1. That's OK, Mr. President
Vlad   (06.13.12)
Pollard is scheduled for mandatory release in 2015 if he remains on good behavior. And the funny thing is, he was about to turn over the names of CIA sources in Israel just before he was arrested. Assuming he managed to get his hands on the information right before his arrest, it'll sure be fun when Shin Bet questions him, and he blows the whistle on those who betrayed Israel in the 1980s and were never caught. Wonder what all you die-hard American talkbackers will say when they are mass arrested. The government will probably conceal the arrests, but I wish it would be public. How all you die-hard US blowhards will justify it will be something to see.
2. Pollard committed massive treason and sold out America
christianpalestinian ,   nyc   (06.13.12)
He will no doubt remain in prison for the rest of his life.
3. So Peres' policy must change... he must REFUSE any medal
Just say... ,   NO THANKS   (06.13.12)
from Obama which only gives Obama photo shots of how good a friend he is to Israel and the Jews for his reelection. Time to say thanks, but NO THANKS. The test of character is now in Peres' hands.
4. he's just got three years left 2 serve....
(06.13.12)
The Traitor Pollard should serve them honorably and quietly. His attention seeking 2nd wife should stay by his side throughout instead of Jet Setting around the world.
5. Pollard is a political pond
Galut ia ,   Selah   (06.13.12)
even many that put him in prison are now calling for his release ... Obama is using all means to make Israel steer away from attacking Iran....
6. Pollard will defeat Obama at the Polls
Roland Seener ,   London England   (06.13.12)
7. vlad what are you talking about
courtney ,   usa   (06.13.12)
us "blowhard americans" simply want a criminal to serve his time. treason is punishable by death, he got off pretty easy.
8. @ 1 Mr. Vlad
Sheik rattle & roll ,   USA   (06.13.12)
So what, who cares. Pollard is an American who was convicted by an American court for betraying his American country while he was employed by the American Navy. I know he is now an Israeli citizen and renounced his citizenship so when we are done with him you can have him.
9. Fair enough
steve from raleigh   (06.13.12)
The next time any US administration demands Israel free mass murderers, the response should EITHER be "when Pollard is free." or, "We will deport each and every one of them to the US."
10. israel should also give NOT just get
JOHN ,   ASHDOD   (06.13.12)
if israel trusth USA then why spying USA give everything israel need $money, weapons. what USA do for israel is even more than what to give to the brother so israel should respect and trusth USA if he want to be good and trusth friend not spying against USA.
11. Courtney: What are YOU talking about ?!?!
American Jew   (06.13.12)
Pollard was not charged with, or convicted of , "treason", you fool. He was convicted of 1 count of espionage, and that is not "punishable by death". The maximum possible sentence was life in prison, and that is what the judge handed down, despite the fact the prosecutor was only asking for a "substantial number of years". The U.S. government entered into a plea arrangement with Pollard, but ultimately dishonored that agreement, essentially railroading Pollard. Pollard has been imprisoned for 25 long years, more than anyone in the history of American jurisprudence for the same alleged crime. So, as to your ridiculous and ignorant statement that "he got off pretty easy", you'd be well advised to educate yourself lest you again (and rightfully) be referred to as one of those "blowhard americans". Pollard will be free soon, much to your dismay. You, on the other hand, will serve a "life sentence" of ignorance.
12. Hey "American Jew": not "alleged" at all - convicted
Brian Cohen ,   Judean Peoples Front   (06.13.12)
You dorkamouses keep saying "alleged" crime. So you yourself should stop being a fool - he's a convicted felon. He broke the law and committed espionage against his own country. In fact, that's against halacha too, but since you consider it "alleged" even though he admitted it and was tried and convicted...well, you just keep on posting your foolish talkbacks.
13. Peres? Medal of Freedom
Joe Sombrero ,   USA   (06.13.12)
In my opinion Something is rotten in Denmark about Peres getting that medal in my opinion. Why would he get a medal that is given to people who has done very great service to the US. What has he done to merit the medal? I bet there are people in Israel wondering the same thing?
14. # 11 He did not say he was convivted or
ben   (06.13.12)
charged with treason, only what he felt he was guilty of. Pollard was going to be charged with treason but he plea barganed down, pesumably to save embarresment for both countrys. Can you honestly look at the facts and I don't mean the Free J Pollard website I mean honestly look at the facts and say he is not guilty of treason. PS Vlad If your listening Pollard has been viseted in prison by high ranking Israel officials including Bibi N. Could he not reveal whatever info you are talking about then.
15. #7 maximum sentence in US is 6 years
michael redbourn ,   Arad Israel   (06.13.12)
With the exception of Pollard, nobody that was sentenced for spying against an ally has ever received more than six years.
16. As I recall Obama and Hillary offered Pollard
ben   (06.14.12)
in return to continue the settlment freeze. six months probably would have done it. Why not offer the deal now and take Pollard home with Peres. Win WIN for everyone. Wern't the settlments spose to be frozen anyway with Oslo along with the Palastinians dismantling the terror infrastructure.
17. #7 courtney here's what I'm talking about
Vlad   (06.14.12)
I know exactly how you would react if Israel gave a similar sentence to or even hanged someone like Yosef Amit.
