1. Shameful propaganda
Haifen   (06.05.12)
1. Surely, a UN mission staff of only 20 people is pathetically understaffed and underserving the nation's interests. 2. Maybe instead of spending 100's of millions of dollars on settlements we'll just bulldoze anyway, we should spend a little more to break the international wall of hatred at the UN? But oh wait, the money will have to go to underfunded schools - not secular schools, of course. Can we really fix (tikun) the world with a nation that is quickly falling behind the rest of world. Then again, we might want to use spare money that currently go to doomed settlements for real health care, not to mention real, up to date, medications and procedures. Or safer roads. Or dignified care for the elderly Or public awareness campaigs to improve the lives of our citizens. Nah, that doesn't matter. We're too busy "tikuning" the rest of the world. While we allow violent racist incitement against the poorest people that show up at our doorstep. Hear oh Israel! heal thyself!
2. The UN is way past its sell-by-date!
michael redbourn ,   Arad Israel   (06.05.12)
The US in particular and the West in general should have stopped funding the UN years ago. The bulk of the UN continually votes against the West and bite's the hands that feed it. Modern technology enables people to see and to talk to multiple people simultaneously with a few simple mouse clicks. So why accommodate the parasites on expensive NY property? Details here .. misconceptions dot us/does-the-world-need-the-u-n Replace the word dot with a . and remove the two spaces, because links are frowned upon.

I wasn't aware of these achievements. Kok hakavod to the Israeli mission! And thanks for keeping me informed.

Andi ,   Israel   (06.05.12)
I agree with your sentiments about wasted money going to settlements, and there is obvioulsy much room for improvement in many sectors. But Israel is NOT "quickly falling behind the rest of the world". On the contrary we are world leaders in many fields, and for size of population probably contribute more to the advancement of humanity in numerous fields, than any other nation. Reducing ideologiocal settlement activity might help Israel's UN postion with some Western nations and help Israel's economy, but don't fool yourself. It will make no difference with most of the "auotomatic majority"

7. UN's past and present.
Istvan ,   BUDAPEST HUNGARY   (06.05.12)
It was born in April 1945, when still thousands of jews were murdered daily by the nazis. And ever since it was an anti jewish instutition. Its structure is totally disfunctional, as we can see in the syrian issue. The best would be to disband it and forget quickly.

You sure seem to have all the answers. Thankfully Israelis are not relying on you or the likes of you! The picture you paint is much too simplistic. The security that Israelis need goes beyond schooling, roads and medical care.
9. The man who doesn't take NO for an answer
tiki ,   belgium   (06.05.12)
Ron Prosor, the best Israeli Ambassador at the UM-Schmum, since Abba Eban! Sincere, eloquent, intelligently humorous, fearless and tireless putting the irrational, passionate Israel & Jew haters in their place.

I'm sure some comments that follow this article will be along the lines of "who needs the UN?" or "disband the UN." Well, guess what? The UN is not going away. Nor is the ICC. Nor are any of the various organizations which are associated with the UN. Israelis can keep their anomisity towards the UN if they want, but it won't do them any good. The UN needs to be viewed much like a radio. If you don't like what a person is saying on the radio, do you blame the radio? Would getting rid of the radio do any good? Is it the fault of the radio for what the person is saying or is it the fault of the person who is saying it? There's no doubt the UN has been used by Israel's enemies in the past. But if the UN didn't give these people an outlet, they would have found another vehicle for their hatred. Perhaps a more violent one. If Israel wants to change its image at the UN (and stop action against it at the UN) it only needs to end the occupation. Yes, I know this will go over the heads of the "G-d gave us the land crowd" as well as go over the head of the "Israel is blameless" crowd. But the remaining 99% of the people know it is true.

14. #11, The UN is a house of cards
Jake   (06.06.12)
whose continued existence is based solely on the massive funding it receives from America and other industrialized nations, and on the continued good will of the American people, whose territory it actually occupies. If it derilicts its original mission of fostering global peace and understanding, as it is indeed doing, it will go the way of the League of Nations before it, and there is nothing you can say or do to prevent this white elephant from tumbling down. By the way, Israel received more frequent condemnation in the UN before the so-called "occupation" of 1967, than it does today.
15. To #11
Andi ,   Israel   (06.06.12)
'end the occupation' . Sure but how! Any ideas without Hamas and Jihad firing rockets on us the next morning from 'liberated territory'? In the meantime we"ll carry on at the UN explaining our problem about 'ending the occupation', something you clearly haven't understood yet.
16. Why dont you end occupation of Texas, California, Colorado,
Jorge   (06.06.12)
New Mexico, Alaska, Hawaii, Arizona, Loussiana, Puerto Rico, Guantanamo, and you know that they were stolen, and now are occupied, then remember the owners of the rest of the land, that were murdered, and thrown aside to build the great U.S.A, dont spit to the heavens, it falls back on your face

Who cares about various UN apartheid organizations including the ICC? Racist organizations need to be blamed for their actions. As for the violence - we have already experienced it - even with those same UN organizations that condemn us for not dying on command. As for the occupation - the illegal Arab colonists are the ones that need to leave our land. Every single international law or treaty on the subject states that it is our lands. The real issue is people like you that support the lies. Care to produce a single law or treaty that gives the Arabs any of the land? Bet you won't try because none exist.
18. UN
Debbie ,   Israel   (06.06.12)
TO NO. 11 Your comparison of the UN to a radio is absolutely non-sensical and absurd. While one can easily and harmlessly turn off a radio, Israel (or any country) can not ignore the UN, and its constant Israel bashing, and non stop condemnation of Israel. Where did you get this radio crap? Totally non-applicable in this situation.
19. Quit complaining...
Concerned Galilean ,   Western Galilee   (06.06.12)
Too many people like you complain - run for government and change what you don't like! I may not like everything the government does, but at least they are doing - not just wasting cheap words complaining about what others do. The article above is iun praise of what a few, dedicated diplomats are doing for us all - kol ha'kavod to them. They do not deserve the pathetic use you have made here for your own bitching. Grow up!
20. #1. The only "hateful propaganda" is yours.
Chaim ,   Israel   (06.06.12)
#1. Judea and Samaria have belonged to Jews for more than 3,500 years and always will. Moreover, a cursory glance at a map proves Judea and Samaria make Israel viable. Palestine is forever fictional. The only "hateful" propaganda is yours.
