1. If they really have a hard time in Germany...
Peter ,   Vienna-Austria   (06.09.12)
Why don't they just move over to live with their fellow jews in israel? this way everyone will be happy!
2. All Jews should leave Germany and
Reuven   (06.09.12)
come to wherte they are welcome....Israel!
3. Excellent, accurate, and scary
Robert ,   USA   (06.09.12)
Kevin Zdiara has hit the nail on the head and not only clearly reveals the rise in anti-Semitism in today's Germany, but correctly links it to anti-Israel, which is a form of anti-Semitism that is much harder to fight. Not all anti-Israel sentiments come from anti-Semitism; some actually comes from national self interest, making it much harder to distinguish between the two. Saying "We like Jews, but we don't like Israel" is politically correct in many circles, but is often just thinly veiled anti-Semitism. Personally, I fear Germany will again be in the leader in anti-Semitism, but this time it will come (eventually, and sooner than we expect) in the form of anti-Israel.
4. #1 Have you actually read the article?
Tahl   (06.09.12)
The article says nothing about Germany's Jews. Rather, it discusses the growing hostility and hate campaign in Germany toward Israel. Not that an antisemitic douchebag like you would have a problem with that, right?
5. Wrong approach
berlonski ,   berlin   (06.09.12)
If a mayor's opposition to the security barrier is taken as a proof for anti-semitism, when at the same time the international court of justice (and many Israelis b.t.w.) actually demand the same, the author's accusation actually backfires. In this way Mr. Zdiara contributes to the sad trend that probably people in some years will hardly raise an eyebrow any more if they hear someone talking about anti-semitism. That will good for the real anti-semites. And bad for all the others. So, Mr. Zdiara, please stop using the accusation of anti-semitism just for underpinning a POLITICAL opinion. You will get actually the opposite of what you want.
6. To Nr. 1 I am ashamed (since you are not)
Mara ,   Vienna   (06.09.12)
of your stupid, ruthless and hateful comment! It is just the people like you who cause the worst things in the world to happen.

8. Mr. Zdiara - kol ha’kavod!
solomon ,   bklyn   (06.09.12)
Thank you for your efforts and the news that all is not lost...yet.
9. #1 Being Jewish is not a Nationality, moron!
Isac   (06.09.12)
Obviously you are a Jew hater, therefore there is no sense in even discussing anything intelligent with you. What you said, is EXACTLY what your christian fellows said starting 1932. Judasim is a religion and does not have anything to do with somebody's government issued passport.
10. study philosophy and let the specialists make their analysis
friedrich mayer ,   ffm   (06.09.12)
you can always see what you want to see. i think this is one of the worst analysis ever read about this specific topic. in the nme things are happening which are not acceptable. and so the public reacts because what maybe be right for a jewish israeli-settler in one of the illegal outposts in the west bank is maybe not so right for a any other human beeing living on this earth. in the end i just want to say that this guy writes what every jewish israeli thinks when he thinks about europe.
11. #9 I beg to disagree
Igor ,   Germany   (06.09.12)
We'd probably agree that #1 is an anti-Semitic moron who didn't and couldn't understand the article. Nevertheless I disagree with you about being Jewish. It is an ethnicity as much as a religion. It being passed from mother to child, and the conversion process is a complicated issue resembling more a naturalization than a baptism. There are millions of non-religious Jews in the world, some even risking their lives in the IDF for Israel.
12. Weak and piss-poor excuse!
Jay   (06.09.12)
You can be anti-israel without being anti-semitic. Wrong doing can be hidden by calling everyone (including jews) that disagree with israel.
13. #9 - Completely agree with you.
Maurice ,   Montreal   (06.09.12)
14. Everybody who doesn't support 100%
(06.09.12)
the ultra right in Israel is an anti-Semite. That's the only reason why "anti-Semitism" is on the rise in Germany and anywhere else on this planet. Just look at youtube, how the Israeli Right calls fellows Jews, even police officers, "Nazis", "Holocaust deniers" etc. It has become completely ridiculous. Another good example how distorted the Rightist in Israel are, is this forum.
15. Anti-Semitism
jassi ,   new delhi   (06.09.12)
Fed up of these anti-semitism rants. Come on, get a life. As of now, if a jew were to be sent to the moon, he would come back and complain of anti-semitism!
