1. Thinking out of the box
Sarah B   (06.19.12)
If we don't bomb Gaza then the new Egypt will not get upset and tear up the peace treaty. What we need to do is reset Israel's relationship with Gaza. We can start this by lifting the siege on crayons, school text books and chocolate. The part time Israelis and their religious whackjobs, and those who don't even live in Israel proper might get upset. But prehaps the vast majority of Israelis need to make themselves heard. We need to set Israel on a new path, or be destroyed. Those who will be most vocal against this, are those with that second passport who will run at the first opportunity. I do not have that option, I survive only if Israel survives

5. Typical Israeli pogas analysis
Hassan   (06.19.12)
The writer made the following claim "In the presidential elections, Sinai’s northern district voted for Islamist candidate Morsi. The southern, tourism-oriented district voted for the secularist Shafiq. This is not only a socioeconomic issue pitting a conservative, religious region against a region that makes a living from tourism." >>>>>> Going back to the numbers, infact in the southern part of of Sina was 250 vote difreence to shafeeq, this is hardly can be called, southern part voted for Shafeeq. In the new Egypt, things can be controlled better than Mubark. Mubarak used attacks to tell the West and Israel its either me or terrorism. However, with more control and Hamas seeking to strengthen Musri position internationally, there is more control, Also, there is more price for Israeli to pay should it decides to attack and kill as it wishes
6. #3 the true power
israel israeli ,   tel aviv   (06.19.12)
The true power is desperation. The army can rule to a tipping point where too many millions of young men realize that they have no food, no employment, no future and no hope. When shuhada is the only way for these men to get a purpose in their life, the army is helpless. That is the Brotherhood's secret and that is Iran's plan. If Obama and Mubarak, each in his own time, had been smarter this could have been avoided.
7. Jews may survive but Israel may not
Tayfun_Turkey ,   Istanbul   (06.19.12)
However Muslim brothers of Egypt, Satanist organization founded by British Spy, is not Muslim at all. They will just pave the way for next strong Islamic take over in Egypt. Their double-face, lies and all actions will be under close watch and they will be inevitably unmasked, soon Real Islamic opposition start to gain power. Arab Spring is Israeli winter, ... last one.

Tayfun - your post is funnier than threatening. 1) Edit your English posts and 2) Give up bizarre global conspiracy theories. Then maybe someone will listen to your wisdom.

Israel doesn’t need a treaty with Egypt read the Bible and stop using human understanding.
10. You're kidding right?
Levi ,   Karmiel   (06.19.12)
You need to pay more attention to your Turkey. Egypt making war against Israel would have one result. Egypt losing again. Except we will not return the Sinai this time.
11. We'd have no problem had we kept Sinai.
Chaim ,   Israel   (06.19.12)
The only reason events in Egypt are a concern to Israel is because we ceded Sinai. Like all Israel's major problems, our problems with Egypt stem from an Israeli retreat. If Israel still had Sinai, it's immense strategic and military advantage would make war with Egypt all but unthinkable. And easily winnable if it occurred. Israel's big problems will end when we end the lunacy of retreat.
12. And still the godless Muslims' (heathens) rage!
Jake Stone ,   USA   (06.19.12)
Israel will be just fine! God'll take care of Israel's enemies! God bless, Israel; praying for the peace of Jerusalem!
13. It ain't neccessarily so...
Adam Neira ,   Paris, France   (06.19.12)
The election of Morsi as President and the accompanying machinations of the Egyptian Military and the Constitutional Court does not necessarily mean that the vast majority of Egyptians will be hostile to the State of Israel and Jews worldwide. It depends how the dynamics are managed. Of course wearing rose coloured glasses is dangerous, and there are very alarming anti-Jewish/Israeli sentiments in the country, but I believe the vast majority of Egyptians do not want war with Israel or any other nation. This younger generation is not as easy to manipulate as those of the Nasser era. The Egyptian Actor of "The Kite Runner" fame, 31 y.o. Khalid Abdalla spoke eloquently from Tahrir Square in Feb. 2011 on the BBC World Service. A common chant of the children in Tahrir Square then was "Hold your head up high. We are Egyptians". An upcoming democratic election will be the first time in 5,000 years the Land of the Pharaohs will witness a free election of a government. So yes these are momentous times. The Israelis must be careful. A conditioned knee-jerk response with bluster mixed with an almost obligatory need to control all relationships around them will prove counterproductive.
14. Writing is on the wall
M Carr ,   Baltimore, USA   (06.19.12)
I was always perplexed when Israeli politicians repeatedly proposed various “land for peace” schemes with their Muslim neighbors. Although I understand the desire to live in peace, I fail to see the wisdom of ignoring history and disregarding the constant threats emanating from the Muslim world. In my opinion Israel should never have given up the Sinai and if forced to retake it, they should never give it up again. The lesson for Israel is that the Muslim world is totally incapable of co-existing with Israel. To Islam the existence of the State of Israel is like a bone caught in the throat that cannot be dislodged. The Muslim world will continue to complain loudly and flail about violently but the bone will only become lodged more firmly. Eventually, the body will tire and eventually expire. Again, the writing is on the wall…

