31. peter, can the nabka for "Armenia' be held in Turkey?
Bad Assed Jew ,   United States   (06.13.12)
wouldn't that be quaint?
32. To: No. 29
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (06.13.12)
I recognize the "Naqba." I celebrate it -- with immense joy and gratitude to Ha'Shem -- every year. So what's your problem? It's recognized. Let's move on to discuss the vile genocide of the Armenians at the hands of the Turks, shall we?
33. To: No. 28
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (06.13.12)
It doesn't much matter. Turkey doesn't much matter. Erdogan is dying, and does not much matter.

1. Israel may be a young country but it is a mature democracy compared to Turkey. There is no Silivri prison in Israel where journalists medical doctors etc. are imprisoned with no clear charges against them, for 1-2-3 years, and opponents of the Israeli government such as Amira Haas are free to say anything. 2. It is Turkish claim that Armenian genocide never happened but we have seen many evidences of great atrocities against Armenians in movie footage from that era in the US PBS channels. While Turkish administration repeatedly says that the archives are open when people need to access them it is impossible to reach documents. One thinks that there is something to hide. 3. You claim Armenians were temporarily removed. I was born and raised in Izmir where there was a huge Armenian population (about 50 thousand) and when I was born in 1950 there were only a few families and by now maybe not even that. That does not look like temporary to me.
35. Demand Turkey End its Illegal Occupation of Cyprus!
Linda Rivera ,   New York, USA   (06.13.12)
Why is violent aggressor, Turkey, a member of NATO? NATO is supposed to PROTECT the Free World!
36. To be ashamed sometime would help...
peter vojta ,   prag   (06.13.12)
That is the problem with you people, Whole World votes against Israels conducts/policy and only US blocks it all the time....and you feel, that whatever crime agaist humanity Israel makes, your answer" Dont talk about it...Sorry, to be ashamed about it sometime would be helpful and it would help for reasoning real issues....

1. I did not say you ar an AKP supporter. My words were: ;you really are a secular modern democrat as you claim to be. 2. There was another world leader who had improved his countries economy drastically some years ago by building industry and roads all over his country. You may remember him as Adolf Hitler. 3. You totally ignored the main subject of my post: Do you bet that - based on the conditions that I mentioned - there will still be a Turkish republic as we know today? Or will there be some division either as a form of federation or maybe even totally split? What do you support?
39. Thank you for righting a long overdue wrong
Grace ,   USA   (06.13.12)
They have suffered for so long ~ this will not fix the past, but at least their sacrifices will be recognized and finally legitimized ~ Again, thank you.
40. #7 - by "You" are you addressing the Muslims?
William ,   Israel   (06.13.12)
Because they were the ones who started the racist attacks on Jews which eventually built up to become a genocidal war on Jews in which they claimed "Jewish blood will run through the streets like a river". It was nice of Hazem Khalidi of the Arab Higher Council to admit that the so-called "Nakba" was the result of their own mis-calculations with the lie of Deir Yassin which caused so many Arabs to run without ever seeing a soldier. Let me ask you - where are you now, Son of Jaffa? If in Israel, then your family adhered to the calls by Jews to ignore Arab leaders and remain in your homes to build a State together. Many did, and benefit greatly from trusting the Jews. If you're not in Israel, then ask your grandparents why they ran - out of fear from a fictitious Arab rumor, or out of greed hoping to return and take Jewish property/wealth when they were all killed off violently as Arab leaders had promised?
41. #25 - so the fact that the Armenian Genocide has been
William ,   Israel   (06.13.12)
a topic of growing interest and discussion around the world for the past few years is of no concern to you, but when Israel moves to make a decision on it we're suddenly labeled as "without tact" and "spoiled spiteful children". Seems like you need to pay attention more than the quick digesting of a handful of soundbites. The world cannot be understood or global complexities dealt with by quickly reading the sidebar on the Wall Street Journal front page.
42. #26 - What is genocide?
William ,   Israel   (06.13.12)
If it targets an ethnic group en masse with trials that are sure to result in death, then it's a genocide. If it's systematic, as it seems the genocide against Armenians by Ottoman Turkey was, the gravity is even heavier than basic genocide. It doesn't help your case that Hitler cited the world's silence on the Armenian Genocide (his words) when remarking the world will not stop him from cleansing Jews from Europe, then the Earth.
43. Why not blame today's Turkish government?
Jason ,   Montreal, Canada   (06.14.12)
What is this walking on eggshells when Israel deals with Turkish lies and deceit? How would the world Jewry have label the German government of today if they had refused to admit and recognize the Nazi Holocaust of the Jews? I doubt that they would gently and carefully beat around the bush and suggest Berlin to change their minds about the Nazis. Ankara should be outright brought to shame and labeled criminal for their rewriting of history to avoid facing the criminal past of a regime Ankara so ardently defends. No beating around the bush!!!!!
44. Turkey-Israel relations
Ergun Kirlikovali ,   Los Angeles, USA   (06.14.12)
I find this kind of tit-for-tat diplomacy quite immature. Israel, a country in its infancy, should stand on principles, not daily changing of political winds. Here is one useful principle: always stand for the truth. And here is the plain truth: Armenian claims of genocide are long discredited political claims, while Jewish Holocaust is a court-proven truth. Equating the two would be an insult to the silent memory of 6 million Jews who were killed by the German Nazis just for being Jews. Armenians were temporarily removed by the Ottoman government because of what Armenians have done: they took up arms against their own state and neighbors, resorted to revolts, treason, and terrorism. It was a wartime measure necessitade by Armenian insurgency and treason, threatening the Ottoman war effort during WWI. A far cry from the tragedies of WWII, isn't it? All deaths are tragic, of course, but Muslim, mostly Turkish deaths, should not be dismissed out of a racist and/or Islamophobic reflex.