18. I think you missed the point, #8
Vlad   (06.14.12)
What I was trying to say was that I wonder how you and all the other American TBers will react if indeed Pollard had managed to obtain the info on US spies for Israel in the 1980s, and they get arrested. Normally, I would support leniency for an American spy caught in Israel as compared to an Arab or even a European spy, but I wish they would put in prison for life or even hang at least one US spy, just to avenge Pollard in some way and see how you all react. And Israel had plenty of opportunities to do that. You probably don't know just how many US spies Israel has caught.
19. Obama is AntiSemite
Brod ,   USA   (06.14.12)
Don't expect anything from the AntiSemite. See what James Manning says about Obama in Youtube. Also see how Obama extols Islam in his Youtube "I am a Muslim" confession.
20. #13
oferdesade ,   israel   (06.14.12)
he did about as much as obama did for his peace prize... or arafat, for his. these prizes are merely a way of giving people headlines when you cant think of anything else that warrants it. peres is about as deserving as my pet tarantula.. no wait a minute, tarance makes me laugh.
21. #18
Joe sombrero ,   Usa   (06.14.12)
I think you mistyped what u meant. I think you meant Israeli spies for the US.
22. #2 Christian Palestinian
Paltalk Doctor ,   Pomona USA   (06.14.12)
We know about the Christian Palestinian Sirhan Sirhan that betrayed America by assassinating Robert Kennedy. Oh and George Habash also.
23. Ben (#14): Yet another 'genius'.
American Jew   (06.14.12)
Oh, I see what you're saying. Courtney (a 'she', not a 'he') was merely saying that Pollard should have received the death penalty, not because he was charged/convicted of treason (he was not), but because SHE felt that this is what he was guilty of. Are you for real? You, sir, must be joking (or Muslim). Treason, in the legal sense, involves giving aid and comfort to the enemy during a time of war with that enemy. At worst, Pollard gave sensitive information to Israel, a friend of the U.S., during non-wartime. So, as to your question "Can you honestly look at the facts...and say he is not guilty of treason", I must ask YOU...Can YOU look at the facts (and I don't mean looking at Pollard through the lenses of your anti-semitic eyes), and say that he is guilty of treason? Do legal definitions and charges go out the window when the defendant is Jewish? How do people like you spew such utter nonsense, having never even looked up the definition of the word "treason", and offer up opinions as to Pollard's guilt of such a crime? Have you no sense of shame or embarrassment? Should Pollard spend the rest of his life in jail, or receive the death sentence, because fools like you and Courtney want that, independent of what the law states? P.S. Friendly (and non-friendly) nations "spy" on each other every single day of the year. It's routine. Ever head of the CIA? The U.S. spies on Israel, and just about every other Country of importance, every single day of the year. Pollard was no more guilty than thousands of Americans who spy on, or for, other Countries every day. But he, alone, has served far more prison time than anyone in American history for his crime. Amd I'm not talking about 5 or 10 years more time than anyone else. I'm talking 15 or 20 years more time. And that is for one lone reason...HE IS JEWISH!! Pollard deserved a MAXIMUM of 5 years in prison...MAXIMUM! And you know it.
24. Pollard should never have had to steal the vital intel.
Tahl   (06.14.12)
Given the crucial importance of this intel with regards to Israel, it was imperative that the US should have willingly shared it with Israel. Isn't this what "close allies" typically do for one another?
25. Pollard spying was massive and serious
real_democrat   (06.14.12)
From Wapo http://voices.washingtonpost.com/spy-talk/2010/12/former_top_intelligence_offici.html Hard copies of the documents Pollard stole in 18 months could “fill a room that is six feet by six feet by ten,” Ronald Olive, the top Navy investigator in the Pollard case, told SpyTalk. "No other spy in the history of the United States stole so many secrets, so highly classified, in such a short period of time," he maintains.
26. # 13 I believe they call it politics, Obama is
ben   (06.14.12)
trying to win a election. As Pat Buchanon said it's good politics to be pro Israel in the USA. John Stewart made a joke about how US politicians are not allowed to critisize Israel. Why do you think Gingrich says the Palastinians are an invented people or I think it was Michele Bachman The first thing I will do as president will move the embassy to Jeruselem. It's red meat for US Voters. PS every country in the world has their embasy in Tel Aviv including the US. Read The Israel Lobby and US foreign policy by John J Mearsheimer and Stephen M Walt. Obama is trying to win in November
27. #19
Harold ,   USA   (06.14.12)
I remember many Israeli Prime Ministers during the past 25 years asked the US presidents to release Pollard and all rejected their requests. Now if President Obama is AntiSemite then all the presidents before him were in the same category. Try to wise-up. Polard is very lucky to be alive he should have been executed.
28. #20 Pet tarantula?
Vlad   (06.14.12)
Ugh, how can ANYONE stand one of those things? I'd die of a heart attack if I even SAW one.
29. #16 ben
Vlad   (06.14.12)
But the Palestinians dismantled the terror infrastructure. Anyway, it's pointless to offer concessions for Pollard, given that he'll be a free man in 2015.
30. Rabbis appeal higher, call for greater pressure on Obama
JooTube.TV ,   Hollywood, Calif USA   (06.14.12)
See video "Rabbis appeal higher, as Peres confers "friend-to-Israel" credence to Obama, without clemency for Jonathan Pollard" on http://JooTube.TV