Philos ,   Herzliya   (06.19.12)
We'd also be an impoverished third-world country without a high tech sector with 50 - 60% of the GDP dedicated to defense costs but, yeah, sure, whatever you say man . do you even know how expensive keeping several divisions on the sinai was for this country? do you have any idea what precipitated the economic crisis of the 80s and how it was withdrawal from the sinai, scaling down the presence on the southern frontier and the american economic aid that created the prosperity we enjoy today? . of course you don't......
16. #7 Tayfun_Turkey
Son of Cyrus   (06.19.12)
Same can be said of Turkey! Once true justice prevails I do not believe Turkey will be a viable entity as much of the land belongs to other minorities such as Kurds, Armenians etc... The Turkeys People took over their lands and gave it their own name. However, Israel is the true homeland of the Jewish People and they are strong enough to defend it for ever and a day.
17. Retake Sinai
mike Caton ,   usa   (06.19.12)
The IDF must now make contingency plans to retake all or part of the Sinai as a buffer zone against a new radical Islamic state called Egypt. It will be like having Iran on its southern border.
18. Only RETURN of Sinai (ASAP) can create BALANCE with Egypt.

20. #15. Sinai was an enormous asset to Israel in every respect.
Chaim ,   Israel   (06.19.12)
#15 Philos. Can you imagine how much stronger and richer Israel would be if we kept Sinai? The strategic and military value of the Sinai is priceless. Any military expert can tell you that. On top of that, the Sinai would also give Israel access to enormous oil reserves and tourist wealth. On top of even that, keeping Sinai would permanently alter the strategic balance in Israel's favor. Our enemies in Iran, and elsewhere, could not think of us as a "one bomb state", if we kept Sinai. American aid did not create Israeli prosperity. That is a ridiculous canard pulled out of thin air. But sure, Philos, since you can't mount a rational debate, why not use puerile insults?
21. Stop being so woolly and high
Alexander ,   Tel Aviv, Israel   (06.19.12)
Is it really so difficult to figure Arabs and Moslems out? What is this? A research paper on rocket science or Freudian psychology or the teachings of Zen Buddhism or Einstein's theory of relativity? The Arabs and the Moslems are the most primitive, backward, violent, racist, underdeveloped, intolerant, undemocratic and hateful part of the world. Think of them as angry hooligans or street thugs. They understand the language of the fist - nothing else. Israel should bomb Egypt into oblivion, flatten the country to the ground (where more than 90% of the Egyptians think hating and killing Jews is "ok") and destroy 80 million Egyptians - and reconquer and annex Sinai -with no Moslems or Arabs allowed to stay. And then repeat the procedure with the Arab Islamofascists in Gaza, expel the Arabs - to the sea, to Libya or to mainland Egypt - I don't care - just kick them out, and annex Gaza. End of story. And then Jews or Israelis can get on arguing and quarrelling as usual and argue about kosher, shabbat and shabbat buses - BUT, Israel will be safe. I just get headache of listening to all this "intellectual" nonsense, hairsplittings and tiresome verbosity in Israeli newspapers and among state authorities. Destroy the anti-Semitic bastards of Gaza and Egypt - just get it done and stop talking.
22. Tayfun-turkey (are you dreaming)
Adar ,   London   (06.19.12)
The Arab spring will and has already turned into turkey winter!! Wake up!!! Kurds are much more powerfull and are in a good position to wipe you out very soon. Waite and see!
23. Sinai and the Suez Canal 2020 timeframe
Mike ,   Negev   (06.19.12)
who ever said that Sina belongs to egypt? A whole peninsula was given to thr newsly born Egyptian kingdom by Britain. They violated their authority and mandate. Its insane that a lunatic who comes to power in that backward country should have control over the Suez canal from both banks (egypt and sinai). The best way to ensure the stability of Suez and free international passage is two have two powers control he canal and those two powers must not be from one culture-religion-ethnicity. Best way to maintain stability is to have Israel control the Sinai and thus counter the Muslim Brotherhood regime from een thinking about closing the strait and canal. In the future war with Egypt (it will happen when president Mosri responds militarily to an Israeli attack on Gaza), Israel will (hopefully) devastate the F-16 equipped egyptian army and conquer Sinai. We could then declare the peninsula part of State of Israel or some other arrangement. This time we will not give up the land conquered justly for some ink on paper.
24. No. #21 Genocide is not the answer
Laurie ,   Beit Shemesh, Israel   (06.19.12)
I agree with the 2 paragraphs; however "bombing Egypt into oblivion" is not the answer! Egypt has 2 sources of income, Tourism and Foreign aid. With the Muslim Brotherhood in power, they will lose both. If the Egyptians want to survive each other, it makes sense NOT to go to war with Israel. Most Importantly, Jews/Israelis are not Nazis! We value human life even if we have to "split hairs" now and then.

