1. Keep gay pride out of IDF.
Yosi ,   Israel   (06.14.12)
What you do in your private life is your business I don't care, BUT IDF is all our business. So don't flaunt it.
2. Acknowledging acceptance
Mea   (06.14.12)
...is different than flaunting.
3. The IDF doesn't need...
Eaglebeak ,   Left Coast, USA   (06.14.12)
to improve it's global image. Global image doesn't win wars and this isn't going to make Muslims love you. Leave gays alone but don't keep shoving it down our throats. What gays do is their own business. Let the IDF do it's job and quit making this a popularity contest.
4. David and Jonathan
Mark ,   Jerusalem   (06.14.12)
Please don't make David and Jonathan gay, they were not, they were just good friends. As for the pic, well if it helps PR for Israel then I am for it but I think it will take a lot more than two guys holding hands. As for the rest of the IDF, the straight ones, I wonder how many of them feel comfortable having a shower together with one of their gay soldiers, I am sure he will be afraid to drop the soap. Any case I think its great that the IDF is as open as it is on this issue. The problem will arise though when a religious male soldier will hear a gay soldier singing, will he leave or stay.
5. Vayehe Medinat Israel, Kol HaKavod L'Tzahal!
hetero granny ,   Israel   (06.14.12)
I am proud to live in Israel and I am proud of every single one of the IDF soldiers who protect all of us. I am proud to have an IDF which accepts all equally! (and at #1, Yosi, son, untwist your knickers, your 'cojones' - clearly where your brain is located - aren't getting enough oxygen! Your "silly" and homophobic are showing!)
6. Uniform to change to bright pink
Harry Nutsack   (06.15.12)
Return any guns or ammunition, eat only at Azrieli, have Mom drive you every morning...
7. Can we move on?
Devorah   (06.15.12)
8. @ No. 4
Aharon ,   Holon, Israel   (06.15.12)
Mark, in regards to what hetero soldiers feel about having to shower with their gay commrades, my answer to you is, no different than two straight guys having to shower together. Furthermore, are you implying that because the male soldier is gay that he is essentially a woman? If that's so, does that mean you are attracted to said soldier? I think you have some things to think over buddy.
9. Despicable
Chaim ,   Los Angeles   (06.15.12)
This is deplorable. The IDF needs to be a relgious army. We can't have sodomites in the army...period.
10. absolute rubbish
maurice   (06.15.12)
i never read the article-only the title. But if you think that the world will look more favorably towards Israel because they have some gay guys in the army-you are seriously deluded. No-one cares besides for a few bored losers
11. @6 my children r both heterosexual & I drive them every a.m.
Israeli Mom ,   Israel   (06.15.12)
so really your comment is completely stupid! (but then your nuts are hairy and locked down in a dirty bag.....)
12. This never was an issue
Ami ,   Bostob, USA   (06.15.12)
WHen I served in the IDF, during the 70s and 80s, no one cared if a soldier was gay, in or out of the shower (maybe Israeli men are not so scared of their perception of manhood as in some other countries...). We cared if they got along with others and could do their job.
13. To Number 9
lupinda ,   london uk   (06.15.12)
are you living in the dark ages? sodomites? ridiculous.....i assume you're a closet case yourself?
14. when in uniform....
Mattan ,   meritt island, usa   (06.15.12)
soldiers represent the state. soldiers in uniform should not be holding hands, frolicking through the tulips, or breast feeding, or doing anything that will jeopardize the image of strength in the eyes of the enemies.
15. GAY SOLDIERS
DAVID ,   Quito ecuador   (06.15.12)
We are now doing just as Rome and Greece, where homosexuality was encouraged within the army, lets hope we don't go the way of Rome and Greece...
16. Ridiculous picture
M ,   US   (06.15.12)
Being homosexual has nothing to do with fighting Israel's enemies and the photo of two guys is ludicrous. Stop flaunting the PC/lgbt agenda. Judaism does not condone homosexuality. It exists in life, but it's not condoned.
17. Who cares?
Sam ,   Texas   (06.15.12)
So what? So the IDF has gays...why all the need for a pat on the back by the rest of world, "Good doggy"?
