1. Ultra orthdox its all about the money
Haim ,   TA   (06.18.12)
Naturally they object that could curtail the amount of money that flows in to the rabbinute. They force their so called life style on others, they have a monopoly on marriage and death, never occured to them that people have the right to choose and to disagree. Who do they think they are? If they can be funded by the state then so can conservative or reform, no one group should have a monopoly.
2. Rabbi Amar should resign and be replaced by a woman.
Michael ,   California, USA   (06.18.12)
This should be done for the sake of gender equality which is more important than religious equality. Actually, there should be no governmental position of a Chief rabbi like in states in which religion is separated from state. Netanyahu's clipping of Orthodox rabbis' wings will be his greatest historical legacy. More is needed, much more, Mr. Prime Minister and your Knesset.
3. Rabbis and cottage cheese
Avramele   (06.18.12)
When you grant a self serving entity a monopoly the price you pay is always too high - whether it's religious services or cottage cheese. In this case there is very little useful product to begin with so the cost to the consumer is even higher. Privatize religion without subsidies for rabbis, create secular marriage, divorce and burial alternatives as exists in every other democracy and be done with this nonsense.
4. When will Jews declare peace...
ORA ,   JERUSALEM   (06.18.12)
among themselves? Shouldn t that be our priority?
5. Because their "rabbinical" status is like that of Beinish,
(06.18.12)
Bibi or even the catholic priest. There's hardly anything Jewishly religious about them.
6. I hope that is the end
Yosef ,   Israel, Tel Aviv   (06.18.12)
of an orthodox monopoly. Israel is a democracy and the state should recognize all of the movements of Judaism alike! I wish we had also a non-orthodox rabbinate having same functions as an orthodox one. They cannot enforce their view of Judaism on all of the citizens!
7. Bravo, Rabbi Gilad Kariv
Susya Bar Dror ,   Israel   (06.18.12)
In the rest of the world, reform and conservativ jews are recognised. Reform and conservative jews are only in Israel, the only jewish country, religious outcasts. Both Rabbis, Amar and Metzger, are in the wrong job.
8. Ora: Spitting on Orthodox schoolgirls, throwing feces=peace?
Thinking Jew ,   Israel   (06.18.12)
Your haredi pontifications are warped
9. Hang Together
Mychal ,   TN, USA   (06.18.12)
"Gentlemen, if we do not hang together, we will most assuredly hang separately." With the threat of a nuclear Iran hanging over Israel, is now REALLY the time to be arguing over who is and is not a good Jew? Let's remember that Jerusalem fell because the different factions of Jews couldn't unite in the face of a common enemy. And at a time when Jews are falling away from the faith in droves, should you really be harping on anyone who practice, albeit not to your standards? Be thankful they're doing something. If you take an all-or-nothing approach, you're going to wind up with a lot of nothing.
10. Oh how intoxicating the power that Rabbis hold must feel!
tom ,   tel aviv   (06.18.12)
Compared to regular, mortal politicians, who at all times must at least try to woo their voters with some new lie, these operators have "backing" of the Imaginary Friend himself! The black & dark masses follow every flick of the wrist of the sombrero-clad wizzards
11. I beg to differ.....
dr harry ,   Jerusalem   (06.18.12)
Mr Kariv. Rabbis Omar & Metzger are not the Fraud here. You are exploiting the numerous people with your made up Religion. It amazing the articles that are written in the weeks where Torahs readings are about you corrupt people. Last week, the Spies. This week Korach. Moshe Rabenu did not fall on his face because of being confronted by Korach. He fell on his face because it was an attack on God Himself. We are ALL JEWS. When we all received the Torah 3320+ years ago, we all stood as ONE. Not as Orthodox, Conservative, Reform, Traditional, Reconstructionist, Humanistic. WHATEVER!! Kariv, your numbers mean nothing. Your so called tens and hundreds of thousands of people that indentifies with the ways of Reform, Are tens and hundreds of thousands of people that being misguided by your Fraudulent ways. You are disconnected to Judaism. The Courts should know better. They have no legal right to interfere with Judaism. ONE GOD-ONE TORAH-ONE PEOPLE. Kariv, GET A REAL JOB!!!
12. #6 If not for Orthodox Jews
Chaim   (06.18.12)
the Jews would not have the right to Israel at all. It's ONLY because of the Torah that ONLY Orthodox Jews follow that we have the right to take over the land of Israel from the Arabs. Israel is ONLY democratic if it doesn't interfere with its Jewish status. Hey, since when is Israel a democracy if it's run like communist Russian with the kgb mafia running the sate?
13. # 11: Doctorate in Defamation of Jews?
Susya Bar Dror ,   Israel   (06.18.12)
I think so, you really know how to defame us jews. Keep begging for a healthy mind.
14. # 3, # 6
Mike Carmel ,   Rishon le Zion   (06.18.12)
Democracy? Are you serious? This story proves it.
15. Why should the State fund rabbis?
Dave from Brazil ,   Sao Paulo, Brazil   (06.18.12)
Rabbis should be funded by donations from people, not by the State. The State should focus on things that are in the interest of everyone, such as education, health, and the army.