any egyptiant one can be in the army but any one in the army is agyptiant .. this is the power in egypt - the love of their country

you are right and israelis LOVE THEIR COUNTRY TOO.
27. #23 Amen. Sadat proudly admitted Israel got screwed.
Chaim ,   Israel   (06.20.12)
#23 Mike. You are right on target. Israel must forever end the lunatic habit of trading our priceless land for worthless pieces of paper. Israel's wars are all defensive. Whatever land we win must remain ours forever. Late Egyptian President Anwar Sadat proudly admitted Israel got screwed. "I got the whole SInai", Sadat boasted. "(former Israeli P.M.) Begin got a piece of paper".
28. Don't panic, no odds for islamists.
Istvan ,   BUDAPEST HUNGARY   (06.20.12)
Military rulers will not allow islamists to take power. They know, Egypt can not exist without international aids, foodstuffs, loans and tourism. The alternative is hunger and destruction. It isalso clear for the majority of egyptian population.
29. Obama stop Egyptian military aid until Egypt stops terror
zionist forever   (06.20.12)
The peace treaty is on shaky grounds already and pretty soon its probably going to be killed entirely. All presidential candidates even the ones considered most liberal were campaigning promising to tear up or amend the peace treaty. Egypt will want to send troops into Sinai and keep them there for good which Israel will have a hard time agreeing to so its going to place more troops closer to the border. Egypt will stop making any serious efforts to stop the smuggling into Gaza especially considering Mubarak was considered a traitor and zionist puppet by many for trying to stop the weapons going to the heroic Hamas. Hamas is a branch of the Muslim Brotherhood and must not be seen as betraying the revolutionaries and thats going to result in alot of shouting and screaming to the Americans. The only one possible winner will be the Merkava which the government has just ended production of to save money. Its time for Obama to show some balls and stand up to Egypt and say until the new government can be considered trustworthy all arms shipments to Egypt will be suspended and unless they do something to stop the terror coming from Sinai then the American money they need invested in the country will also be frozen. If this treaty has even a hope of surviving we need the former Mubarak man at the helm because he understands how the system works and isn't a Muslim idealist.

zionist forever   (06.20.12)
This is why America has to suspend all arms shipments to Egypt and tell the Muslim Brotherhood government if they don't play by the rules then American money will end as well. Its going to take an American president will real courage to do it but if the only way to try and bring some order. The Arab Spring has brought very few winners. Egypt is a mess and the Muslim Brotherhood will bring ideology but they won't be able to sort out the economy and will probably end up doing more damage by borrowing heavily. Assad has not just killed around 13,000+ so far but he is bankrupting the country even going as far as selling gold from the national reserve cheap. When Syria's arab spring ends it will be a bankrupt country in which living standards will drop significantly. Russia is also probably going to lose its naval base in Tartus for supporting Assad so another victim of the arab spring. In Jordan King Abdullah is fighting as hard as he can politically to save his throne from the palestinian majority. Oil prices have gone up as a result o the instability created by the arab spring. You guys better watch out because if Israelis allies, the Kurds decide they want their own arab spring they are going to make more trouble for Turkey than ever before. Turkey may also find itself at war with Greece over the natural gas off the coast of Cyprus which Erdogan is trying to steal. No real benefits have come from the arab spring unless you consider the rise to power of the Muslim Brotherhood.