18. Okay! Okay! So M.B. is a gay loving leftist
Israeli 2   (06.15.12)
Dear Merav Betito: You are wrong. The majority of the world are holding on to Jewish tenets. Israel is a Jewish country with a Jewish army. This will simply confuse them and they will find us repulsive.
19. Disgusting Image!!!
Jake Stone ,   USA   (06.15.12)
20. Improved Image?
Z.Z. Coltrane ,   USA   (06.15.12)
The IDF has already lost its deterrence; now, the wolves will really attack because of the image that shows nothing but weakness. The Muslims are laughing at the Army that allows some of its girlie-men to wear makeup and pantyhose! What a sad commentary on this perverse group of the human condition. Thank, God...they're a small minority that can hide in the closet when the war(s) start!
21. David & Jonathan?
Taz Man ,   USA   (06.15.12)
To all who subscribe to this sick comparison to justify their own reprobate minds, God'll judge you and your partipation, whether being active in...or condoning of. This lifestyle is a black mark on God's land, that will be judged. Mark my words! God bless, Israel...may He restore righteousness within a sick, secular Israel.
22. #8 Gay men are men
Mark ,   Jerusalem   (06.15.12)
No gay men are not women and I did not say that. Gay men are men like you and me and I would have no problem being in the shower with one and being friends with him as I have many gay friends.
23. The IDF's global image WORSENED with this filthy photo
(06.15.12)
certainly for G-d fearing Jews and non-Jews worldwide.
24. Yea, a great way to make friends with everyone....
Jake ,   USA   (06.15.12)
...except your neighbors! Israel is NOT a Western country. Gay pride has no place in the Holy Land.
25. Kol ha kavod!
Trude   (06.15.12)
It is a fantastic photo and I hope it will make it easier for everybody to think in new ways! In the army, in Israel and in the world. Not only about sexual orientation - Somebody says - the wind from a butterfly's wing movs the whole universe. And the soldiers holding hands may start a new way of viewing eachother - inside of Israel and outside. Thank you for a a beautiful photo!
26. 100% Daati IDF in 20-30 years
joe   (06.15.12)
Actually, the photo prooves the theory that in one or two generations the IDF wiill primarily be made up of all Daati and Charedi soldiers. If you don't procreate you can't exist. Don't know if the picture is good or bad but don't complain if certain soldiers don't want to hear women sing.
27. To all those saying they should keep quiet
Me   (06.15.12)
The only reason this picture was posted was Gay Pride month. The IDF doesn't post daily photos of guys holding hands. It has nothing to do with winning wars.
28. To: No. 14
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (06.15.12)
Who cares how Israel's enemies perceive Israeli soldiers? Not I. I know what Israel is capable of doing on the battlefield. If Israel's enemies are deluded into thinking that gay soldiers are in any way less a soldier, so much the better. Imagine their surprise upon discovering that sexual orientation is about as relevant as whether someone is left-handed or right-handed. One's sexual orientation has nothing to do with one's competence and ability. Those who think it does either have serious denial issues with their own sexuality or are incurably stupid. Take your pick.

I'll take a homosexual soldier over a heterosexual pedophile or a thief ANY DAY OF THE WEEK. Are you religious? Good, then you probably know the Bible backwards and forwards. Shall we talk about the relationship between David and Jonathan? Hmm? No, I didn't think you'd want to do that, which is why I asked in the first place. The nature of their relationship is pretty clear. You are the sick one. You are the one who obviously seems to think that one's sexual orientation affects one's humanity, personality or their ability to do their job. Alexander the Great was known to be homosexual. It didn't seem to keep him from being a pretty good soldier. So I think you need to wrap up your insecurity and present it to a psychiatrist. Hopefully, you will get some help. By the way -- in case you are interested -- I am very happily heterosexual. The two best people I know on the face of this earth are a highly successful and decent homosexual couple. They are great neighbors, and wonderful people. There is nothing they won't do for their friends. They adopted a child from a Russian orphanage who was born with a complex cleft palate -- a child that probably no one else would have wanted. They brought her to the United States, my husband, who is a maxillofacial plastic surgeon, repaired the palate, and they are busy in the process of raising a strikingly beautiful, wonderful little girl. Please tell me how that offends G-d.