16. Reform Christianity
Yoni the Jew ,   Jewish homeland   (06.18.12)
Christianity was also a reform of Judaism that eventually became full fledged idol worship. Why can't I make up my own religion and call myself a rabbi and ask for state funding? What is this made up religion called reform Judaism? What is it based on?
17. Why?
Aharon ,   Holon, Israel   (06.18.12)
Why is the state subsidizing any religion at all? Instead of funding reform and conservative we shouldn't be paying for these people to live in the lap of luxury while our elderly and poor go hungry. This goes against Torah itself! Religion has no business being involved in the matters of the state! Otherwise we will eventually end up like Iran. Is this what we have been fighting 2000 years for???
18. #13 Hello!
dr harry ,   Jerusalem   (06.18.12)
What part of FRAUD do you not understand. Do what you want. Live like you want! DO NOT CALL IT JUDAISM!!! Would you go to a Brain Surgeon who got his medical degree from a Cracker Jack Box? They are religious outcasts, because they are people who are destroying the True Torah way of Life, the way Jews are to live and have been doing so for 3300 years. All these other TalkBacks are blatant attempts to ridicule Judaism for their own personal reasons. The basic trend in these types of TalkBacks are to just BASH Bash Bash. Without real substance. According to you, Recognition of something makes it right. No it doesn't. We, have been around longer than these Feel Good people, who are trying hard to penetrate, the One Place, ISRAEL, who wishes to stay unsoiled by this Fraudulent representation of True Judaism. Besides, all these people are just making lots of money on your expense. I am truly surprised that these types of people were never charged for Fraud, or convicted as Scammers. And yet you call me a defamer of Jews!!!!
19. 8 Thinking what?
ORA ,   JERUSALEM   (06.18.12)
When all your thinking failed, try not thinking.
20. # 18: the prime example of a Dr. of defamation
Susya Bar Dror ,   Israel   (06.18.12)
you are defaming jews. I wonder why you do not feel shame. Unless the idols of your sect permit you to do so. Fie!
21. Reform in Israel
Sherlock Holmes ,   London UK   (06.18.12)
Reform Judaism does not have hundreds of thousands of Israeli followers. Reform has always been free to build their temples in Israel, but I doubt that their membership lists run to even the tens of thousands of Halachic Israeli Jews. Under the status quo agreement Halachic Judaism became the established religion of the state. The main push for a change is coming from California and Reform, not from within Israel by Israeli natives.
22. Tibet
Damien ,   Tel Aviv   (06.18.12)
It's looks like to me that the supreme council acted like China with Tibet. China installed a fake Panchen Lama where as the true Lama the Tibetans would not consider a candidate for the eleventh incarnation legitimate unless he were identified according to Tibetan traditional means. So I believe the Supreme council and the government should stay out of religion and leave it the people who hold the most high tradition.
23. #11 and 18, dr. harry
Michael ,   California, USA   (06.18.12)
With your "doctorate," writing commemorative speech for Orthodox Judaism might be a worthy thing to do. Academics will be studying it for quite a while, to explain how and why it failed. Your two comments today might be used by them.
24. Forget our Rabbis; You gotta deal with our Jews
Elad ,   Houston/Israel   (06.19.12)
Pitiful thing, one day a Jew was walking along and found that he/she had a brain. They thought briefly about being frum, then they decided to be Jewish.
25. These bozo Rabbis are all about themselves. their power and
Al   (06.19.12)
their influence. They do a great disservice to our religion. I just wish the hell they would stay away from our religion and poeples children. Bemeleh they screw up their own kids and make them as useless as they are...for that I coulndt care less, but what gets my goat is that they influence other naive people to entrust them with their kids. A warning to responsible parents, keep your children away from these bozos. They will end up destroying your children.
26. Good on, Rabbi Amar! Stay strong!
Keeponkeepinon   (06.19.12)
This is the best news I've heard in a long time. Let's get rid of these fakes already!
27. Why not fund Messianic "Rabbis" also?
Yerach ,   Jerusalem,Israel   (06.19.12)
After all aren't they every bit as as legitimate as Conservative & Reform "Rabbis"? Where does it end? Most Israelis don't want any of the above. The only real Rabbis are Orthodox Rabbis!!!!!!
28. Dear Michael #23,
dr harry ,   jerusalem   (06.19.12)
Living a Torah Life can not be measured in failed or passed, because as long as one strives to reach higher & higher levels of observance, one never fails or passes. There is no question that we all have what to correct. We are all human beings. Cut me down as much as you want. That is not going to change the fact that these people are trying to fradulantly claim, there way is Judaism too. WRONG. That is not my opinion, That is FACT. Only God will judge you, not me. Why are you trying so hard to give legitimacy to a Scam.
29. Separate Religion from State
nadav ,   tlv   (06.19.12)
there is NO reason why tax payer money should fund Any religious group.period. If you want a rabbi, synagogue, mikveh etc, then organize your community and pay for it yourself! Jews have been doing this since ancient times quite effectively, so there is no reason why in can't be done here, especially when tax money is scarce and needed to support far more important areas, such as defense, health, education, and infrastructure!
30. 25 Al There are many Rabbis...
ORA ,   JERUSALEM   (06.19.12)
real zadikim. It is beneath your level to stereotype.
