I bet you that (if AKP keps on winning elections and Erdogan gets his presidency with the powers that he wants) Turkey will cease the republic that we know today spanning from Greece and Bulgaria on the West to Ira, Syria and Iraq in the East in 20 years or less. Israel more than any other country has a duty to recognise & condemn genocide. Nobody is saying we should componsate the Armenians or do anything else just recognise what happened. It may not do us any favors with Turkey which is trying to pretend it never happened but the Armenians will appreciate it and it will hopefully open doors to new trade as a nice little bonus. Patching things up with Turkey should not be conditional on us refusing to recognise an act of genocide that took place nearly a century ago. The people of Israel have to recognise the Armenian Genocide, because they also lived this owfull experience.The brutal incident of SS. Struma which took place 27 years later ,gave a very describing idea about turkish hospitality, towards defenceless people. I find this kind of tit-for-tat diplomacy quite immature. Israel, a country in its infancy, should stand on principles, not daily changing of political winds. Here is one useful principle: always stand for truth. And here is the truth: Armenian claims of genocide are long discredited political claims, while Jewish Holocaust is a court-proven truth. Equating the two would be an insult to the silent memory of 6 million Jews who were killed ny the German Nazis just for being Jews. Armenians were temporarily removed by the Ottoman government because of what Armenians have done: they took up arms against their own state and neighbors, resorted to revolts, treason, and terrorism.