16. When did anti-Semitism get "old?
The Prophetess ,   SC, USA   (06.09.12)
Relax, Haverim, it's the same old nazis dressed in new clothing thinking somehow that their brand of anti-Semitism is outre. Besides, how "cool" is it that for once, the world is "quaking in their booties" over The POWER of The State of Israel? Am Yisrael Chai!
17. #9 and #11
DavidR ,   USA   (06.09.12)
Judaism is a Religion. Israel had 12 sons. One was named Yhuda. That is the source of the word "Jew" The other 11 sons and their descendants are not Jews, they are Hebrews. Jews are Hebrews also. So, the truth is that there are Hebrew people. Some are called Jews because they are either from the Southern Kingdom of Yhudah or because they are descendants of Yhuda. So that is the long and short of it. Reading and understanding Torah helps.

Then you are cordially invited to take your keyboard and deposit it where the sun doesn't shine and stay off this forum. The last thing the world needs is another left wind nut job.
19. More finger pointing ,...
split ,   US   (06.09.12)
Of course all of this got nothing to do with Israel's conduct ;) ,...
20. # 9
Mike Carmel ,   Rishon le Zion   (06.09.12)
Interesting point you raise. By making that statement you delegitimize most of Israel's raison d'être which probably wasn't your intention but opens a can of worms so to speak. Many people here even think the same way.
21. The German media is extremely biased against Israel.
Avner ,   Tel Aviv   (06.09.12)
The German media is extremely biased against Israel, and makes many factual mistakes when reporting the conflict. But I'm not sure the anti-Israel position of the German media is representative of the general population.
22. to #9
gordon   (06.09.12)
thats why in the israeli passport you can find under the section nationality "jewish" and not "israeli". so the selfdescribtion of the jewish state is a little different then our in the western world. say whaaaat?
23. #5 berlonski - right approach
solomon ,   bklyn   (06.09.12)
Most (not “many”) Israelis support the barriers as it has cut down on terrorism and murder. A “detail” you ignore. Preventing the murder of Jews is reason enough to ignore any international organization that doesn’t care about facts; eg without the barriers, more Jews would be murdered, and that this began even before the Six Day War. In this case I would put the ICJ in the same class as the UNHRC. Opinions against Israel are rarely political. If you would read the rhetoric, you would see that. Another “detail” you ignore.
24. #11 igor - I beg to disagree
solomon ,   bklyn   (06.09.12)
Judaism is not based on ethnicity. You should look at photos of Jews. There are Arab Jews, European Jews, Asian Jews, African Jews, Indian Jews, etc.
25. #1 peter
solomon ,   bklyn   (06.09.12)
Thank you for proving Mr. Zdiara’ point. I’m sure you will be even happier if all Jews would just disappear. Ain’t gonna happen.
26. Protesters
Ed Stack ,   Boston, USA   (06.09.12)
Have any of these protesters also protested Assad's actions in Syria. If they have not, I can not accept their comments as based on moral or ethical values. If you have questions about this, please ask
27. Israelis are citizens of Israel, Germans of Germany.
Michael ,   California, USA   (06.09.12)
People can argue this point in many different ways, as numerous have done on this board, above. The confusion is great while the Israeli government is to be blamed. For more than 65 years there has been no formal definition of who is an Israeli and who is a Jew. Mr. Kevin Zdiara has written an honest article, worth learning from and applauding for its journalistic quality. I wish his task on the topic of ant-Semitism was easier, at least when it comes to knowing who is a Jew, who is an Israeli, and who are the Germans with Jewish past. We should all exert pressure on the Israeli government to write the Constitution and set things straight.
28. #1, Peter
Oscar ,   fort Worth, USA   (06.09.12)
Austrian people are known to have invented Nazism. Besides this, your country is known mainly for nature, xenofobism and lazyness. i
29. "Facing the New anti-Semites"
Marie-Luise ,   Wiesbaden, Germany   (06.09.12)
The impression given by Kevin Zdiara is wrong insofar as the anti-Semites are among the Leftists in Germany and our growing Muslim population. There is the large part of Germany, me included, are are definitely not Leftists.
30. ONE DAY at Babi Yar = ALL Pals killed
GZLives   (06.10.12)
Just remind the Germans how many of us they murdered in cold blood - how many men women and children versus the number of Palestinians that have died in all the fighting from the very beginning. That should shut them up
