1. Haredi women and Arabs
nadav ,   tlv   (05.31.12)
Haredi women and Arabs should be required to do national service too if they are unable to serve in the military!
2. BALONEY! The IDF do NOT want haredim
(05.31.12)
Unless they want them to do the dirty job of expelling Jews from their homes. What other reason? The IDF has made it crystal clear that it DOES NOT WANT HAREDIM. Only recently there was a report that large numbers of Hareidi reservists are not called up because the Army does not know what to do with them. As to there not being enough soldiers, as far as the empire builders in the Army are concerned, there are never enough soldiers. The Army must be made smaller (lean and mean) not artificially fattened to provide jobs for useless Generals.
3. Is blood from the "elite" Tel Avivians redder than Haredim's
DISCRIMINATION! ,   HYPOCRITES!   (05.31.12)
Deal with the THOUSANDS "elite" Tel Avivians draft dodgers first before discussing others?
4. Careful what you wish for....
Mitchell Cohen ,   Gush Etzion, Israel   (05.31.12)
These groups might be crying foul now, but are they REALLY ready for tens of thousands of Haredim to be drafted into the IDF? As it is now, there is plenty of whining about how the religious (i.e. the "national religious") are "taking over the IDF", as about 40% of officers are "kippot serugot". Remember the balagan when 3 national religious soldiers left a ceremony because a woman was singing? Don't come crying uncle when the demographics of the IDF changes SIGNIFICANTLY in favor of the Torah observant because you will only be getting what you asked for....
5. Are all these organizations all advocating that Arabs...
Patriotic Israeli ,   Tel Aviv, Israel   (05.31.12)
MUST ALSO SERVE? Or are they only anti-semitically discriminating against Heredim ONLY?
6. Here's what should be done: 1] all Jews must be called into
Moshe ,   Usa   (05.31.12)
the army & provide service. If they are able & they refuse, they must do army related work such as clean toilets. 2] same goes for Heredi or all government funds to their institutions should not be paid. 3] arobs should be called up to do work for the army that is not near weapons & not military intelligence sensitive & if they refuse, they go with the Jews to clean toilets.
7. #6 - So, Moshe, when are you coming here...
Patriotic Israeli ,   Tel Aviv, Israel   (05.31.12)
to do YOUR army service for your people and your eretz???
8. No special class citizens
Norman Gellman ,   Rehovot   (05.31.12)
The Haridim are in fact first class or special citizens. They do not work and they do not serve in the IDF. It may be true that some Haridim do work & some Haridim serve in the IDF. However the time has come for all citizens to be put on an equal footing by having all able body citizens service in the IDF & have no support for full time students. The government may declare that certain studies are essential and offer support for a limited number of gifted students’ in the essential fields. Service in the IDF should require obedience to the rules and commanders of the IDF extreme religious practices must be put aside for the duration of IDF service.
9. #4 you are right
israel israeli ,   tel aviv   (05.31.12)
The IDF already said they want no more than 3% of the Haredim and wants to release the rest so they can work (something currently forbidden) Plesner is trying to force the IDF to take at least 35% because he figures that will be good for his career.
10. Military service
RC ,   USA   (05.31.12)
What makes the Haredim so special that they are excempt from serving in the Armed Forces to defend the homeland? Even YHWH presented himself in the battleground for Israel (Joshua 5:13-15). Is their blood more precious than the rest of the Israelis who work and are required to defend and protect Israel?
