit the wider non-Jewish society. Authentic Judaism starts from the Revelation at Sinai and comes down through millennia of Sages who have guided us.
