What right does the secular elite have ti judge the haredi and insist they conform to the secular lifestyle anymore than the haredi have a right to demand secular conform to their lifestyle? Both sides are guilty and both sides need to respect each other and use a little bit of logic. Accept rules on most things from business practise to dress code are going to be different in haredi areas than they are in downtown Tel Aviv. If your going through a haredi area just show a little respect and dress modestly As long as we are only talking about the odd bus on a line that goes through haredi areas and there are plenty of other busses then allow the odd sex segregated busses on certain those routes. Give people a choice on traveling on a sex segregated bus which haredi like or traveling on a regular bus, as long as there is choice do we really need to shout and scream about sexism? If a haredi takes a regular bus then don't moan about being forced to sit or stand next to a woman no matter what they wear. The problem we have right now is both sides want to take the moral high ground and neither accepting they have no right to judge the other by their own lifestyle and beliefs. Just compromise even if those compromises clash with things you believe in because until we solve this the religious / secular divide will just get worse.

At last a voice of logic. This whole thing with changing the the Tal Law was politicians trying to please the secular masses who thought it was unfair the haredi had a right to chose to serve or not. No real thought has been put into any of this its just been politicians trying to please the masses. We should have first created different kinds of national service for the haredi and making the military just one of the options. The secular population has been putting the heat on the politicians get the haredi into uniform but nobody ever asked the IDF what they want its been what the masses want. Right now the IDF is actually trying to cut down on manpower in favour of technology to save money. They are now having the haredi forced onto them so the politicians can please the crowd and all they can do is smile and say how wonderful it is they are going to be joining. Instead we should have first created a civilian national service alternative to be an option for those who don't want to serve in the military. The seculars might see it as unfair they have a civilian service option but the important thing is to get people to do jobs that need doing not ones that certain sectors of society want them to do out of fairness.
